Lasing with Topological Weyl Semimetal
Lasing behavior of optically active planar topological Weyl semimetal (TWS)
is investigated in view of the Kerr and Faraday rotations. Robust topological
character of TWS is revealed by the presence of Weyl nodes and relevant surface
conductivities. We focus our attention on the surfaces where no Fermi arcs are
formed, and thus Maxwell equations contain topological terms. We explicitly
demonstrate that two distinct lasing modes arise because of the presence of
effective refractive indices which lead to the birefringence phenomena.
Transfer matrix is constructed in such a way that reflection and transmission
amplitudes involve matrix-valued components describing the bimodal
character of the TWS laser. We provide associated parameters of the topological
laser system yielding the optimal impacts. We reveal that gain values
corresponding to the lasing threshold display a quantized behavior, which
occurs due to topological character of the system. Our proposal is supported by
the corresponding graphical demonstrations. Our observations and predictions
suggest a concrete way of forming TWS laser and coherent perfect absorber; and
are awaited to be confirmed by an experimental realization based on our
computations.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, 3 table
The Examination of the laboratory anxiety, state and trait anxiety of university students in high voltage laboratory
With this study were aimed the investigation of the state and trait anxiety levels of Electric-Electronic Engineering students on High Voltage Laboratory anxiety. This research is designed as relational scanning model. The samples of the study comprised 113 students from Electric-Electronic Engineering in Engineering Faculty. In the study; “High Voltage Laboratory Anxiety Scale” with three factors which was developed by Güneş and Özsoy-Güneş (2015) and “The State and Trait Anxiety Scale” was developed by Spielberger and his colleagues (1970), adapted to Turkish by Öner and Le Compte (1985) are used as tool of data collection. In order to analyze the data, SPSS 20.00, Pearson correlation coefficient techniques and regression analysis techniques are used. At the end of the study, between all scales has a positive relation. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the trait anxiety and laboratory anxiety of students has been found to be effective on the state anxiety of students
Hybrid Metaheuristics for the Clustered Vehicle Routing Problem
The Clustered Vehicle Routing Problem (CluVRP) is a variant of the
Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem in which customers are grouped into
clusters. Each cluster has to be visited once, and a vehicle entering a cluster
cannot leave it until all customers have been visited. This article presents
two alternative hybrid metaheuristic algorithms for the CluVRP. The first
algorithm is based on an Iterated Local Search algorithm, in which only
feasible solutions are explored and problem-specific local search moves are
utilized. The second algorithm is a Hybrid Genetic Search, for which the
shortest Hamiltonian path between each pair of vertices within each cluster
should be precomputed. Using this information, a sequence of clusters can be
used as a solution representation and large neighborhoods can be efficiently
explored by means of bi-directional dynamic programming, sequence
concatenations, by using appropriate data structures. Extensive computational
experiments are performed on benchmark instances from the literature, as well
as new large scale ones. Recommendations on promising algorithm choices are
provided relatively to average cluster size.Comment: Working Paper, MIT -- 22 page
Surgical treatment of giant cardiac aneurysm with pseudoaneurysm in a colon carcinoma patient
Left ventricular pseudoaneurysm is a rare and lethal condition associated with a high risk of rapid enlargement and rupture. It develops after transmural myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac surgery, trauma, or infection. When a left ventricular pseudoaneurysm is detected, surgical repair is recommended due to the high possibility of rupture. In this report, we present surgical treatment of a giant cardiac pseudoaneurysm that occurred after MI in a colon carcinoma patient
Treatment of dye-producing chemical industry wastewater by persulfate advanced oxidation
A dye-producing chemical industry wastewater in Çorlu (Tekirdağ) is treated by the coagulation-flocculation process of the wastewater. However, the wastewater discharged after coagulation-flocculation still has a very high COD (4402 mg L-1) with very high proportion of dissolved COD (4316 mg L-1). Therefore, the aim of this study is to achieve higher COD and color removal in wastewater using Fe2+/S2O8 or UV/S2O8 oxidation process after coagulation-flocculation. The processes in the oxidation of this industrial wastewater using Fe2+/S2O8 and UV/S2O8 were examined and the effect of COD/Fe2+/S2O8 ratio (in Fe2+/S2O8) or COD/S2O8 ratio (in UV/S2O8), pH and oxidation time were evaluated in the study. While high organic matter and color removal was observed in acidic conditions for both processes, optimum pH were 3 and 6 in Fe2+/S2O8 and UV/S2O8 oxidation processes, respectively. In Fe2+/S2O8 oxidation, 61.1% of COD removal and above 97% of color (UV436, UV525 and UV620) removal was obtained at 1/8/8 of COD/Fe2+/S2O8 ratio and pH 3 after 1 h oxidation. In UV/S2O8 oxidation (COD/S2O8 ratio 1/8, pH 6), 54.4% of COD and 98% of color (UV436, UV525 and UV620) removals were achieved after 4 h oxidation. As a result, both Fe2+/S2O8 and UV/S2O8 oxidation processes were applied to ensure discharge standards for color removal from this chemical industry wastewater are effective methods as they provide over 97% color removal. Moreover, COD removal efficiency was approximately 55-60% in both methods

Medical libraries play important roles in classifying, storing and providing access to medical information. Medical libraries are in steady development ever since 1850’s. This study reviews the formation of associations among modern medical libraries, and also refers to the medical and health science library associations in Turkey. In that connection, a mention was also made to the work of the ÜNAK Medical and Health Sciences Working Group
