Meanings of fractions as demonstrated by future primary teachers in the initial phase of teacher education

Fractions are a fundamental content of primary-level education and must therefore be included in the training courses for primary school teachers. Experts argue that deep understanding is required to improve primary school teachers’ knowledge of this mathematical concept (Ball, 1990; Cramer, Post & del Mas, 2002; Newton, 2008). Our study focuses on the part-whole relationship as a crucial foundation in working with fractions. This paper characterizes some of the meanings of this relationship for a group of future primary school teachers

The part-whole relation is complex and raises questions that affect different disciplines. Researchers have proposed different interpretations of the notions of fraction and rational number (e.g., Behr, Lesh, Post & Silver, 1983; Kieren, 1976). We highlight three kinds of relations in the study of rational numbers—the part whole-relation, the part-part relation, and the functional relation—through which we organize the different subconstructs of rational number. Planificación de la enseñanza del concepto de fracción por maestros en formación

En este documento indagamos sobre algunos aspectos del conocimiento didáctico que un grupo de maestros de primaria en formación inicial ponen en juego al redactar un texto cuyo propósito es iniciar a los escolares de primaria en la noción de fracción. Usamos algunas de las categorías del análisis didáctico para analizar las producciones de los futuros maestros. Los resultados destacan los conocimientos que los participantes seleccionan, como el concepto de numerador y denominador, la suma y resta de fracciones o el concepto de unidad, y el modo en que los introducen en sus propuestas

La enseñanza inicial del concepto de fracción: un estudio con maestros en formación

En este documento presentamos las indagaciones sobre el conocimiento didáctico del contenido que un grupo de futuros maestros de primaria pusieron en juego al redactar un texto con el cual iniciar a los escolares de primaria en la noción parte-todo de fracción. Para analizar las producciones de los futuros maestros usamos un modelo de análisis didáctico, con categorías propias para los análisis de contenido y de instrucción. Los resultados destacan los contenidos sobre fracciones que los participantes seleccionaron, el modo en que propusieron introducir esos contenidos y el uso que hicieron de las representaciones en sus propuestas

Characterization and Defect Analysis of Machined Regions in Al-SiC Metal Matrix Composites Using an Abrasive Water Jet Machining Process

Metal matrix composite (MMC) materials are increasingly used in industrial sectors such as energy, structural, aerospace, and automotive. This is due to the improvement of properties by the addition of reinforcements. Thus, it is possible to obtain properties of higher strength, better rigidity, controlled thermal expansion, and elevated wear resistance. However, due to the extreme hardness achieved during their manufacture, these composites pose a challenge to the conventional machining industry due to the rapid deterioration experienced by cutting tools. This article therefore proposes the use of an unconventional machining method that is becoming increasingly widely used: abrasive water jet cutting. This process is characterized by high production rates, absence of wear, and environmental friendliness, among other advantages. Experimental tests were carried out in order to analyze results that minimize the formation of defects in the machining of metal matrix composite consisting of aluminium matrix with silicon carbide (Al-SiC MMC). To this end, results were analyzed using Scanning Optical and Electron Microscope (SOM/SEM) techniques, the taper angle was calculated, and areas with different surface quality were detected by measuring the roughness

Propuesta metodológica de análisis técnico-táctico individual de vídeo en equipos de fútbol amateur = Methodological approach about individual video analysis in amateur football teams

El presente trabajo establece unas pautas de intervención relacionadas con el análisis técnico-táctico individual de jugadores de equipo propio, en un contexto de fútbol amateur. Su realización se fundamenta, principalmente, en tres fuentes. La primera es la consulta de bibliografía específica en el análisis táctico, la segunda se corresponde con la formación y experiencia previa del autor, y la tercera es la realización de una consulta de expertos en el contexto del trabajo, siguiendo las bases del método Delphi. Como resultado, se ha diseñado una propuesta metodológica indicando aspectos relativos a dos grandes bloques: la herramienta de análisis y el “microciclo del analista”. Utilizando el programa informático VA-Express, se ha elaborado un sistema de categorías por puestos específicos, con indicadores técnico-tácticos individuales y conductas observables. Además, se han diseñado unas plantillas de informe, reutilizables a lo largo de la temporada, y unas pautas de realización de los mismos. En cuanto al “microciclo del analista”, se ha definido una secuencia de actuación y unas pautas de exposición de informes (tipo y tiempo máximo de presentación, momento dentro de la sesión de entrenamiento y asignación de las personas responsables de la exposición). En definitiva, la propuesta metodológica creada permite proporcionar un feedback constante de la evolución del rendimiento en competición de los distintos jugadores de equipo propio, con el fin de promover la mejora del jugador, así como la toma de decisiones por parte del entrenador y de la secretaría técnica del clu

Relación de la competencia motriz percibida con la práctica físico-deportiva

The aim of this research study is to determine the relationship between an individuals perceived motor competence and their tendency to play sport or do physical activities. For the purpose of the study, one-to-one relationships were established between a perceived level of competence and sociodemographic variables (age, gender, a certain level of education), the amount of sport/physical activity a person did, the time devoted to the latter, whether the sport/activity las done as a team or individually, and whether the individuals did these activities under the organization of a federation or on their own. The sample group consisted of 1,111 individuals of ages ranging from 15 to 64. Data was compiled by means of a specially designed analytical questionnaire on sports and physical activities. After conducting several analyses to test the independence of the variables, using Pearsons c2 test complemented with residual analyses among others, the conclusions that were obtained suggest that young people and males have a higher perception of their motor competence and that this perception worsens progressively as people age. There is a direct link between how people perceive their motor competence and the amount of sport/physical activity they do. This is higher when the participants are the members of a federation and when people do team sports or group physical activities

Measuring and linking social network knowledge exchange and organisational performance

[EN] This paper deals with how to measure social network knowledge exchange and its link with organisational performance. First, it revises both social network analysis and performance measurement techniques, highlighting the main performance elements that may be used. Then, it categorises the main social knowledge network working levels and components from a performance management perspective. It presents the main dimensions of social knowledge networks (actors, knowledge exchange and performance elements) from the performance management point of view. Last but not least, it describes and categorises the main techniques that could be used in order to determine the current and future position inside the social knowledge network (Data Envelopment Analysis).
