Psychological assessment in high ability and excellence

    Get PDF
This paper aims to discuss the conditions for psychological assessment of high ability and excellence. These constructs relate to the different realities in terms of psychological dimensions that define them, but their evaluation should be guided by criteria of reliability and validity. If the high ability dominates the internal variables and those appeals to psychological tests, contextual factors converge on the excellence of learning, training and performance, appealing to the interviews, life histories and observation of performance. A main purpose of psychological assessment of high ability and excellence, trying to identify such individuals is to avoid false positives and false negatives in such diagnoses, considering the negative impact that such an assessment can have on the lives of these individuals, as well as an appropriate and necessary guidance. In addition, procedures for assessment and subsequent collection of information, can generate more focused and oriented stimulation programs that support the specific needs of talented individuals

This paper describes a study carried out with K-12 students. This study is focused on understanding the motivation of these students on the use of robots in the Project Area curricular unit and to understand whether they want to continue their studies in technology areas. K-12 students participated in the RoboParty® event, where the main task is to assemble and program a robot. In other words, the students, in a simple and entertaining way and guided by qualified tutors, learned how to build a robot. At the end of the academic year, a questionnaire was applied to identify and evaluate the K-12 students' opinions regarding the experience. The students’ reaction to this experience as well to the direct contact with the university environment was quite positive.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT

Project Hi2TRUST—Second generation platform for high-temperature component inspection, (Ref. 3335), supported by Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER), Programa Operacional Regional de Lisboa (Lisb@2020 and Portugal2020). Publisher Copyright: © 2023 by the authors. This paper presents an automated Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) system for the in-service inspection of orbital welds on tubular components operating at temperatures as high as 200 °C. The combination of two different NDT methods and respective inspection systems is here proposed to cover the detection of all potential defective weld conditions. The proposed NDT system combines ultrasounds and Eddy current techniques with dedicated approaches for dealing with high temperature conditions. Phased array ultrasound was employed, searching for volumetric defects within the weld bead volume while Eddy currents were used to look for surface and sub-surface cracks. The results from the phased array ultrasound results showed the effectiveness of the cooling mechanisms and that temperature effects on sound attenuation can be easily compensated for up to 200 °C. The Eddy current results showed almost no influence when temperatures were raised up to 300 °C.publishersversionpublishe

Materials from renewable resources: new properties and functions

    Get PDF
Sustainable production requires increasing use of raw materials from renewable sources, processed under mild conditions with minimal effluent production. These requirements are satisfied by using materials derived from biomass, in synergy with food and energy production. The possibilities of biomass are continuously enlarged by new findings, as in the intrinsic nanocomposite properties of natural rubber and the amphiphile behavior of cellulose that translated into new functional materials, including high-performance, flexible and conductive non-metallic materials. Other findings are allowing a better understanding of electrostatic phenomena that play a positive role in electrostatic adhesion and cohesion of nanocomposites made from biomass products. Moreover, this should allow the development of safe electrostatic separation techniques, suitable for the fractionation of crude mixtures of biomass residues. A current study on rubber electrostatics is showing its capabilities as a transducer of mechanical energy while providing clues to understand the performance of the dielectric elastomers used in robotic self-sensing actuators914CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICO - CNPQCOORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DE PESSOAL DE NÍVEL SUPERIOR - CAPESFUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO - FAPESP465452/2014-088887.284776/2018-002014/50906-

Balanço de nutrientes no braço sul do estuário do rio Mondego

    Get PDF

    Leadership model

The Theory of Planned Behavior studies the decision-making mechanisms of individuals. We propose the Nash Equilibria as one, of many, possible mechanisms of transforming human intentions in behavior. This process corresponds to the best strategic individual decision taking in account the collective response. We built a game theoretical model to understand the role of leaders in decision-making of individuals or groups. We study the characteristics of the leaders that can have a positive or negative influence over others behavioral decisions.Previous versions of this work were presented in the International Congress of Mathematicians ICM 2010, the Second Brazilian Workshop of the Game Theory Society in honor of John Nash and EURO 2010, ICDEA 2009 and LAMES 2008.
