    Exploring Service Recovery and Justice Theory in the Libyan Airline Industry

    The services industry is the fastest growing sector of the global economy, and central to its success. This research is concerned with observations of service recovery and its impact on customer satisfaction, and focuses on recovery after service failure, including factors such as compensation, speed, and apology, and their effect on customer perceptions of justice, including distributive, procedural and interactional justice. This exploratory and explanatory study seeks to provide information and understanding of the impact of service recovery and customer satisfaction on each other, by investigating the effect of service failure and recovery on customer perceptions of justice in two Libyan airlines. The theoretical framework of the study is derived from the literature, and is based on a set of interlinking relationships between elements of service recovery (apology, speed and compensation), their effect on customer perceptions of justice (interactional, distributive and procedural) and their logical outcome, which is customer satisfaction. Central to the framework is the conceptualisation of a model of service failure, perceptions of justice, and service recovery as a single continuous process which has as its outcome a level of customer satisfaction. The study starts from the theoretical view point that justice is a necessary component of customer satisfaction, and uses a questionnaire to collect data relevant to the three issues (service recovery, justice and customer satisfaction), which appear in the theoretical model. A total of 584 questionnaires were distributed to the customers of two Libyan airlines at Tripoli‟s international airport, collecting data customer perceptions of service failure recovery efforts. The statistical package SPSS was employed to analyse the raw data and the findings represent a set of relationships established between elements of service recovery and perceptions of justice. The study represents a contribution to knowledge about the relationships between service recovery and justice, using data collected in a developing country and in an industry of vital importance to national development yet opens to international competition. Theoretical and methodological contributions in the form of the study‟s model and questionnaire establish a basis for further research into this area in other developing countries and other industries

    The Higgs Potential in the Type II Seesaw Model

    We perform in the type II seesaw setting, a detailed study of the dynamical features of the corresponding general renormalizable doublet/triplet Higgs potential that depends on five dimensionless couplings and two mass parameters after spontaneous symmetry breaking, and highlight the implications for the Higgs phenomenology. In particular, we determine i) the complete set of tree-level unitarity constraints on the couplings of the potential and ii) the exact tree-level {\sl all directions} boundedness from below constraints on these couplings. When combined, these constraints delineate precisely the theoretically allowed parameter space domain within our perturbative approximation. Among the seven physical Higgs states of this model, the mass of the lighter (heavier) CP-even state h0 (H0) will always satisfy a theoretical upper (lower) bound that is reached for a critical value mu_c of mu (the mass parameter controlling triple couplings among the doublet/triplet Higgses). Saturating the unitarity bounds we find m_h0 < {\cal O}(0.7 - 1 TeV), while the upper bound for the remaining Higgses lies in the several tens of TeV. However, the actual masses can be much lighter. We identify two regimes corresponding to mu > mu_c and mu < mu_c. In the first regime the Higgs sector is typically very heavy and only h0 that becomes SM-like could be accessible to the LHC. In contrast, in the second regime, somewhat overlooked in the literature, most of the Higgs sector is light. In particular the heaviest state H0 becomes SM-like, the lighter states being the CP-odd Higgs, the (doubly) charged Higgses and a decoupled h0, possibly leading to a distinctive phenomenology at the colliders.Comment: 55 pages, 9 figures, no major changes, references added, a comment added to sec 3.1, typos correcte

    Long-Term Effectiveness of Balloon Catheter Sinuplasty in Pediatric Chronic Maxillary Sinusitis

