EXPLORING FORMAL DEMENTIA CARE AMONG FIRST NATIONS IN SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO: A GROUNDED THEORY STUDY
This research aimed to understand how formal dementia care is being provided to First Nations communities. This was achieved by conducting in-depth interviews with healthcare providers and then qualitatively analyzing the data using a constructivist grounded theory approach. Results indicated that numerous barriers impede dementia care delivery, including lacking resources, difficulties collaborating among healthcare providers, encountering mistrust, and persons with dementia (PWD) not accessing care. However, numerous care strategies were identified, many of which serve to directly overcome these barriers. Many aspects of care delivery hinged upon effective knowledge sharing between healthcare providers, PWD, informal care providers, and the First Nations community. Future research needs to incorporate the perspectives of First Nations PWD and their informal care providers, to broaden our understanding of this process. Going forward, healthcare providers and administrators should focus on creating a body of First Nations-specific dementia care literature and other culturally appropriate care resources
Optical Structure and Proper-Motion Age of the Oxygen-rich Supernova Remnant 1E 0102-7219 in the Small Magellanic Cloud
We present new optical emission-line images of the young SNR 1E 0102-7219
(E0102) in the SMC obtained with the HST Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS).
E0102 is a member of the oxygen-rich class of SNRs showing strong oxygen, neon
, and other metal-line emissions in its optical and X-ray spectra, and an
absence of H and He. The progenitor of E0102 may have been a Wolf-Rayet star
that underwent considerable mass loss prior to exploding as a Type Ib/c or
IIL/b SN. The ejecta in this SNR are fast-moving (V > 1000 km/s) and emit as
they are compressed and heated in the reverse shock. In 2003, we obtained
optical [O III], H-alpha, and continuum images with the ACS Wide Field Camera.
The [O III] image captures the full velocity range of the ejecta, and shows
considerable high-velocity emission projected in the middle of the SNR that was
Doppler-shifted out of the narrow F502N bandpass of a previous Wide Field and
Planetary Camera 2 image from 1995. Using these two epochs separated by ~8.5
years, we measure the transverse expansion of the ejecta around the outer rim
in this SNR for the first time at visible wavelengths. From proper-motion
measurements of 12 ejecta filaments, we estimate a mean expansion velocity for
the bright ejecta of ~2000 km/s and an inferred kinematic age for the SNR of
\~2050 +/- 600 years. The age we derive from HST data is about twice that
inferred by Hughes et al.(2000) from X-ray data, though our 1-sigma error bars
overlap. Our proper-motion age is consistent with an independent optical
kinematic age derived by Eriksen et al.(2003) using spatially resolved [O III]
radial-velocity data. We derive an expansion center that lies very close to
X-ray and radio hotspots, which could indicate the presence of a compact

A New Population of High Redshift, Dusty Lyman-Alpha Emitters and Blobs Discovered by WISE
We report a new technique to select 1.6<z<4.6 dusty Lyman-alpha emitters
(LAEs), over a third of which are `blobs' (LABs) with emission extended on
scales of 30-100kpc. Combining data from the NASA Wide-field Infrared Survey
Explorer (WISE) mission with optical spectroscopy from the W.M. Keck telescope,
we present a color criteria that yields a 78% success rate in identifying rare,
dusty LAEs of which at least 37% are LABs. The objects have a surface density
of only ~0.1 per square degree, making them rare enough that they have been
largely missed in narrow surveys. We measured spectroscopic redshifts for 92 of
these WISE-selected, typically radio-quiet galaxies and find that the LAEs
(LABs) have a median redshift of 2.3 (2.5). The WISE photometry coupled with
data from Herschel reveals that these galaxies have extreme far-infrared
luminosities (L_IR>10^{13-14}L_sun) and warm colors, typically larger than
submillimeter-selected galaxies (SMGs) and dust-obscured galaxies (DOGs). These
traits are commonly associated with the dust being energized by intense AGN
activity. We hypothesize that the combination of spatially extended
Lyman-alpha, large amounts of warm IR-luminous dust, and rarity (implying a
short-lived phase) can be explained if the galaxies are undergoing strong

