A well-balanced finite volume-augmented Lagrangian method for an integrated Herschel-Bulkley model
40 pages. 12 figures.International audienceWe are interested in the derivation of an integrated Herschel-Bulkley model for shallow flows, as well as in the design of a numerical algorithm to solve the resulting equations. The goal is to simulate the evolution of thin sheet of viscoplastic materials on inclined planes and, in particular, to be able to compute the evolution from dynamic to stationary states. The model involves a variational inequality and it is valid from null to moderate slopes. The proposed numerical scheme is well balanced and involves a coupling between a duality technique (to treat plasticity), a fixed point method (to handle the power law) and a finite volume discretization. Several numerical tests are done, including a comparison with an analytical solution, to confirm the well balanced property and the ability to cope with the various rheological regimes associated with the Herschel-Bulkley constitutive law
Sulfide-, fluorite-, barite-bearing siliceous "crusts" related to unconformity surfaces of different ages in Pyrenees and Alps: a new model in carbonate-hosted deposits?
Wumerous stratabound sulfide-, barite-, fluonte-bearing siliceous crusts, from dm to some tens of in thick, occur over large areas of the Alpine belt, ;.e. the Alps and the Pyrenees. They are linked to unconformlty landscapes evolved on various carbonate units of Paieozoic and Triassic sedimentq sequences. Since the study mineralizations constitute the transition between the underlying carbonates and the overlying detrital units, they can be considered as an independent lithostratigraphic units that record a particular metalogenetic process not only in the alpine chains but worldwide. These mineralizations exhibit several morphologies: tabular concordant with the unconfonnities bodies, columnar bodies, karstic cavity-fillings, laminites and veins. In addition, the study deposits are clearly affected by remobilization process occuned during diagenesis or metamorphism. Such processes are responsible for masking the occunence of the breccia/conglomerate typically located at the base of the orebodies.Although the study mineralizations have usually been included in MVT deposit class, constrastirig differences between their diagnostic features and those of MVT mineralizations, suggest that the inclusion of the mineralized crust deposits in the MVT group seem incorrect. These peculiar ore-bearing quartz-crusts, persistent over large areas and showing an independent and distinct character and constituting an important marker for some sedimentary sequences of different ages in Alpine belts, allow the authors to define a new metallogenic model named as "crust-type" (CT) deposits. Comparable mineralization in other geotectonic environments outside Alpine belts point out to CT deposits being a worldwide significant metallogenic event

Distorted Heisenberg Algebra and Coherent States for Isospectral Oscillator Hamiltonians
The dynamical algebra associated to a family of isospectral oscillator
Hamiltonians is studied through the analysis of its representation in the basis
of energy eigenstates. It is shown that this representation becomes similar to
that of the standard Heisenberg algebra, and it is dependent of a parameter
. We name it {\it distorted Heisenberg algebra}, where is the
distortion parameter. The corresponding coherent states for an arbitrary
are derived, and some particular examples are discussed in full detail. A
prescription to produce the squeezing, by adequately selecting the initial
state of the system, is given.Comment: 21 pages, Latex, 3 figures available as hard copies upon request from

Coincidence measurement of residues and light particles in the reaction 56Fe+p at 1 GeV per nucleon with SPALADIN
The spallation of Fe in collisions with hydrogen at 1 A GeV has been
studied in inverse kinematics with the large-aperture setup SPALADIN at GSI.
Coincidences of residues with low-center-of-mass kinetic energy light particles
and fragments have been measured allowing the decomposition of the total
reaction cross-section into the different possible de-excitation channels.
Detailed information on the evolution of these de-excitation channels with
excitation energy has also been obtained. The comparison of the data with
predictions of several de-excitation models coupled to the INCL4 intra-nuclear
cascade model shows that only GEMINI can reasonably account for the bulk of
collected results, indicating that in a light system with no compression and
little angular momentum, multifragmentation might not be necessary to explain
the data.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, revised version accepted in Phys. Rev. Let
Preliminary definitions for the sonographic features of synovitis in children
Objectives Musculoskeletal ultrasonography (US) has the potential to be an important tool in the assessment of disease activity in childhood arthritides. To assess pathology, clear definitions for synovitis need to be developed first. The aim of this study was to develop and validate these definitions through an international consensus process. Methods The decision on which US techniques to use, the components to be included in the definitions as well as the final wording were developed by 31 ultrasound experts in a consensus process. A Likert scale of 1-5 with 1 indicating complete disagreement and 5 complete agreement was used. A minimum of 80% of the experts scoring 4 or 5 was required for final approval. The definitions were then validated on 120 standardized US images of the wrist, MCP and tibiotalar joints displaying various degrees of synovitis at various ages. Results B-Mode and Doppler should be used for assessing synovitis in children. A US definition of the various components (i.e. synovial hypertrophy, effusion and Doppler signal within the synovium) was developed. The definition was validated on still images with a median of 89% (range 80-100) of participants scoring it as 4 or 5 on a Likert scale. Conclusions US definitions of synovitis and its elementary components covering the entire pediatric age range were successfully developed through a Delphi process and validated in a web-based still images exercise. These results provide the basis for the standardized US assessment of synovitis in clinical practice and research
Construction of exact solutions to eigenvalue problems by the asymptotic iteration method
We apply the asymptotic iteration method (AIM) [J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 36,
11807 (2003)] to solve new classes of second-order homogeneous linear
differential equation. In particular, solutions are found for a general class
of eigenvalue problems which includes Schroedinger problems with Coulomb,
harmonic oscillator, or Poeschl-Teller potentials, as well as the special
eigenproblems studied recently by Bender et al [J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 34 9835
(2001)] and generalized in the present paper to higher dimensions.Comment: 10 page
Influence of Malignant Pleural Fluid from Lung Adenocarcinoma Patients on Neutrophil Response
Malignant pleural effusion (MPE) is a common severe complication of advanced lung
adenocarcinoma (LAC). Neutrophils, an essential component of tumor infiltrates, contribute to tumor
progression and their counts in MPE have been associated with worse outcome in LAC. This study
aimed to evaluate phenotypical and functional changes of neutrophils induced by MPE to determine
the influence of MPE immunomodulatory factors in neutrophil response and to find a possible
association between neutrophil functions and clinical outcomes. Pleural fluid samples were collected
from 47 LAC and 25 heart failure (HF) patients. We measured neutrophil degranulation products
by ELISA, oxidative burst capacity and apoptosis by flow cytometry, and NETosis by fluorescence.
The concentration of degranulation products was higher in MPE-LAC than in PE-HF. Functionally,
neutrophils cultured with MPE-LAC had enhanced survival and neutrophil extracellular trap (NET)
formation but had reduced oxidative burst capacity. In MPE, NETosis was positively associated with
MMP-9, P-selectin, and sPD-L1 and clinically related to a worse outcome. This is the first study
associating NETs with a worse outcome in MPE. Neutrophils likely contribute to tumor progression
through the release of NETs, suggesting that they are a potential therapeutic target in LAC
Darboux transformations of coherent states of the time-dependent singular oscillator
Darboux transformation of both Barut-Girardello and Perelomov coherent states
for the time-dependent singular oscillator is studied. In both cases the
measure that realizes the resolution of the identity operator in terms of
coherent states is found and corresponding holomorphic representation is
constructed. For the particular case of a free particle moving with a fixed
value of the angular momentum equal to two it is shown that Barut-Giriardello
coherent states are more localized at the initial time moment while the
Perelomov coherent states are more stable with respect to time evolution. It is
also illustrated that Darboux transformation may keep unchanged this different
time behavior.Comment: 13 page
