    This article discuses the character value of two kings, they are king Durpragi inBabad Surapati and prince Adipati Pakualaman in Babad Pakualaman. Story BabadSurapati tells about the war betwoon nederland versus Indonesia (Javanese). But BabadPakualaman tells about three children get message from their father in order not toarrogate the authority in the kingdom. In Babad Surapati and Babad Pakualaman havecharacter value that one of king can be imitated for our life. So the character value in bothtwo figures can be imitated by community. So the good of this research is to know thecharacter value for king Durpragi in Babad Surapati story and prince Adipati Pakualamanin Babad Pakualaman. It is hoped that this character value can be inspiration for nextgeneration. By using a qualitative descriptive method according to Creswell and a notetaking technique to analyze the character value of two kings. Babad Surapati menceritakan tentang peperangan antar kubu Belandadengan kubu Indonesia (Jawa). Sedangkan Babad Pakualaman menceritakan tentang tigaanak yang dapat wasiyat dari bapaknya untuk tidak boleh berebut mengenai kekuasaan.Dalam Babad Surapati dan Babad Pakualaman terdapat nilai karakter salah satu raja yangdapat dicontoh dalam kehidupan. Oleh karena itu, nilai karakter yang terdapat pada duatokoh tersebut perlu untuk diteladani oleh masyarakat luas. Untuk itu, tujuan daripenelitian ini yaitu untuk mengungkap nilai karakter yang terdapat pada Raja Durparagidalam Naskah Babad Surapati dan nilai karakter Pangeran Adipati Pakualaman dalamNaskah Babad Pakualaman agar dapat dijadikan pedoman kehidupan bagi generasi penerusbangsa. Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif menurut Creswell dan tekniksimak catat untuk menganalisis nilai karakter dua raja tersebut. Nilai karakter yang terdapat pada kedua tokoh tersebut antara lain adalah 1) Bertanggung Jawab; 2) pemberani,3) mudah bergaul, 4) berbakti, dan 5) pintar.Kata Kunci : Nilai Karakter, Babad Surapati, Babad Pakualama

    ILLOCUTIONARY ACT IN THE MAIN CHARACTERS’ UTTERANCES IN MIRROR MIRROR MOVIE

    ABSTRACT The aims of this research were to find out the types of illocutionary act of the main characters’ utterances in Mirror Mirror movie by Searle’s theory of illocutionary act and to find the context underlying illocutionary act of the main characters by Hymes’ SPEAKING model in Mirror Mirror movie. This research was descriptive qualitative because the data were the utterances of the characters in the Mirror Mirror movie. There were some steps in collecting the data: downloading the movie script, watching the movie several times, reading and observing the dialogue in the movie and selecting Queen and Snow White’s utterances that contain illocutionary act. In the data analysis, the researcher applied Miles and Huberman’s procedures namely data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the research show that there are 55 utterances of the main characters that contain illocutionary act. The data were classified into five namely are representatives (4), directives (37), declaratives (0), commissives (2), expressives (12). Of the total 55 illocutionary acts, directives are the most frequent types of illocutionary act because the main characters mostly expressed their utterances in direct way such as by ordering, requesting, asking and commanding. Conversely, the declarative types of illocutionary act were not appeared in this research because the characters that performed the utterance that contain illocutionary act were not selected as the object to analyze. There were eight factors affecting the illocutionary act of the main characters using the context of Hymes’ SPEAKING model. They are setting, participants, ends, act, sequences, key, instrumentalities and genre. Keywords: Speech Act, Illocutionary Act, SPEAKING model by Hymes,Mirror Mirror Movie  ABSTRAK  Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari jenis-jenis tindak ilokusi pada tuturan tokoh-tokoh utama dalam film Mirror-Mirror menggunakan teori dari Searle dan untuk menemukan konteks pada tindak ilokusi tokoh-tokoh utama menggunakan SPEAKING model dari Hymes. Penelitian ini merupakan deskriptif kualitatif karena data berupa tuturan tokoh-tokoh di film Mirror Mirror. Ada beberapa langkah dalam mengumpulkan data: mengunggah naskah film, menonton film beberapa kali, membaca dan meneliti percakapan didalam film dan memilih tuturan Snow White dan Queen yang mengandung tindak ilokusi. Didalam data analysis, peneliti menerapkan prosedur Miles dan Huberman yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, verifikasi/ penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada 55 tuturan tokoh-tokoh utama yang mengandung tindak ilokusi. Data diklasifikasikan menjadi lima yaitu representatives (4), directives (37), declaratives (0), commissives (2), expressives (12). Dari total 55 tindak ilokusi, directives adalah jenis tindak ilokusi yang paling sering muncul karena tokoh-tokoh utama sebagian besar mengekspresikan tuturan mereka secara langsung seperti memesan, meminta, bertanya dan menyuruh. Sebaliknya, tindak ilokusi declaratives tidak muncul dalam penelitian ini karena tokoh-tokoh yang melakukan tuturan yang mengandung tindak ilokusi tidak dipilih sebagai objek untuk dianalysis. Ada delapan faktor yang mempengaruhi tindak ilokusi menggunakan teori konteks SPEAKING dari Hymes. The implementation of character education has been started since young children with the use of print media such as books and electronics such as mobile phones and television, the methods used, among others, habituation, advice, motivation and punishment, the evaluation is also given by the family in Kampung Padas. The success of character education family teach rated quite well evidenced by children who are already able to carry out the duties and responsibilities of their own. This study uses a qualitative method in which data collection using the method of observation, interview and documentation as well as supported by an opinion from the experts

