Democratic theories of copyright, in the formulation given by their contemporary advocates, are normatively ambiguous. To solve this issue, an alternative version of these theories, based on the work of Kant and Hegel, is presented. The work has the following structure: (i) the work of three key contemporary advocates of democratic theories is reviewed. Next, (ii) it will be argued that, despite its many strengths, their work suffers from ambiguity in its normative foundations. To solve this problem, (iii) Kant’s and Hegel’s work is addressed with the aim of presenting a non-consequentialist democratic theory of Copyright.

The genus Gromphas Brullé (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) comprises four species, of which G. aeruginosa (Perty) and G. amazonica Bates are known to occur in Peru. This paper presents a revised description of Gromphas as well as illustrated diagnoses and distributional and ecological data on the Peruvian species

Development and evaluation of a dynamically scaled testbed aircraft for a visual inertial odometry dataset

In this thesis we describe the design, manufacturing, and testing of a dynamically scaled aircraft, which is a scaled model of a general aviation vehicle that dynamically behaves in a similar manner as the full-scale aircraft. This scaled model (Cirrus SR22T) is to serve as a testbed for both Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) aircraft research and for Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) research. The aircraft is used as a baseline to compare with the DEP aircraft, to draw conclusion regarding the effect of changing to a DEP configuration, and to provide a way to measure the effect that a DEP configuration would have on a full-scale aircraft. The aircraft is also used to collect data from various onboard sensors to provide a data set for the VIO research community to use

A genome-wide survey of Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) genes and their paralogues in zebrafish

BACKGROUND: The genomic organisation of the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) varies greatly between different vertebrates. In mammals, the classical MHC consists of a large number of linked genes (e.g. greater than 200 in humans) with predominantly immune function. In some birds, it consists of only a small number of linked MHC core genes (e.g. smaller than 20 in chickens) forming a minimal essential MHC and, in fish, the MHC consists of a so far unknown number of genes including non-linked MHC core genes. Here we report a survey of MHC genes and their paralogues in the zebrafish genome. RESULTS: Using sequence similarity searches against the zebrafish draft genome assembly (Zv4, September 2004), 149 putative MHC gene loci and their paralogues have been identified. Of these, 41 map to chromosome 19 while the remaining loci are spread across essentially all chromosomes. Despite the fragmentation, a set of MHC core genes involved in peptide transport, loading and presentation are still found in a single linkage group. CONCLUSION: The results extend the linkage information of MHC core genes on zebrafish chromosome 19 and show the distribution of the remaining MHC genes and their paralogues to be genome-wide. Although based on a draft genome assembly, this survey demonstrates an essentially fragmented MHC in zebrafish

Information Privacy Opinions on Twitter: A Cross-Language Study

The Cambridge Analytica scandal triggered a conversation on Twitter about data practices and their implications. Our research proposes to leverage this conversation to extend the understanding of how information privacy is framed by users worldwide. We collected tweets about the scandal written in Spanish and English between April and July 2018. We created a word embedding to create a reduced multi-dimensional representation of the tweets in each language. For each embedding, we conducted open coding to characterize the semantic contexts of key concepts: "information", "privacy", "company" and "users" (and their Spanish translations). Through a comparative analysis, we found a broader emphasis on privacy-related words associated with companies in English. We also identified more terms related to data collection in English and fewer associated with security mechanisms, control, and risks. Our findings hint at the potential of cross-language comparisons of text to extend the understanding of worldwide differences in information privacy perspectives.Comment: Proceeding CSCW '19: Conference Companion Publication of the 2019 on Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computin
