    Partial extinction and reinstatement

    Get PDF
Fear extinction is not permanent but more vulnerable than the original fear memory, as relapse phenomena have traditionally shown. Partial extinction has been proposed as a strategy that may serve to mitigate relapses. Partial extinction differs from the standard procedure as it includes the occasional presentation of CS-US trials at the beginning of the extinction training. The present experiment, using an aversive differential conditioning procedure, evaluates whether partial extinction can reduce reinstatement, a specific form of relapse. The results showed that partial extinction did not mitigate reinstatement but proved effective to diminish the magnitude of the US expectation after a first reacquisition trial in a final test phase. The results reported are more consistent with theories that conceives extinction as the acquisition of new inhibitory learning rather than the erasure of the original conditioning.Universidad de Málaga. Secular variations of magma source compositions in the North Patagonian batholith from the Jurassic to Tertiary: Was mélange melting involved?

This research was funded by the Spanish Agency of Science and Technology (Projects CGL201348408-C3-1-P and PGC2018-096534-B-I00) and the University of Huelva. Rodriguez is grateful for a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral research grant. This is IBERSIMS publication 49.This study of Sr-Nd initial isotopic ratios of plutons from the North Patagonian batholith (Argentina and Chile) revealed that a secular evolution spanning 180 m.y., from the Jurassic to Neogene, can be established in terms of magma sources, which in turn are correlated with changes in the tectonic regime. The provenance and composition of end-member components in the source of magmas are represented by the Sr-Nd initial isotopic ratios (Sr-87/Sr-86 and Nd-143/Nd-144) of the plutonic rocks. Our results support the interpretation that source composition was determined by incorporation of varied crustal materials and trench sediments via subduction erosion and sediment subduction into a subduction channel melange. Subsequent melting of subducted melanges at mantle depths and eventual reaction with the ultramafic mantle are proposed as the main causes of batholith magma generation, which was favored during periods of fast convergence and high obliquity between the involved plates. We propose that a parental diorite (= andesite) precursor arrived at the lower arc crust, where it underwent fractionation to yield the silicic melts (granodiorites and granites) that formed the batholiths. The diorite precursor could have been in turn fractionated from a more mafic melt of basaltic andesite composition, which was formed within the mantle by complete reaction of the bulk melanges and the peridotite. Our proposal follows model predictions on the formation of melange diapirs that carry fertile subducted materials into hot regions of the suprasubduction mantle wedge, where mafic parental magmas of batholiths originate. This model not only accounts for the secular geochemical variations of Andean batholiths, but it also avoids a fundamental paradox of the classical basalt model: the absence of ultramafic cumulates in the lower arc crust and in the continental crust in general.Spanish Agency of Science and Technology CGL201348408-C3-1-P PGC2018-096534-B-I00University of HuelvaJuan de la Cierva postdoctoral research gran

The conception and role of interdisciplinarity in the Spanish education system

    Get PDF
This article provides an overview of the role that interdisciplinarity plays in the Spanish education system. With this aim, we first describe the main conception of the term interdisciplinarity in texts written in Spanish, including other terms that have similar meaning. Then we review the role of interdisciplinarity in the Spanish curriculum at different levels of education, focusing fundamentally on compulsory education. This serves as the basis from which later to analyze Spanish research on interdisciplinarity. Finally, through results of this research and some examples of interdisciplinary school practices, we extract conclusions about the role of interdisciplinarity in teaching practices in the classroom

Decision-support method for profitable residential energy retrofitting based on energy-related occupant behaviour

    Get PDF
Low-carbon energy retrofitting in buildings plays an important role because 75% of European buildings are considered inefficient and more than 40% are currently over 50 years old. The economic reinvestment of energy retrofit actions through reduced energy bills, as energy directives promote, greatly depends upon the energy consumption patterns. In support of the decision-making process towards a low-carbon energy transition in multi-family buildings, this paper introduces a novel assessment method that evaluates the profitability of energy efficiency measures, according to standard operating conditions derived from energy performance certificate procedures and real occupant energy consumption scenarios, through a parametric analysis. The aim is to assess the real energy and economic savings of retrofitting actions, depending on different energy-related occupant scenarios, and to enable comparisons with other buildings, providing a valuable model to identify the most feasible and low-carbon energy strategies in residential energy retrofitting. A Spanish multi-family building from 1942 is taken as the reference case study. The results show that energy savings for dwellings vary up to 80%, and the net present value per dwelling differs by up to 20,000V between different energy consumption patterns. The most appropriate energy efficiency measures according to low, medium or high consumption scenarios are highlighted

EL IRC como herramienta para la formación flexible y a distancia

    Get PDF

Antiwear performance of ionic liquid+graphene dispersions with anomalous viscosity-temperature behavior

    Get PDF
New dispersions of few-layers graphene (G) in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ([EMIM]) ionic liquids (ILs) with dicyanamide ([DCA]) or bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([TFSI]) anions have been obtained by mechanical mixing and sonication. IL+0.5 wt% G dispersions show constant viscosity values from 357K (for IL = [EMIM][DCA]) or from 385K (for IL = [EMIM][TFSI]) to 393K. IL + G dispersions with G > 0.5 wt% show linear viscosity increases with increasing temperature, from 306K (for [EMIM][DCA]+1 wt%G) and from 330K to 393K (for [EMIM][TFSI]+0.75 wt%G and [EMIM][TFSI]+1 wt%G). Addition of graphene improves the poor wear reducing performance of [EMIM][DCA], and prevents surface damage on steel when added to [EMIM][TFSI]. Graphene increases the load-carrying ability of ILs, forms a surface layer on the sliding path and retains wear debris, preventing the formation of large abrasive particles.

Carbene-Controlled Regioselective Functionalization of Linear Alkanes under Silver Catalysis

    Get PDF
Control of the regioselectivity in the functionalization of C–H bonds of linear alkanes C2H2n+2 via carbene transfer from diazo compounds is restricted to the use of rhodium-based catalysts, which govern the reaction outcome employing donor–acceptor diazo reagents. At variance with that catalyst-controlled strategy, we present an alternative approach in which employing the appropriate silver complexes containing trispyrazolylborate ligands as catalysts with large differences in their steric and electronic properties, the regioselection is mainly governed by the diazo reagent, which leads to the functionalization of primary or secondary sites of linear alkanes (lacking any activating or directing groups). Donor–acceptor aryl diazoacetates exclusively provide the functionalization of the secondary sites of hexane or pentane, whereas acceptor ethyl diazoacetate leads to an unprecedented level of primary functionalization. We thank to Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación for Grant PID2020-113797RB-C21.
