Liquid entered the Portuguese market in April 2011 with an innovate concept that, at that time, was only present outside national borders- with functional juices and smoothies, Liquid came up with a new and healthy alternative to the options found in the market. Its objective is to offer the health-concerned individuals the opportunity to opt healthy for their meals, where they can find the nutrients and vitamins one is expected to consume throughout the day. In one’s busy and stressed life, Liquid offers an easy and healthy alternative. The idea came from Teresa Barata, founder and CEO of Liquid, who based the brand’s foundation on her passion about healthy eating and nutrition in general. Still, Teresa lacked the knowledge and experience on launching and running a business. Of course, this had some repercussions- this dissertation strives to find what these were. Liquid has been losing focus and direction, much due to the lack of planning in the beginning. The many projects the company has been having led Teresa to rethink the brand’s essence. So, there is the need to understand what Liquid has to offer to the consumers and how it can add value to them. The results from the analysis of this dissertation suggest that Liquid has failed in positioning the brand in the mind of the consumers, which ultimately has led to the misallocation of the brand’s actual competition- this will help Liquid to find value proposition and implement it in the right frame of reference.

Influence of lattice symmetry on ultrasound transmission through plates with subwavelength aperture arrays

3 pages, 2 figures, 1 table. We study the transmission of sound waves through aluminum plates perforated with square and triangular hole arrays. We demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally that lattice symmetry affects the position of the Wood anomalies and the width of the transmission peaks. The angle and frequency dependence of sound transmission through perforated plates are thoroughly discussed. Finally, we observe unexpected anisotropic behavior in the long-wavelength Lamb-mode bands of perforated plates. This work has been supported by the Spanish MICINN (Grant Nos. Pdf con material suplementario. We study the angle and frequency dependence of sound transmission through water-immersed perforated aluminum plates. Three types of resonances are found to govern the acoustic properties of the plates: lattice resonances in periodic arrays, Fabry-Perot modes of the hole cavities, and elastic Lamb modes. The last two of them are still present in random arrays and have no parallel in optical transmission through holes. These modes are identified by comparing experiment with various levels of theoretical analysis, including full solution of the elasto-acoustic wave equations. We observe strong mixture of different transmission mechanisms, giving rise to unique acoustic behavior and opening new perspectives for exotic wave phenomena. © 2009 The American Physical SocietyThis work has been supported by the Spanish MCeI (MAT2006-03097, MAT2007-66050, and NanoLight.es) and the EU (NMP4-SL-2008-213669-ENSEMBLE).Peer Reviewe

Influence of the hole filling fraction on the ultrasonic transmission through plates with subwavelength aperture arrays

We report on the large impact of the hole filling fraction on the ultrasonic transmission spectra of periodic subwavelength hole arrays. We demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally that transmission peaks become narrower as the filling fraction decreases. Our results are consistent in plates with different thickness values and provide a route map for the design of plates with tailored acoustic transmission profiles. © 2008 American Institute of Physics.Peer Reviewe

Thermal effects on the diesel injector performance through adiabatic 1D modelling. Part II: Model validation, results of the simulations and discussion

[EN] In this paper, a one-dimensional computational model of the flow in a common-rail injector is used to compute local variations of fuel temperature (including the temperature change produced upon expansion across the nozzle) and analyse their effect on injector dynamics. These variations are accounted through the adiabatic flow hypothesis, assessed in a first part of the paper where the model features are also described. They imply variations in the fuel properties and the flow regime established across the injector internal restrictions driving the solenoid valve. An extensive validation of the model against experimental results is presented for a wide range of conditions. Multiple injection strategies are also explored, analysing the influence of the inlet fuel temperature and its variations on the mass injected by successive injections and the critical dwell time below which they cannot be separated. Results show significant changes in fuel temperature across some injector restrictions. These changes are greater the higher the rail pressure and lower the fuel temperature at the injector inlet. In the case of the flow across nozzle orifices, the fuel can be either heated or subcooled depending on the operating conditions, the heating being especially relevant for cold-start-like fuel temperatures at the inlet. Thermal effects also influence the injection rate and duration. This influence on injector dynamics is particularly accused in the injector of study due to its ballistic nature. In this regard, the time needed to effectively separate two successive injections is greater the higher the fuel temperature and the injection pressure. This work was partly sponsored by FEDER and the Spanish "Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad" in the frame of the project "Desarrollo de modelos de combustion y emisiones HPC para el analisis de plantas propulsivas de transporte sostenible (CHEST)", reference TRA2017-89139-C2-1-R-AR.

