    Aportes desde la gestión del paisaje al Programa Administración del Medio Ambiente y al Plan de Gestión Institucional de la Facultad de Ciencias Ambientales

    Este trabajo de grado fue elaborado dentro del programa de Administración del Medio Ambiente, de la Facultad de Ciencias Ambientales1 (FCA), teniendo como propósito principal, demostrar la importancia de involucrar la temática del “Paisaje” en el pénsum del programa Administración del Medio Ambiente; resaltando su trascendencia. Así mismo constituye un aporte valioso en términos de administración académica, tanto para el programa, como para la Facultad de Ciencias Ambientales; al considerar los recientes enfoques teóricos, metodológicos y aplicados; consolidando un instrumento fundamental de interpretación del territorio. En esta dirección se realizó un diagnóstico sobre el estudio de esta temática en el programa de Administración del Medio Ambiente, convergiendo en las aproximaciones que ha tenido de alguna u otra forma, por la nominación de la UNESCO al Paisaje Cultural Cafetero como Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Posteriormente se efectúa un análisis de la incidencia que podría tener al ser introducido en el pénsum del Administrador Ambiental, mediante un enfoque metodológico de sistemas blandos, que fue de gran ayuda al poder hacer transformaciones de situaciones de inconformidad presentadas al interior de todo sistema complejo de las actividades humanas como lo es la Facultad de Ciencias Ambientales, en donde dichas situaciones necesitan ser transformadas y mejoradas. Finalmente, se formula una estrategia sistémica para incluir el tema de “Paisaje” en el Programa de Administración del Medio Ambiente; fortaleciendo así el Plan de gestión institucional de la Facultad de Ciencias Ambientales, incorporando como propuestas; el fortalecimiento del Currículo, la vinculación de un nuevo módulo temático, o el fortalecimiento desde la gestión del paisaje al Salado de Consotá entre otros.This work was developed grade within the program of Environmental Management, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, with the main purpose to demonstrate the importance of involving the theme of "Landscape" in the syllabus of Environmental Management program, highlighting the significance it might have on him. Becoming a valuable contribution in terms of academic administration for both the program and for the School of Environmental Sciences, all framed in a theoretical, methodological and applied, consolidating a tool for interpreting the territory. To which a diagnosis was made on the study of the subject on the agenda of Environmental Management, the approaches that have been in some way or another, to hosting the Coffee Cultural Landscape theme. Following an analysis of the impact may have to be introduced in the syllabus Environmental Manager, using a soft systems methodological approach, which was a great help to be able to make changes disagreement situations presented within any complex system of human activities such as the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, where such situations need to be transformed and improved. Finally, we formulate a systemic strategy to include the theme of "Landscape" in the Program Environmental Administraion, thus strengthening the Development Plan of the School of Environmental Sciences, incorporating as proposals, strengthening the curriculum, linking a new thematic module, or strengthening from landscape management Consota Salado among others

    Ravenscar computational model compliant AADL simulation on LEON2

    AADL has been proposed for designing and analyzing SW and HW architectures for real-time mission-critical embedded systems. Although the Behavioral Annex improves its simulation semantics, AADL is a language for analyzing architectures and not for simulating them. AADS-T is an AADL simulation tool that supports the performance analysis of the AADL specification throughout the refinement process from the initial system architecture until the complete, detailed application and execution platform are developed. In this way, AADS-T enables the verification of the initial timing constraints during the complete design process. In this paper we focus on the compatibility of AADS-T with the Ravenscar Computational Model (RCM) as part of the TASTE toolset. Its flexibility enables AADS-T to support different processors.     Life History Theory: evolutionary mechanisms and gender role on risk-taking behaviors in young adults

    Evolutionary psychology considers the human mind to be composed of multiple specific mechanisms with specific adaptive purposes. This evolutionary approach is in line with the domain-specific view of risk-taking behaviors. Based on the theoretical framework of Life History Theory, the present study analyzes the moder-ating effect of gender and the mediating effect of evolutionary domain-specific risks in young adult Spaniards (432 participants). K-factor, measured through the Mini-K, was used as an indicator of life history strategy (LHS). Evolutionary domain-specific risks were measured through the Evolutionary Domain-Specific Risk Scale and risk- taking behaviors through the Risky Behavior Questionnaire. Results showed an interaction effect between gender and LHS for rule breaking. Evolutionary domain-specific risks had a mediation effect between LHS and risk- taking behaviors, mainly through mate attraction. These results highlight the different effects of LHS on risk- taking behaviors based on gender and the impact of evolutionary mechanisms.     Biochemical and mutational studies of allantoinase from Bacillus licheniformis CECT 20T.