    'Offensive' snakes: cultural beliefs and practices related to snakebites in a Brazilian rural settlement

    This paper records the meaning of the term 'offense' and the folk knowledge related to local beliefs and practices of folk medicine that prevent and treat snake bites, as well as the implications for the conservation of snakes in the county of Pedra Branca, Bahia State, Brazil. The data was recorded from September to November 2006 by means of open-ended interviews performed with 74 individuals of both genders, whose ages ranged from 4 to 89 years old. The results show that the local terms biting, stinging and pricking are synonymous and used as equivalent to offending. All these terms mean to attack. A total of 23 types of 'snakes' were recorded, based on their local names. Four of them are Viperidae, which were considered the most dangerous to humans, besides causing more aversion and fear in the population. In general, local people have strong negative behavior towards snakes, killing them whenever possible. Until the antivenom was present and available, the locals used only charms, prayers and homemade remedies to treat or protect themselves and others from snake bites. Nowadays, people do not pay attention to these things because, basically, the antivenom is now easily obtained at regional hospitals. It is understood that the ethnozoological knowledge, customs and popular practices of the Pedra Branca inhabitants result in a valuable cultural resource which should be considered in every discussion regarding public health, sanitation and practices of traditional medicine, as well as in faunistic studies and conservation strategies for local biological diversity

    The study aims to understand the students' learning motivation at Class V of the Indonesiancourse by applying a Cooperative Script strategy with comic media. It was aclass action research. The population included all the 17 students of the Class V at SDNegeri II Gedong Primary School. It consisted of two cycles. The data collection employedobservation and documentation. The technique of data analysis used a qualitativemethod with an interactive model, including data reduction, display data, and conclusion.The indicators were summarizing, listening, speaking, and expressing opinions.The class action research would be said to be successful if it met 80% of the indicatorsand 80% of the students achieved the KKM. The results of the study were summarizingat the early condition of 90.98%, cycle I of 74.51%, cycle II of 88.24%; listening at theearly condition of 50.98%, cycle I of 72.54%, cycle II of 90.20%; speaking at the earlycondition of 45.09%, cycle I of 64.71%, cycle II of 80.39%; and giving opinions at theearly condition of 43.20%, cycle I at 49.02%, cycle II of 80.39%. At the early condition,the students who achieved the KKM amounted to 9 people, at cycle I of 11 students, andat cycle II of 17 students (or 100%). At the cycle II, the students' motivation had achievedthe indicators. It could be concluded that applying a cooperative script strategy withcomic media could increase the students' Indonesian course

    PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA KOMIK AKSARA JAWA UNTUK SISWA KELAS V SEKOLAH DASAR

    Pengembangan media komik aksara Jawa dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya kurangnya media yang membuat peserta didik tertarik untuk mempelajari materi aksara Jawa. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah Bagaimana pengembangan media komik aksara jawa untuk siswa kelas V Sekolah Dasar?, adapun tujuannya adalah untuk mengetahui pengembangan media komik aksara jawa untuk siswa kelas V sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metodologi penelitian research and development (R&D) dari borg anda gall, yang terdiri dari 10 langkah, namun karena adanya keterbatasa waktu, tenaga dan biaya dalam penelitian ini hanya sampai langkah 4 yaitu pada tahap uji coba yang dilakukan di SD Negeri Telukawur. Hasil analisis validasi mendapatkan hasil rata-rata 4,8 untuk validasi materi dan 4,76 untuk validasi media dalam kategori sangat baik atau layak digunakan. Komik aksara Jawa dapat diterima oleh guru dengan rata-rata 4,93 dan peserta didik dengan rata-rata 4,22 atau dalam kategori sangat baik. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini adalah pengembangan media komik aksara Jawa layak digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran setelah melewati tahap-tahap pengembangan dari borg and gall dan dapat diterima dengan baik oleh guru dan peserta didik. Dari hasil uji coba tersebut media komik aksara Jawa yang dicetak dalam bentuk buku layak untuk digunakan dalam pembelajaran bahasa Jawa