    Get PDF

Background. The needs of children’s mental health care make it necessary to have epidemiological studies that serve as a basis to refine the interventions and enhance the diagnosis with reliable and appropriate tools. Objective. The objective of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the scale for the assessment of the Attentional Deficit Disorder (ADHD) in primary and secondary schools in Chile. Method. A sample of 508 students (144 with Attentional deficits, 110 with suspected autism and 254 common) was assessed through a test completed by their teachers. Results. The factorial structure of the ADHD revealed that three factors explain together the 71.61 % of the total variance of the scale, with a coefficient alpha of 0,948. This allows us to conclude that the scale presents acceptable psychometric characteristics and adequate internal consistency, and that its elements have a suitable discriminatory power. Discussion and conclusion. The present study of mental health in Chilean schoolchildren revealed that the ADHD adapted scale possesses a high discriminant capacity and adequate elements and factors reliability, as well as an optimal discriminant power among factors. We analyze the implications and possible contribution to the early detection of clinical diagnosis in mental health

[EN] This paper presents an overview of the recents studies on the ultrasonic transmission through subwavelength holes arrays. The role of the geometrical parameters of the perforated plates in the transmission features has been reported by using a theoretical model under the rigid-solid assumption. It is shown that the transmission spectrum can be tailored by varying the geometrical parameters. This work has been supported by the Spanish MICINN (MAT2010-16879).Uris Martínez, A.; Gómez Lozano, V.; Candelas Valiente, P.; Belmar Ibáñez, F. Natural flow regime, degree of alteration and environmental ows in the Mula stream (Segura River basin, SE Spain)

Natural ftow regime, degree of alteration and environmental ftows in the Mula stream (Segura River basin, SE Spain) The Mula stream, a tributary located in the southern part of the Segura River basin, possesses habitats and species of European interest for which it has been declared Special Area of Conservation (SAC) within the Natura 2000 network. However, strong agricultural pressures on the superficial and groundwater resources of the Mula stream are threatening its ecological state. A characterisation of the natural flow regime of the stream and its main tributaries was carried out to design environmental flow regimes (EFRs) and make the conservation of the ecosystem compatible with agricultural requirements. Natural hydrographs, based on daily data corresponding to pre-dam periods, showed a high inter- and intra-annual variability typical of Mediterranean streams, with high flows in autumn and spring and low flows in summer. After the construction of the La Cierva reservoir in the Mula stream, the flow regime has been progressively altered in parallel with the expansion of irrigated agriculture in the watershed. The current regime shows a significant reduction in the magnitude of flows and a reversal of the seasonal pattero, with droughts during winter instead of summer months becoming more frequent and long-Iasting. Different EFRs are presented for three conservation scenarios of natural flow regimes in wet, average and dry years. Once the environmental flows were subtracted from the natural ones, the available water resources for agriculture were clearly insufficient in al! studied scenarios, which poses problems for the implementation of such environmental flows in this basin.

Analysis of Predistortion Techniques on Fresnel Zone Plates in Ultrasound Applications

[EN] In this work, we analyze the effect of predistortion techniques on the focusing profile of Fresnel Zone Plates (FZPs) in ultrasound applications. This novel predistortion method is based on either increasing or decreasing the width of some of the FZP Fresnel rings by a certain amount. We investigate how the magnitude of the predistortion, as well as the number and location of the predistorted rings, influences the lens focusing profile. This focusing profile can be affected in different ways depending on the area of the lens where the predistortion is applied. It is shown that when the inner area of the lens, closer to its center, is predistorted, this technique allows the control of the focal depth at the main focus. However, when the predistortion is applied to an area farther from the center of the lens, the acoustic intensity distribution among the main focus and the closest adjacent secondary foci can be tailored at a certain degree. This predistortion technique shows great potential and can be used to control, modify and shape the FZP focusing profile in both industrial and therapeutic applications. This work has been supported by Spanish MICINN RTI2018-100792-B-I00 project and Generalitat Valenciana AICO/2020/139 project.Fuster Escuder, JM.; Pérez-López, S.; Belmar Ibáñez, F.; Candelas Valiente, P.
