    Europe at a critical legitimacy juncture: which people, whose values?

    This paper discusses the discursive nexus of ‘the people’ drawing from the mediatisation and institutionalisation of Brexit. It focuses on how metadiscourses of popular sovereignty have been instrumental in the legitimation of Brexit and on how such discourses are now more widely echoed in different populist and nativist political projects across Europe that are seeking consensus through a delegitimation of the EU. The discussion draws attention to the emergence of counter discourses of the people but also to the structural conditions that prevent or limit the consolidation of robust transnational forms of European citizenry. This scenario will arguably define the next European elections as a critical juncture where the legitimacy of the European project will be contested in the name of different ‘peoples’ and ‘values’

    TRANSFER LEARNING PERFORMANCE FOR REMOTE PASTURELAND TRAIT ESTIMATION IN REAL-TIME FARM MONITORING

    In precision agriculture, having knowledge of pastureland forage biomass and moisture content prior to an ensiling process enables pastoralists to enhance silage production. While traditional trait measurement estimation methods relied on hand-crafted vegetation indices, manual measurements, or even destructive methods, remote sensing technology coupled with state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms can enable estimation using a broader spectrum of data, but generally require large volumes of labelled data, which is lacking in this domain. This work investigates the performance of a range of deep learning algorithms on a small dataset for biomass and moisture estimation that was collected with a compact remote sensing system designed to work in real time. Our results showed that applying transfer learning to Inception ResNet improved minimum mean average percentage error from 45.58% on a basic CNN, to 28.07% on biomass, and from 29.33% to 8.03% on moisture content. From scratch models and models optimised for mobile remote sensing applications (MobileNet) failed to produce the same level of improvement

    Operator Counting for N=2 Chern-Simons Gauge Theories with Chiral-like Matter Fields

    The localization formula of Chern-Simons quiver gauge theory on S3S^3 nicely reproduces the geometric data such as volume of Sasaki-Einstein manifolds in the large-NN limit, at least for vector-like models. The validity of chiral-like models is not established yet, due to technical problems in both analytic and numerical approaches. Recently Gulotta, Herzog and Pufu suggested that the counting of chiral operators can be used to find the eigenvalue distribution of quiver matrix models. In this paper we apply this method to some vector-like or chiral-like quiver theories, including the triangular quivers with generic Chern-Simons levels which are dual to in-homogeneous Sasaki-Einstein manifolds Yp,k(CP2)Y^{p,k}(\mathbb{CP}^2).     Service Quality of the banks referred as an obligation of all banks to fulfill the objectives and needs of the customers. Service quality in private sector banks is good compare to public sector banks. The various issues the banks are not able to provide immediate response to customers, service time duration is more, long queue deposit the money, waiting for long time, staff behavior is not good, especially public sector banks are not providing multitude services like payment of bills, payment of tax, Banc assurance etc. and problem relating to banking service such as bank statements, error in the statements are not provided immediate response to customers. The scope of this research is to identify the service quality of public and private sector banks in Tirunelveli district. This study only focuses on the dimensions of service quality i.e. reliability, assurance, tangibility, empathy and responsiveness. The study was done taking two types of banks such as public and private sector banks in Tirunelveli district into consideration. The survey was restricted to the bank customers in Tirunelveli district only. As the population size is infinite, 672 respondents are selected as sample among the population using stratified random sampling. The sample has been stratified as 528 from public sector bank customers and 144 from private sector bank customers in Tirunelveli district

    D-brane Instantons as Gauge Instantons in Orientifolds of Chiral Quiver Theories

    Systems of D3-branes at orientifold singularities can receive non-perturbative D-brane instanton corrections, inducing field theory operators in the 4d effective theory. In certain non-chiral examples, these systems have been realized as the infrared endpoint of a Seiberg duality cascade, in which the D-brane instanton effects arise from strong gauge theory dynamics. We present the first UV duality cascade completion of chiral D3-brane theories, in which the D-brane instantons arise from gauge theory dynamics. Chiral examples are interesting because the instanton fermion zero mode sector is topologically protected, and therefore lead to more robust setups. As an application of our results, we provide a UV completion of certain D-brane orientifold systems recently claimed to produce conformal field theories with conformal invariance broken only by D-brane instantons.Comment: 50 pages, 32 figures. v2: version published in JHEP with references adde

    It has been recently shown that every SCFT living on D3 branes at a toric Calabi-Yau singularity surprisingly also describes a complete integrable system.
