Non-magnetic semiconductor spin transistor
We propose a spin transistor using only non-magnetic materials that exploits
the characteristics of bulk inversion asymmetry (BIA) in (110) symmetric
quantum wells. We show that extremely large spin splittings due to BIA are
possible in (110) InAs/GaSb/AlSb heterostructures, which together with the
enhanced spin decay times in (110) quantum wells demonstrates the potential for
exploitation of BIA effects in semiconductor spintronics devices. Spin
injection and detection is achieved using spin-dependent resonant interband
tunneling and spin transistor action is realized through control of the
electron spin lifetime in an InAs lateral transport channel using an applied
electric field (Rashba effect). This device may also be used as a spin valve,
or a magnetic field sensor. The electronic structure and spin relaxation times
for the spin transistor proposed here are calculated using a nonperturbative
14-band k.p nanostructure model.Comment: Accepted for publication in Applied Physics Letter
YOUNG ADOLESCENT EFL LEARNERS’ PERSPECTIVES ON CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Critical Thinking Skills (CTs) are among the 21st century learning skills, and schools are expected to equip the students with these skills. Turkey has been restructuring the educational system in order to improve the quality of education which enables students to acquire such learning skills as critical and creative thinking, problem solving, and collaboration. The present study based on the perspectives of Young Adolescent EFF learners presents findings on the students’ awareness of CTs, and whether or not they apply them to a given task, and if there is any conflict between knowledge and application of CTs. The findings showed that the students, despite their quiet well awareness, they did not effectively apply CTs. The problems they encountered were assumed to be resulted from lacking in metacognitive knowledge
Microwave-assisted synthesis, characterizations, antimicrobial activities, and DFT studies on some pyridine derived Schiff base
This study reports a joint experimental, theoretical and microbiological investigation on the (E)-N,N-dimethyl-4-((pyridine-2-ylmethylene)amino)aniline (5), (E)-N,N-dimethyl-4-((pyridine-4-ylmethylene)amino)aniline (6) and (E)-N,N-dimethyl-4-((pyridine-3-ylmethylene)amino)aniline (7). These compounds were synthesized with microwave method and their structures characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and elemental analysis tecniques. In the theoretical studies, torsional barriers analysis, ground state structure, Fourier Transform Infrared spectra (FT-IR), and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectra (NMR) of 5, 6, and, 7 were calculated by Density Functional Theory (DFT) computations. The conformers obtained from the torsional barrier scanning were optimized by B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level. The harmonic vibrational frequencies, potential energy distribution (PED), infrared intensities, and NMR chemical shifts of the most stable conformers were determined using the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p). Theoretically, predicted spectral data were compared with experimental results. Antimicrobial studies of the synthesized compounds were performed against various microbial strains. Antimicrobial activities of 5, 6, and, 7 were tested against selected bacteria and yeast through minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and diffusion method. Compound 7 was found to be the most active against bacteria and yeast, while compound 5 was found to be moderately active. Compounds 6 (against S. aureus and C. albicans) and, 7 were found to have a very high minimum inhibitory concentration, ranging between 1.95 and 7.81 g/mL (against P. aeruginosa and E. coli). Compounds (6 and 7) showed zone of inhibition values in the range of 10–20 mm against other bacteria except L. monocytogenes and S. thyphimurium. © 2022 Elsevier B.V
Opinions of inspectors about elemantary mathematics curriculum
There are many studies available on the mathematics curriculum commenced to be implemented in schools in
2005-2006 school year. Unlike the other studies, this study has been carried out to analyze the curriculum in
terms of different dimensions of the curriculum through elementary school inspectors’ opinions, who
supervise mathematics curriculum implementation, on mathematics curriculum. The study is a descriptive
research carried out in survey model using questionnaire technique applied to 107 inspectors participating inservice
training activities in Erzurum province in 2010. Findings indicate that inspectors agree at
partial/middle level in items generally stated related with mathematics curriculum; and they think that goals
haven’t been realized at a sufficient level during implementation while they are emphasizing that general goals
of the elementary curriculum are very important, that students experience the least difficulty in “numbers”
and the most difficulty in “measurement”, that there are problems in implementation of the curriculum
during instruction and that teachers generally depend on narrative method, question-answer technique and
classic tests in their lessons. Also, findings indicate that in view of the inspectors, teachers need in-service
training on preparing activities in mathematics curriculum, relating mathematics to daily life, individual and
overall teaching methods and techniques, measurement and evaluation, problem posing and solving
Examination Of Mobbing Behaviors Experıenced By The Personnel Working At Youth Services And Provincial Directorates Of Sports,
The purpose of this research is to examine mobbing behaviors experienced by the personnel working at
Youth Services and Provincial Directorates of Sports according to their sex, age, marital status, occupational
seniority and graduated school.
The research is such made by using general scanning model. The personnel working at the district and
provincial offices of Youth Services and General Directorate of Sports constitute the population of the research and
325 personnel working at Youth Services and Provincial Directorates of Sports selected randomly from the
population in 25 provinces constitute the sample of the research. The data regarding mobbing actions experienced
by the personnel was collected by using “Negative Acts Questionnaire” (NAQ). “Negative Acts Questionnaire”
(NAQ) was developed by Einarsen and Raknes (1) and adapted to Turkish by Cemaloglu (2). Cronbach Alpha
reliability coefficient of the subjected scale was re-calculated and determined to be 0,89. During the analysis of
data frequency (f), percentage distribution (%), arithmetic average (x), -t and F tests were used and data were
analyzed by means of SPSS 15,00 packaged software. Significance level was accepted as 0.5 in order to
determine whether a difference exists between the variants applied in the questionnaire.
As a result of our research it was determined that 44% of the personnel working in GHSİM (Youth Services
and General Directorate of Sports) suffered mobbing behaviors. When the questionnaire results are analyzed it is
seen that women exposed more mobbing behaviors comparing to men, those between 21-30 age group exposed
more mobbing behaviors comparing to other age groups, those married exposed more mobbing behaviors
comparing to single and divorced, those having 1-10 years of seniority exposed more mobbing behaviors
comparing to those having other seniorities, those having bachelor’s degree and associate degree exposed to
more mobbing behaviors comparing to other graduates.
It was determined that there is a significant difference between mobbing experiencing levels according to
sex, age, occupational seniority and graduated school of the GHSİM personnel and no significant difference
according to marital status variant
Sono state effettuate 127 (65,46%) TPL tipo I, 45 (23,20%) tipo II e 22 (11,34%) tipo III.

Spin relaxation in (110) and (001) InAs/GaSb superlattices
We report an enhancement of the electron spin relaxation time (T1) in a (110)
InAs/GaSb superlattice by more than an order of magnitude (25 times) relative
to the corresponding (001) structure. The spin dynamics were measured using
polarization sensitive pump probe techniques and a mid-infrared, subpicosecond
PPLN OPO. Longer T1 times in (110) superlattices are attributed to the
suppression of the native interface asymmetry and bulk inversion asymmetry
contributions to the precessional D'yakonov Perel spin relaxation process.
Calculations using a nonperturbative 14-band nanostructure model give good
agreement with experiment and indicate that possible structural inversion
asymmetry contributions to T1 associated with compositional mixing at the
superlattice interfaces may limit the observed spin lifetime in (110)
superlattices. Our findings have implications for potential spintronics
applications using InAs/GaSb heterostructures.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