    Allantoinases (allantoin amidohydrolase, E.C. 3.5.2.5) catalyze the hydrolysis of the amide bond of allantoin to form allantoic acid, in those organisms where allantoin is not the final product of uric acid degradation. Despite their importance in the purine catabolic pathway, sequences of microbial allantoinases with proven activity are scarce, and only the enzyme from Escherichia coli (AllEco) has been studied in detail in the genomic era. In this work, we report the cloning, purification and characterization of the recombinant allantoinase from Bacillus licheniformis CECT 20T (AllBali). The enzyme was a homotetramer with an apparent Tm of 62 ± 1 °C. Optimal parameters for the enzyme activity were pH 7.5 and 50 °C, showing apparent Km and kcat values of 17.7 ± 2.7 mM and 24.4 ± 1.5 s−1, respectively. Co2+ proved to be the most effective cofactor, inverting the enantioselectivity of AllBali when compared to that previously reported for other allantoinases. The common ability of different cyclic amidohydrolases to hydrolyze distinct substrates to the natural one also proved true for AllBali. The enzyme was able to hydrolyze hydantoin, dihydrouracil and 5-ethyl-hydantoin, although at relative rates 3–4 orders of magnitude lower than with allantoin. Mutagenesis experiments suggest that S292 is likely implicated in the binding of the allantoin ring through the carbonyl group of the polypeptide main chain, which is the common mechanism observed in other members of the amidohydrolase family. In addition, our results suggest an allosteric effect of H2O2 toward allantoinase.pre-print829 K

    Design and Implementation of a Prototype with a Standardized Interface for Transducers in Ambient Assisted Living

    Solutions in the field of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) do not generally use standards to implement a communication interface between sensors and actuators. This makes these applications isolated solutions because it is so difficult to integrate them into new or existing systems. The objective of this research was to design and implement a prototype with a standardized interface for sensors and actuators to facilitate the integration of different solutions in the field of AAL. Our work is based on the roadmap defined by AALIANCE, using motes with TinyOS telosb, 6LoWPAN, sensors, and the IEEE 21451 standard protocol. This prototype allows one to upgrade sensors to a smart status for easy integration with new applications and already existing ones. The prototype has been evaluated for autonomy and performance. As a use case, the prototype has been tested in a serious game previously designed for people with mobility problems, and its advantages and disadvantages have been analysed.Junta de Andalucía P08-TIC-363

    Biochemical and Mutational Studies of the Bacillus cereus CECT 5050T Formamidase Support the Existence of a C-E-E-K Tetrad in Several Members of the Nitrilase Superfamily.

    Formamidases (EC 3.5.1.49) are poorly characterized proteins. In spite of this scarce knowledge, ammonia has been described as playing a central role in the pathogenesis of human pathogens such as Helicobacter pylori, for which formamidase has been shown to participate in the nitrogen metabolic pathway. Sequence analysis has revealed that at least two different groups of formamidases are classified as EC 3.5.1.49: on the one hand, the derivatives of the FmdA-AmdA superfamily, which are the best studied to date, and on the other hand, the derivatives of Helicobacter pylori AmiF. Here we present the cloning, purification, and characterization of a recombinant formamidase from Bacillus cereus CECT 5050T (BceAmiF), the second member of the AmiF subfamily to be characterized, showing new features of the enzyme further supporting its relationship with aliphatic amidases. We also present homology modeling-based mutational studies confirming the importance of the Glu140 and Tyr191 residues in the enzymatic activities of the AmiF family. Moreover, we can conclude that a second glutamate residue is critical in several members of the nitrilase superfamily, meaning that what has consistently been identified as a C-E-K triad is in fact a C-E-E-K tetrad.pre-print615 K

    Youth and the Third Sector Media in Spain: Communication and Social Change Training = Jóvenes y tercer sector de medios en España: Formación en comunicación y cambio social

    The aim of this paper is to examine the role of community, free and university media in Spain as tools for media literacy and as instruments for creating a more critical and communicative citizenry. After a conceptual section, we analyse training processes in this area with regard to the general population and their reference communities, devoting particular emphasis to the involvement of young people. The triangulation research method was based on quantitative (a survey) and qualitative (focus groups) techniques. The results show that the third sector media in Spain act as invaluable tools for the acquisition of skills and competences that are transferable into young people’s professional and experiential sphere, given the ability of these media outlets to identify with their interests, aspirations and difficulties. In a broad sense, these initiatives contribute to expanding the right of communication in two different ways: on the one hand, because they are open to citizen participation in both management responsibilities and content programming; and, on the other, because their decentralized practices provide a laboratory for creative journalism which, in turn, is linked to social movements and other means of expression for citizens (NGOs, associations, etc.)

    ESTELLE: A Method to Analyze Automatically the Performance of Telecontrol Protocols in SCADA Systems

    Variance prediction for population size estimation

    Evaluating the pharmacological response in fluorescence microscopy images: The Δm algorithm

    Current drug discovery procedures require fast and effective quantification of the pharmacological response evoked in living cells by agonist compounds. In the case of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), the efficacy of a particular drug to initiate the endocytosis process is related to the formation of endocytic vesicles or endosomes and their subsequent internalisation within intracellular compartments that can be observed with high spatial and temporal resolution by fluorescence microscopy techniques. Recently, an algorithm has been proposed to evaluate the pharmacological response by estimating the number of endosomes per cell on time series of images. However, the algorithm was limited by the dependence on some manually set parameters and in some cases the quality of the image does not allow a reliable detection of the endosomes. Here we propose a simple, fast and automated image analysis method?the ?m algorithm- to quantify a pharmacological response with data obtained from fluorescence microscopy experiments. This algorithm does not require individual object detection and computes the relative increment of the third order moment in fluorescence microscopy images after filtering with the Laplacian of Gaussian function. It was tested on simulations demonstrating its ability to discriminate different experimental situations according to the number and the fluorescence signal intensity of the simulated endosomes. Finally and in order to validate this methodology with real data, the algorithm was applied to several time-course experiments based on the endocytosis of the mu opioid receptor (MOP) initiated by different agonist compounds. Each drug displayed a different ?m sigmoid time-response curve and statistically significant differences were observed among drugs in terms of efficacy and kinetic parameters
