Informe especial de estabilidad financiera: liquidez de mercado - Primer semestre de 2021

    Get PDF

A Pilot Binational Study of Health Behaviors and Immigration

In the US, Mexican immigrant women often have better health outcomes than non-Hispanic white women despite a greater health risk profile. This cross-sectional pilot study compared women living in Chavinda, Michoacán (n = 102) to women who had migrated from Mexico to Madera, California (n = 93). The interview gathered information on acculturation and risk behaviors including smoking, alcohol use and number of sexual partners. The results suggest that more acculturated women living in the US are more likely to consume alcohol. US residence and higher acculturation level was marginally associated with having more than one sexual partner. There were no differences between odds of smoking among Chavinda and Madera women. While results with acculturation are not consistently significant due to small sample sizes, the results are suggestive that acculturation among immigrant Hispanic women in the US may be associated with adverse health behaviors, and selective migration seems less likely to account for these differences

Póster presentado en la Conferencia Española de Nanofotónica (CEN2012), celebrada en Carmona (Sevilla) del 1 al 4 de octubre de 2012.Magnetoplasmonics deals with the study of systems where the plasmonic and magneto-optical (MO) properties coexist and show a distinct interaction between them. In this kind of systems, the plasmonic properties can become tunable upon application of a magnetic field, or the MO effects can be largely increased by plasmon resonance excitation, as a consequence of the enhancement of the electromagnetic (EM) field in the MO component of the structure. The study of the enhanced MO activity in structures with subwavelength dimensions is especially interesting since they may be viewed as nanoantennas in the visible range with MO functionalities. The light harvesting properties of these systems upon plasmon resonance excitation brings as a consequence an enhanced EM field in its interior, and more interestingly in the region where the MO active component is present. In fact, it has been recently demonstrated that the MO enhancement can be directly linked with the amount of EM field inside the MO layer, in such a way that this layer can be used as a probe to determine the EM field distribution inside a nanostructure. Therefore, optimizing the EM field distribution within the structure by maximizing it in the MO regions while simultaneously minimizing it in all the other, non MO active, lossy components, will allow for the development of novel systems with larger MO activity and reduced optical absorption, becoming an alternative to state of the art dielectric MO materials, like garnets. Here we will present our approach to face this problem, based on the insertion of a dielectric layer in Au/Co/Au magnetoplasmonic nanodisks. The resulting nanostructure consists of two metallic nanodisks coupled through the dielectric layer, with one of the nanodisk being purely Au and the other one Au/Co (see Figure 1(a)). This kind of systems presents two hybridized localized plasmon resonance modes, showing two peaks in both the extinction and the MO spectra (see Figure 1(b)). Moreover, the EM field inside the nanostructure is strongly redistributed, being strongly concentrated in the nanodisk composed only of pure noble metal (Figure 1(c)). By optimizing the internal architecture (position of the Co layer), a configuration where the system exhibits large MO activity and low optical extinction in the same wavelength range can be obtained, as it can be seen in the right side of Figure 1(b) for the high wavelength peak.Peer Reviewe

Nitazoxanide as an early treatment to reduce the intensity of COVID‑19 outbreaks among health personnel

The use of nitazoxanide has previously yielded successful results in vitro against the coronavirus. The aim of the present study was to examine the efficacy of the use of nitazoxanide at an early stage among healthcare workers exhibiting symptoms of COVID‑19. This was a prospective study carried out in 2020. Healthcare personnel who presented with COVID‑19 symptoms, in different 3 hospitals were invited to take Paramix (nitazoxanide), 500 mg orally, every 6 h for 2 days and then 500 mg twice a day for 4 days. To compare the hospitalization percentage, a group of healthcare workers with a respiratory viral infection without COVID‑19 criteria were also followed‑up. Over a period of 3 months, 150 healthcare workers (111 women and 39 men) presented respiratory symptoms with COVID‑19 criteria (mean age, 36±10.6 years; range, 18‑68 years). Only one female medical doctor, one nurse and one male from the auxiliary services had to be hospitalized and one death was registered It was thus concluded that nitazoxanide yielded successful results in vitro against previous coronavirus and may prove to be useful against SARS‑CoV‑2 as an early intervention to avoid complications, decreasing the expected number of hospitalizations among infected healthcare workers.Liomont Laboratories S.A. de C.V. kindly provided the drug Paramix (nitazoxanide

Simulation of electron transport and secondary emission in a photomultiplier tube and experimental validation

[EN] The electron amplification and transport within a photomultiplier tube (PMT) has been investigated by developing an in-house Monte Carlo simulation code. The secondary electron emission in the dynodes is implemented via an effective electron model and the Modified Vaughan¿s model, whereas the transport is computed with the Boris leapfrog algorithm. The PMT gain, rise time and transit time have been studied as a function of supply voltage and external magnetostatic field. A good agreement with experimental measurements using a Hamamatsu R13408-100 PMT was obtained. The simulations have been conducted following different treatments of the underlying geometry: three-dimensional, two-dimensional and intermediate (2.5D). The validity of these approaches is compared. The developed framework will help in understanding the behavior of PMTs under highly intense and irregular illumination or varying external magnetic fields, as in the case of prompt gamma-ray measurements during pencil-beam proton therapy; and aid in optimizing the design of voltage dividers with behavioral circuit models. This work was supported by Conselleria de Educación, Investigación, Cultura y Deporte (Generalitat Valenciana) under grant numbers CDEIGENT/2019/011 and CDEIGENT/2021/012. This work presents an innovative education experience for engineering students, with the objective of connecting students to labor market, in the context of the regular subject practices, with the analysis of real cases of companies, and using as tools the ICTs and the flipped learning methodology. The assessment of the impact of this innovation education action consisted on the creation of data bases, and the organization of lecturers´ panels, and surveys for students and teachers. The most outstanding drawback raised by teachers was the lack of alignment between the companies’ needs and the curricula of the students. The students appreciated this kind of activity in the subject practices. The students also considered positive the use of ICTs as part of this innovative teaching-learning process, which are familiar technologies for them. According to the teachers, the action contributed to improve autonomous and collaborative teaching in Higher Education

The medical model has put aside the paternalistic relationship between physician and patient to give way to the patient-centered model, where the patient occupies an active role in their health care, so the establishment of adequate communication becomes relevant. Assertiveness is a tool that favors effective communication and is also capable of being trained. Effective communication between the health professional and pregnant women is a key element for the optimal delivery of obstetric care. Objective: To analyze the psychometric properties of the Scale of Assertivity of Patients-Medical Personnel (SAPMP) in pregnant Mexican women. Method: 716 pregnant women aged between 13 and 46 years (M = 26.55; SD = 6.56) were recruited, who answered an identification form and the SAPMP. The construct validity of the SAPMP was assessed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Its internal consistency was determined by calculating Cronbach's α and McDonald's ω. Results: The validation of the SAPMP with Mexican pregnant women detected that it has a bifactorial structure, with uncorrelated factors, each one with an internal consistency from acceptable to very high, which together explain 64% of the variance. The two factors showed adequate discriminant validity, although the internal convergent validity was unacceptable. The internal consistency of the No assertiveness factor indicates the redundancy of some of its items. Conclusions: The SAPMP validated in pregnant Mexican women has adequate psychometric properties to evaluate assertive communication between the physician and the woman user of obstetrical-gynecological care services. However, new studies must be carried out in order to address the problem of internal convergent validity detected, as well as internal consistency for the No assertiveness factor.
