Identification and validation of microsatellite markers in strawberry tree (Arbutusunedo L.)
Strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo L.), an evergreen shrub/small tree of the family Ericaceae, is a main constituent of the Mediterranean basin flora; although it is also found in southwestern Prance, Macaronesia, and Ireland. The small fruits are edible but mostly used for preparation of preserves and jams, and for liquors such as the Portuguese traditional "aguardente de medronho". Traditionally cultivated by small farmers, often in consociation with Quercus sp., strawberry tree is presently emerging as a new important fruit crop cultivated in large orchards by modern export-oriented enterprises. This change of paradigm requires a growing role of plant breeding, upstream of the production process. Genomic tools for this species are mostly limited to the chloroplast genome sequence and to genomic data described in this work. In order to identify strawberry tree microsatellite (SSR) loci we performed partial genome next-generation sequencing using the Ion Torrent technology. The sequenced similar to 24.6M nucleotides resulted in the identification of 1185 microsatellite markers mostly constituted by dinucleotide motifs. The relative amount of microsatellite dinucleotide motifs (AG/CT - 71.7%, AC/GT - 20.5%, AT/AT - 2.9%, and CG/CG - 0.3%) is similar to the one observed in other Ericaceae species. Among a tested sample of 40 SSR primer pairs, 20 amplified well-defined PCR products, 12 (30%) were validated as polymorphic. Used in our collaborative project for molecular identification of selected and improved clones, the identified SSR loci constitute a strong tool for a large panoply of applied and fundamental studies of this emerging fruit crop.Pluriannual Funding Program of the Portuguese National Foundation for Science and Technologyinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Analysis of simply supported wood beams at ambient and high temperatures
The main objective of this work is to present a methodology for safety analysis of simply supported wood beams at ambient and high temperatures with a concentrated load at mid-span. Sixteen different beam configurations will be studied. All calculations were conducted according the Eurocode 5, part 1-1 and part 1-2. During this study will be analyzed the safe load bearing capacity according standards and compared with the elastic and plastic load from beam theory. The beam theory can provide sufficient accuracy up to the point of instability. The standard methods are generally conservative and they are suitable to be used for design purposes with safety. The studied beam cross sections will be in glued laminated wood, as yellow birch, with characteristics equals to a Glulam GL28H.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Empirical Research of the ISO 9001:2015 Transition Process in Portugal: Motivations, Benefits, and Success Factors
An empirical study of more than 300 Portuguese organisations ISO 9001 certified, or in certification process, encompassing a wide range of activities sectors, was carried out. As of May 2017, 19% of the respondents already have ISO 9001:2015 certification and all the remaining one’s plan to complete the process in time. The
principal reported benefits are risk-based thinking, mapping of the organisational context, and stakeholder identification. Simultaneously those were the issues that required more attention and effort to be mastered and implemented. Additionally, there is evidence that ISO 9001:2015 enhances both internal and external
organisational issues and generates benefits for all the researched dimensions. Based on the respondents’ responses, organisations who claimed that external motivations were the primary drivers to ISO 9001:2015 implementation systematically rate higher all the benefits when compared with the rating ascribed by those organisations who claimed internal motivations. Moreover, it is possible to conclude that the perceived benefits from ISO 9001:2015 implementation and certification seem to be strongly influenced by two primary dimensions: the (smaller) organisation size and the (lesser) international presence. The authors would like to acknowledge the contribution of the respondents. Using ICT to support reflection in pre-service mathematics teacher education
This paper analyses a virtual supervision setting (e-mail and forum) during the practicum in a pre-service secondary school mathematics teacher education program. It is a study of the authors’ own professional practice using a qualitative-interpretative approach and case studies of student teachers. The results show that the setting was significant for pre-service teachers who had a more reflective attitude, but was seen as a burden by the others. The forum enabled fruitful reflections and discussions and e-mail was mostly used for organizational matters. In the future, attention must be paid to the role of the educational supervisor in fostering participation in the forum and use of e-mail.