Differences in consumer use of food labels by weight loss strategies and demographic characteristics
The expression of monocarboxylate transporters in thyroid carcinoma can be associated with the morphological features of BRAF (V600E) mutation
BRAF (V600E) mutation, usually performed by DNA techniques, is one of the most common diagnostic markers in papillary thyroid carcinoma. Few papers have demonstrated that plump cells (eosinophilic cytoplasms and papillary thyroid carcinoma nuclei) and peculiar sickle-shaped nuclei represent morphological features of BRAF (V600E) on papillary thyroid carcinomas. These features seem to be linked to glycolytic phenotype whereby monocarboxylate transporters 1-4 are hypothesized to have a dominant role as lactate transporters. We investigated the association between these morphological features and monocarboxylate transporters 1 and 4 in 48 cyto-histological samples diagnosed as "positive for malignancy-favoring papillary thyroid carcinoma". These cases were processed with liquid-based cytology and underwent BRAF (V600E) mutational analysis (pyrosequencing) on liquid-based cytology and monocarboxylate transporters immunostaining on histology. The expression of monocarboxylate transporter 1, monocarboxylate transporter 4, glucose trasporter-1 and carbonic anhidrase were scored semi-quantitatively with expression from 0 to 3+ (strong positivity). The 33 mutated and 15 wild type cases showed 100 % cyto-histological concordance. The cytological evaluation revealed plump cells and sickle nuclear shape in 100 % mutated cases. Monocarboxylate transporter 1 yielded 76 % positivity in the mutated cases especially in both the plump cells and sickle-shaped nuclei, whereas the wild types showed 13.3 % positive monocarboxylate transporter 1 (p = 0.00013). Monocarboxylate transporter 4 resulted in 100 % positivity in mutated and 40 % in wild types (p 0.05). This is the first report analyzing the association between monocarboxylate transporter expression and the morphological features of BRAF (V600E) mutated papillary thyroid carcinomas suggesting the possible involvement of lactate in the morphological features.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Near-infrared emission line diagnostics for AGN from the local Universe to redshift 3
Optical rest-frame spectroscopic diagnostics are usually employed to
distinguish between star formation and AGN-powered emission. However, this
method is biased against dusty sources, hampering a complete census of the AGN
population across cosmic epochs. To mitigate this effect, it is crucial to
observe at longer wavelengths in the rest-frame near-infrared (near-IR), which
is less affected by dust attenuation and can thus provide a better description
of the intrinsic properties of galaxies. AGN diagnostics in this regime have
not been fully exploited so far, due to the scarcity of near-IR observations of
both AGNs and star-forming galaxies, especially at redshifts higher than 0.5.
Using Cloudy photoionization models, we identify new AGN - star formation
diagnostics based on the ratio of bright near-infrared emission lines, namely
[SIII] 9530 Angstrom, [CI] 9850 Angstrom, [PII] 1.188 , [FeII] , and [FeII] to Paschen lines (either Pa or
Pa), providing simple, analytical classification criteria. We apply
these diagnostics to a sample of 64 star-forming galaxies and AGNs at 0 < z <
1, and 65 sources at 1 < z < 3 recently observed with JWST-NIRSpec in CEERS. We
find that the classification inferred from the near-infrared is broadly
consistent with the optical one based on the BPT and the [SII]/H ratio.
However, in the near-infrared, we find more AGNs than in the
optical (13 instead of 8), with 5 sources classified as 'hidden' AGNs, showing
a larger AGN contribution at longer wavelengths, possibly due to the presence
of optically thick dust. The diagnostics we present provide a promising tool to
find and characterize AGNs from z=0 to z=3 with low and medium-resolution

Functional neurological disorder is a feminist issue
Functional neurological disorder (FND) is a common and disabling disorder, often misunderstood by clinicians. Although viewed sceptically by some, FND is a diagnosis that can be made accurately, based on positive clinical signs, with clinical features that have remained stable for over 100 years. Despite some progress in the last decade, people with FND continue to suffer subtle and overt forms of discrimination by clinicians, researchers and the public. There is abundant evidence that disorders perceived as primarily affecting women are neglected in healthcare and medical research, and the course of FND mirrors this neglect. We outline the reasons why FND is a feminist issue, incorporating historical and contemporary clinical, research and social perspectives. We call for parity for FND in medical education, research and clinical service development so that people affected by FND can receive the care they need
