Plasmons and Interband Transitions of CaSrCuO investigated by Electron Energy-Loss Spectroscopy
Electron energy-loss spectroscopy studies have been performed in order to get
a deeper insight into the electronic structure and elementary excitations of
the two-leg ladder system CaSrCuO. We find a strong
anisotropy of the loss function for momentum transfers along the a and
c-crystallographic axis, and a remarkable linear plasmon dispersion for a
momentum transfer parallel to the legs of the ladders. The investigated
spectral features are attributed to localized and delocalized charge-transfer
excitations and the charge carrier plasmon. The charge carrier plasmon position
and dispersion in the long wave-length limit agree well with expectations based
upon the band structure of the two-leg ladder, while the observed quasi-linear
plasmon dispersion might be related to the peculiar properties of underdoped

Der Beitrag erinnert an Lehrer und Lehrerinnen, Schülerinnen und Schüler, die bei den Amokläufen an Schulen in den vergangenen 15 Jahren ihr Leben verloren haben, und sucht eine Antwort auf die Frage, die Bertrand Russell am zehnten Jahrestag zum Aufstand im Warschauer Ghetto allen Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern ins Stammbuch geschrieben hat: „Was macht die Menschen zu dem, was sie sind?“. Dabei rückt der Autor bei der Suche nach einer Antwort Familie und Schule als die zentralen Sozialisationsagenturen in den Mittelpunkt. Auf der Grundlage vorliegender Forschungsberichte sucht er Alternativen zur gegebenen „Kultur der Gewinner“.The essay commemorates the teachers and students who lost their lives in the school shootings of the past 15 years. It also tries to find an answer to the question that Bertrand Russell posed to all of academia on the occasion of the 10th commemoration day of the Warsaw Ghetto revolt: „What turns the human being into what he/she is?“ Searching for an answer, the author declares the school and the family to be the centers of socialization and puts them into the focus of his investigation. On the basis of available research reports, he looks for alternatives to the contemporary „culture of winners“