Internal Ossa-Morena Zone Ophiolitic Sequences: geodynamic implications for the evolution of the SW branch of the Iberian Variscan Chain
The Internal Ophiolitic Sequences correspond to allochthonous oceanic crust fragments that outcrop near the SW boundary of the Ossa-Morena Zone (Evora-Beja Domain), in an internal position relative to the Beja-Acebuches Ophiolitic Complex. The Internal Ophiolitic Sequences occur as tectonic imbrications or klippen, in the Moura Phyllonitic Complex. Despite deformation and metamorphism (greenschist/amphibolite facies), they still preserve a typical ophiolitic internal stratigraphy identical to the one described for many LOT (“Lherzolitic Ophiolite Type”) ophiolites. Geochemical data indicates that the Internal Ophiolitic Sequences have variable tholeiitic chemistry, transitional between N-MORB and E-MORB. Petrogenetic modelling suggests that the observed geochemical
variations reflect both mantle source heterogeneity and partial melting processes. The Internal Ophiolitic Sequences geochemistry indicates that their igneous protholites formed in an anorogenic tectonomagmatic environment, like the ocean ridge basins, without any influence of orogenic components related to subduction mechanisms. These features contrast markedly with those reported for the Beja-Acebuches Ophiolitic Complex, which have been interpreted as representing oceanic crust generated in a “back-arc” setting,.
Thus, supporting the existence of two distinct oceanic basins (ocean ridge and back-arc) during the geodynamical evolution of the SW Iberian Variscan Chain. Therefore, the Internal Ophiolitic Sequences in the Ossa-Morena Zone reflect the early oceanization events during the Variscan Orogeny
pubmed e PMC), Scopus e Elsevier. As palavras chaves utilizadas nas procuras
foram as seguintes: ("periimplantitis" OR "peri-implantitis" OR "mucositis") AND
("low-level laser therapy (LLLT)" OR "photobiomodulation therapy") AND
("clinical" OR "in vivo" OR human) or ("CO2" OR "DIODE" OR "ER: YAG" OR
“ND:YAG” OR ER,CR:YSGG”) AND (Peri-implantitis OR mucositis)
Introduction:
With the current scientific evidence there is no defined protocol for the treatment
of peri-implant diseases, such as mucositis and peri-implantitis, but nevertheless
there is a list of recommendations to obtain the best result. The objective of this
study is to see if the use of laser is beneficial when used as an adjunctive therapy
to surgical or non-surgical treatments and to understand if it may one day become
a gold standard treatment for peri-implant diseases such as mucositis and periimplantitis.
Materials and methods:
An electronic search was performed in MEDLINE (NCBI pubmed and PMC),
Scopus and Elsevier databases. The key words used in the searches were as
follows: ("periimplantitis" OR "peri-implantitis" OR "mucositis") AND ("low-level
laser therapy (LLLT)" OR "photobiomodulation therapy") AND ("clinical" OR "in
vivo" OR human) or ("CO2" OR "DIODE" OR "ER: YAG" OR "ND:YAG" OR
ER,CR:YSGG") AND (Peri-implantitis OR mucositis)
Results:
A total of 2958 studies were analyzed after searching with keyword combination.
A total of 951 duplicates were removed. After a first reading of the title and
abstract 1923 publications were removed. In a second reading the full text of 84
articles was analyzed by 2 independent researchers (JM and GF), at this point
77 articles were excluded from the review, only 7 were chosen to be part of the
review this selection was determined based on the exclusion and inclusion criteria
Conclusion:
Based on the limited evidence currently available, we cannot establish any
conclusion per se due to the existing heterogeneity and the small number of
included trials which was a problem within the scope of this review. Laser
treatment has been shown to have benefits, but it remains a major question
whether there is potential for its use in the treatment of peri-implant diseases
