    Extending theories on muon-specific interactions

The proton radius puzzle, the discrepancy between the proton radius measured in muonic hydrogen and electronic hydrogen, has yet to be resolved. There are suggestions that beyond-the-standard-model physics could resolve both this puzzle and the muon anomalous magnetic moment discrepancy. Karshenboim et al. point out that simple, nonrenormalizable, models in this direction involving new vector bosons have serious problems when confronting high energy data. The prime example is radiative corrections to W - \u3e mu nu decay which exceed experimental bounds. We show how embedding the model in a larger and arguably renormalizable theory restores gauge invariance of the vector particle interactions and controls the high energy behavior of decay and scattering amplitudes. Thus, beyond-the-standard-model explanations of the proton radius puzzle can still be viable

Lattice corrections to the quark quasidistribution at one loop

    Get PDF
We calculate radiative corrections to the quark quasidistribution in lattice perturbation theory at one loop to leading orders in the lattice spacing. We also consider one-loop corrections in continuum Euclidean space. We find that the infrared behavior of the corrections in Euclidean and Minkowski space are different. We explore features of momentum loop integrals and demonstrate why loop corrections from the lattice perturbation theory and Euclidean continuum do not correspond with their Minkowski brethren, and comment on a recent suggestion for transcending the differences in the results. Further, we examine the role of the lattice spacing a and of the r parameter in the Wilson action in these radiative corrections

    Cryogenic Fuel Valve Testbed Development

    Get PDF
The goal for this project is to update the cryogenic valve testbed program in LabVIEW to schedule and automate tests and experiments. By using an automated system, tens or hundreds of tests may be performed. This will ensure that accurate data is being collected for testing of the remaining useful life and end of life predictions. From the data obtained, new diagnostic and prognostic methods will be developed to manage or predict potential leaks which may occur in the future. The Cryogenic valve testbed injects controlled faults into the cryogenic fuel valve system in order to accurately determine failure behavior

Exploring gender differences in perceptions of 3D telepresence collaboration technology: An example from emergency medical care

    Get PDF
Previous research on gender differences and collaboration technology illustrate the need to investigate gender issues as early as possible in the development cycle in order to avoid any negative consequences the technology may impose. Therefore we are investigating the potential of 3D telepresence technology now when only a proof-of-concept demonstration of the technology exists. We conducted a controlled lab study using a post-test design in which male and female paramedics diagnosed and treated a trauma victim (a computerized mannequin) in collaboration with a physician via 2D video or a 3D proxy. The results show several gender differences that imply male paramedics may inherently receive more benefits from use of the 3D telepresence technology than female paramedics

Revisitig Multinational Securities Offerings After the Frehnch Privatization No-Action Letters

This Note argues that the SEC must clarify and modernize its present approach to facilitate participation by U.S. institutional investors in global offerings. Part I examines the French privatization program. Part II analyzes the Act\u27s relevant provisions and the SEC\u27s no-action letters addressing the application of these provisions to involvement by U.S. investors in the initial French offerings. Part III proposes alternatives to the SEC procedures that currently apply to simultaneous multinational offerings. This Note concludes that the SEC must eliminate unnecessary barriers to participation by U.S. investors in global securities offerings and adopt a new approach that recognizes and promotes the interests of U.S. institutional investors