    The objective of our study was to assess the long-term effectiveness of balloon catheter sinuplasty in the treatment of pediatric chronic maxillary sinusitis following failed first-line medical and surgical management with adenoidectomy. Pediatric patients younger than 12 years were reviewed for having failed previous adenoidectomy and undergone a balloon catheter sinuplasty between August 2006 and March 2011 for chronic rhinosinusitis. Demographic data and clinical characteristics were recorded in patients who met inclusion criteria. Outcomes were assessed by need for functional endoscopic sinus surgery and persistence of chronic infection within at least 5 years of follow-up. Failure was defined by any child who was rediagnosed with chronic sinus disease after balloon catheter sinuplasty or who required endoscopic sinus surgery within 5 years. Sixty-two children were reviewed, with 38 patients meeting inclusion criteria (prior adenoidectomy, a preoperative Lund-Mackay score of ≥5, and balloon catheter sinuplasty). The mean age (standard deviation) was 6.76 (2.27) years with an age range of 2 to 11 years. Eight children (21.1%, P \u3c .01) continued to have chronic sinus complaints following balloon procedure, with 5 (13.1%) individuals requiring eventual endoscopic surgery within 5 years. Age, asthma, allergy, and gender did not have any statistically significant impact on outcome. Balloon catheter sinuplasty is an effective long-term alternative for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis in pediatric patients, hoping to avoid further infections and eventual endoscopic surgery

    Lead acetate toxicity on glucose level and liver enzymes ameliorated by camel’s milk in wistar albino rat

    Background: The present work was conducted to investigate the effects of lead acetate intoxication on glucose and liver functions in albino rats, and the possible effectiveness of using camel milk to protect against lead induced toxicity.Methods: Eighteen male albino rats were divided into three groups of six, the first was a control group, the second received orally lead acetate in water as      (2 ml saline containing 5 mg/kg body weight of lead acetate) and the third received the same lead acetate dose and supplemented with 2 ml of camel milk, the experiment lasted for three weeks.Results: The results indicated that exposure of animals to lead acetate caused a significant increase (p<0.05) in the activities of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and decrease (p<0.05) in the alanine aminotransferase (ALT) compared with control group. Treatment with camel milk seemed to offer a marked improvement of the blood glucose parameter and the liver enzymes compared with lead acetate group. The parameters were reversed towards the normal values significantly.Conclusions: The ability of camel milk to reduce lead toxicity may relate to its antioxidant actions or enhancing, the metal chelating action. In conclusion, Supplementation of daily diets with camel milk may be recommended to improve the body in case of lead contamination

    Pengaruh Konsentrasi Chemical Oxygen Demand (Cod) Dan Ragi Terhadap Kinerja Granular Activated Carbon Dual Chamber Microbial Fuel Cells (Gac-dcmfcs)

    Microbial fuel cell jika digunakan dalam pengolahan limbah, mampu menghasilkan energi yang bersih sebagai bagian dari pengolahan limbah yang efektif. Namun, beberapa hal yang sangat mempengaruhi kinerja MFC seperti komunitas mikroorganisme dan substrat belum ditemukan titik optimumnya. Penelitian ini menjawab tantangan tersebut dengan mengembangkan sebuah sistem MFC dengan menggunakan variasi konsentrasi COD dan ragi dalam mempengaruhi kinerja MFC. Limbah artifisial digunakan sebagai substrat MFCs karena diinginkan konsentrasi yang sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian. Media filter Granular activated carbon digunakan sebagai media perlekatan bakteri dalam pembentukan biofilm sehingga meningkatkan efisiensi penyisihan kontaminan. Variasi konsentrasi COD yang digunakan adalah 400, 800 dan 1200 mg/l dan konsentrasi ragi 1,5; 3 dan 4,5 g/l yang dioperasikan dalam kondisi batch selama proses seeding dan aklimatisasi dan kontinyu setelah proses aklimatisasi. Penyisihan COD tertinggi dihasilkan oleh reaktor 1200 mg/l dengan penambahan ragi 4,5 g/l yaitu sebesar 5624,6 mg/l atau sebesar 98,2%. Produksi listrik tertinggi dihasilkan pada konsentrasi 800 mg/l dan ragi 3 g/l dengan nilai 281,01 mW/m2. Dari perbandingan semua konsentrasi ragi dan COD, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pada range COD 800 – 1200 mg/l dan ragi 3 – 4,5 g/l microbial fuel cells menghasilkan penurunan COD dan produksi listrik yang optimum. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa metabolisme dan aktivitas mikroorganisme dalam biofilm sangat mempengaruhi kondisi operasional reaktor GACMFC

