Biomarkers and aspects in acute stroke
© This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License. In the last decades there was a surge of research on serum haematological, biochemical and immunological biomarkers in stroke, which unfortunately has not yet translated into clinical practice. Serum biomarkers can theoretically be useful for the diagnosis, prognosis, and understanding of the pathophysiology and eventually for the selection of treatments in stroke care. Ideally a biomarker or a set of biomarkers can identify a stroke, in the prehospital setting, prior to neuroimaging, similarly to what is done for myocardial infarction. Several other molecules can be useful biomarkers of recanalization and reperfusion, of opening of collaterals, of the several steps of the ischemic cascade and of the early neuroinflammatory and neuroregenerative response. Inflammatory molecules might become both biomarkers and therapeutic targets for stroke management.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Improving outcomes and decreasing costs of neurological diseases : mind the gap
© 2020 European Academy of NeurologyNeurological disorders are the leading cause of disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) and the second leading cause of deaths. The four main contributors to neurological DALYs are stroke, migraine, dementia, and meningitis. Global and regional actions to decrease this burden are urgently needed. To appropriately set priorities and allocate resources for such actions, political leaders need to be informed by epidemiological and health economic studies.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
ABSTRACT: This paper reflects part of a broader investigation on the
development of methodologies to identify, value and manage design
capabilities in order to create a sustainable competitive advantage. With
the automotive industry and smaller supplier Portuguese companies as
background, this paper explores the resource-based view theory (RBV)
and the dynamic capabilities theory as a theoretical construct for a
further development of research tools.
In the automotive industry, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers)
continue to control the overall design of the vehicle, as part of the ability
to manage the offer portfolio and brand communication. However, the
industry have been moving towards an increasing participation of smaller
suppliers in product development processes, pushed towards capabilities’
development as a requirement to continue competitive in the OEM’s
suppliers network.
The role of design and design management capabilities have been
explored as strategic resources or core competencies. However, Design is
not typically found in smaller supplier firms as resource (as opposed to
Design studios in larger companies) but found as a process in resourcecapability
combinations, establishing the need for a new research
approach. Therefore, the RBV is a tool to value the design process as a
sustained competitive advantage. The RBV conceptualizes a framework
to determine or identify the strategic resources available or needed
within a company. At these lenses, the basis for a sustainable competitive
advantage lies in the application of the bundle of valuable resources
identified and at the firm's disposal and the combinations with its
No entanto, o

In this dissertation we are going to simulate the dynamic behavior of a reinforced concrete plate by applying the Finite Element Method with the FreeFEM++ program. Thus we study and analyze the numerical solution of a tridimensional Linear Elastic problem by FreeFEM++. We take attention to the mathematical model based on the fundamental equations of the Theory of Linear Elasticity: the Compatibility Equations, the Equilibrium Equations and the Constitutive laws. For the dynamic problem we take a numerical method by Direct Integration to obtain the displacement over time. For this, the Newmark Method and the Euler Method have been chosen, the first one by its popularity, and the other one by its simplicity. All the results, obtained by the FreeFEM++, are compared to SAP2000 results and to Analytical Solutions, when possible
How tourists perceive two island destinations with identical culture, but different demographic characteristics, through social networking sites?: the case of Madeira and Bermuda
This thesis is focused and aimed at exploring how tourists perceive two island
destinations with identical culture, but different demographic characteristics, through Social
Networking Sites. The islands of Madeira and Bermuda were chosen as the ones to be studied.
In order to provide a trustful answer, it was conducted two different methodologies
that complete each other: Netnography and Text Mining. Eight codings were used when
creating the database, based on the literature studied: Rating, Categories, Membership Level
of reviewers, Language type, Tourism Experience Model, Content, Symbology and
Positive/Negative information. In the first methodology, all of these codings were studied,
while in the Text Mining one, only three were considered: TEM, ML and categories.
The database was created after an extensive extraction process, which included in the
end 1783 reviews – 1148 from Madeira and 635 from Bermuda, extracted from the
TripAdvisor platform regarding August of 2017.
The results indicate an overall positive customer satisfaction regarding both islands,
but slightly superior in the Madeira’s case. The reviewers were, globally, low ranked
reviewers and their favorite type of language was literal (vs figurative). The negative content
was similar in both cases and the positive one as well. Based on the literature it was perceived
that the reviews extracted are capable of persuading readers, and increase their booking
intention. Also, both islands were perceived as destinations where tourists are able, through
Recreational Activities, to get closer with their existential being. Lifestyle and Leisure and
Tourism, Travel and Commuting were the main themes found to being mentioned by the
reviewers. It was perceived that reviewers from Madeira can highly influence potential
tourists into becoming real ones, in comparison with Bermuda. In both cases, reviewers were
found to be engaged with the destinations, and the “re-purchase” scenario is highly probableO objectivo desta tese é explorar de que forma o turista percebe dois destinos insulares
"Lifestyle
Unraveling oscillations at ferro(para)magnetic and non-collinear antiferromagnetic interfaces
Here, we show that the ferro(para)magnetic and non-collinear
antiferromagnetic interfaces contribute to oscillating signals observed in the
magnetoresistance. We associate the effect with the fact that the spins on the
surface of IrMn3 produce instability in the surface magnetoresistance of the
material, which is sensitive to the magnetic field. We carried out experiments
using bilayers of IrMn3 under permalloy (Py) and IrMn3 under platinum (Pt). The
oscillations were intensely evident at the Py/IrMn3 interface and less explicit
at the Pt/IrMn3 interface. We carried out the experiments using pulsed current,
with a square pulse width of 1{\mu}s and amplitudes of 20 {\mu}A to 20 mA. The
oscillating signals are proportional to the crystallographic direction of the
material, the ferromagnetism of the material adjacent to IrMn3, and sensitive
to the amplitude of the pulsed current. We believe that observation is a way of
transmitting encoded information through magnetoresistance