    Pre- and Post-Fire Strength Assessment of Ferrocement beams

    The results of an experimental investigation on the behavior of ferrocement beams after exposed to fire are presented in this paper. Different types of steel meshes are used compared with conventional reinforcement. The experimental program comprised casting and testing of eighteen beams having the dimensions of 100mm×100mm×1000mm. Three beams were reinforced as a conventional reinforcement. Each control beam was reinforced with two steel bars of diameter 8 mm in tension, two steel bar of diameter 6mm in compression and stirrups of 6 mm diameter placed at 200 mm intervals. The ferrocement beams were reinforced with steel meshes without any stirrups. Two types of steel meshes were used to reinforce the ferrocement laminate. These types are: square welded wire fabric, and expanded wire mesh. Single layer, double layers and three layers of square welded wire mesh were employed. Single layer and double layers of expanded wire mesh were employed. The experimental program was classified into three groups. First group was tested without exposure to fire, the second group was tested after exposure to fire for six hours and the last group was tested after exposure to fire under loading. All specimens were tested under 4-points flexural loadings. The performance of the test beams in terms of strength, stiffness, cracking behavior and energy absorption was investigated. The results showed that high serviceability and ultimate loads, crack resistance control, and better deformation characteristics could be achieved by using the proposed ferrocement forms

    Tracheocutaneous Sinus following Tracheocutaneous Fistula Repair: Management Strategies in a Pediatric Patient

    Objective. To present a rare case of a pediatric tracheocutaneous sinus years after repair of a tracheocutaneous fistula and to review management strategies. Background. A tracheocutaneous fistula is a common sequela of pediatric tracheostomy and can occur in as many as one in three pediatric patients. There is debate in the literature regarding optimal surgical management. Case Presentation. An 8-year-old girl presented to the emergency department with swelling and erythema over the anterior neck. Clinical exam and diagnostic imaging revealed an underlying tracheocutaneous sinus. Discussion. Complications following pediatric tracheostomy are common and range in complexity from stomal granulation to tracheocutaneous fistula. There is some debate regarding the optimal surgical management of children with tracheocutaneous fistula following tracheostomy. This report discusses the management of a pediatric child with an unusual tracheocutaneous sinus and reviews the various surgical techniques which have been described for definitive repair

    Maternal and neonatal complications of fetal macrosomia: cohort study

    Objective: To estimate risks of maternal and neonatal complications in pregnancies with macrosomia. Method: This was a retrospective cohort study undertaken at a large maternity unit in United Kingdom between January 2009-December 2016. We compared the incidence of complications in pregnancies with macrosomia, defined by birthweight (BW)>4,000 g and severe macrosomia with BW>4,500 g, to those in pregnancies with normal BW 2,500-4,000 g. Regression analysis was undertaken to determine odds ratios (OR) [95% confidence interval (CI)] for pregnancy complications in macrosomic compared to normal BW group. Results: The study population of 35,548 pregnancies included 4,522 (12.7%) with macrosomia, 643 (1.8%) with severe macrosomia and 31,026 (87.3%) with normal BW. In macrosomia group, adjusted OR was 3.07 (95%CI:1.64,2.01) for cesarean section for failure to progress, 2.40 (95%CI:1.95,2.96) for post-partum haemorrhage, 2.29 (95%CI:1.86,2.82) for sphincter injury, 10.37 (95%CI:8.57,12.55) for shoulder dystocia, 28.48 (95%CI:8.94,90.67) for brachial plexus injury, 32.33 (95%CI:3.76,278.15) for birth fractures and 4.40 (95%CI:2.20,8.82) for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. The respective values for severe macrosomia were 4.32 (95%CI:3.05,6.13), 2.93 (95%CI:1.93,4.44), 3.12 (95%CI:1.92,5.08), 28.74 (95%CI:20.75,39.79), 73.92 (95%CI:15.05,363.16), 87.17 (95%CI:7.72,984.96) and 13.77 (95%CI: 5.16,36.75). Conclusion: Macrosomia is associated with serious adverse perinatal outcomes. This study provides accurate estimates of risks to aid in pregnancy management
