Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives and Decarbonization in the European Food Supply Chain
The European Green Deal is a political milestone aiming to promote a carbon-neutral economy in the European Union.
Decarbonizing the complex food sector requires the unified interaction among effective climate policies, economic instruments,and initiatives involving multiple stakeholders. Despite increasing efforts to highlight the importance of innovations and finance to achieve sustainable food supply chains (FSC), comprehensive information about related opportunities and barriers to mitigating emissions in the food sector is still under-explored. To cover this gap, this paper applies an existing industrial policy framework under the lens of the EU FSC to identify potential strategies that should help achieve the needed financial means and innovation actions, as well as to gauge political alignment across FSC stages. Methodologically, the pillars proposed in the framework are linked to multi-stakeholders' initiatives engaged in achieving net-zero emissions. The paper highlights three main implications of the identified interlinkages. First, political directionality related to the food sector should be more comprehensively tailored to account for the specificities of all stages of the FSC. Second, research and development projects shall likewise cover all stages,instead of emphasizing only food production and agricultural systems. Finally, multiple stakeholders are crucial as promoters of technology and innovation towards a green economy. Nevertheless, initiatives should be integrated into political discussions in order to promote civil awareness, sustainable food and services demand, aligned to political guidelines
Reducción de vibraciones en una rectificadora sin centros mediante la utilización de actuadores piezoelectricos
National audienceEn el presente artículo se describe la realización práctica de un sistema de reducción de vibraciones de chatter en una rectificadora sin centros, utilizando actuadores piezoeléctricos. El trabajo presentado complementa aquél de carácter teórico y generalista presentado en la pasada edición de este mismo congreso. Se describe la metodología seguida para la definición del tipo de control a utilizar y los criterios seguidos para definir la localización de los actuadores piezoeléctricos. El trabajo incluye la elaboración de un modelo para reflejar el comportamiento dinámico de la máquina para el rango de frecuencias de interés, dando así pie a la realización de distintas simulaciones que permitieron definir las características que deberían disponer los actuadores disponibles comercialmente. Se ha implementado una estrategia de control activo del amortiguamiento, utilizando controladores de realimentación proporcionales. Se presentan los resultados obtenidos en los ensayos de mecanizado una vez implantado el sistema en la máquina. Se ha conseguido un sistema que permite reducir los picos de resonancia de los modos que causan chatter, lo que causa un importante aumento del umbral de estabilidad de la máquina
Mass-luminosity relation for FGK main sequence stars: metallicity and age contributions
The stellar mass-luminosity relation (MLR) is one of the most famous
empirical "laws", discovered in the beginning of the 20th century. MLR is still
used to estimate stellar masses for nearby stars, particularly for those that
are not binary systems, hence the mass cannot be derived directly from the
observations. It's well known that the MLR has a statistical dispersion which
cannot be explained exclusively due to the observational errors in luminosity
(or mass). It is an intrinsic dispersion caused by the differences in age and
chemical composition from star to star. In this work we discuss the impact of
age and metallicity on the MLR. Using the recent data on mass, luminosity,
metallicity, and age for 26 FGK stars (all members of binary systems, with
observational mass-errors <= 3%), including the Sun, we derive the MLR taking
into account, separately, mass-luminosity, mass-luminosity-metallicity, and
mass-luminosity-metallicity-age. Our results show that the inclusion of age and
metallicity in the MLR, for FGK stars, improves the individual mass estimation

Raman Scattering as a Probe of Charge Nematic Fluctuations in Iron Based Superconductors
International audienceWe report Raman scattering measurement of charge nematic fluctuations in the tetragonal phase of BaFe 2 As 2 and Sr(Fe 1−x Co x) 2 As 2 (x=0.04) single crystals. In both systems, the observed nematic fluctuations are found to exhibit divergent Curie-Weiss like behavior with very similar characteristic temperature scales, indicating a universal tendency towards charge nematic order in 122 iron-based superconductors
Evaluating machine-learning techniques for recruitment forecasting of seven North East Atlantic fish species
The effect of different factors (spawning biomass, environmental conditions) on recruitment is a subject of great importance in the management of fisheries, recovery plans and scenario exploration. In this study, recently proposed supervised classification techniques, tested by the machine-learning community, are applied to forecast the recruitment of seven fish species of North East Atlantic (anchovy, sardine, mackerel, horse mackerel, hake, blue whiting and albacore), using spawning, environmental and climatic data. In addition, the use of the probabilistic flexible naive Bayes classifier (FNBC) is proposed as modelling approach in order to reduce uncertainty for fisheries management purposes. Those improvements aim is to improve probability estimations of each possible outcome (low, medium and high recruitment) based in kernel density estimation, which is crucial for informed management decision making with high uncertainty. Finally, a comparison between goodness-of-fit and generalization power is provided, in order to assess the reliability of the final forecasting models. It is found that in most cases the proposed methodology provides useful information for management whereas the case of horse mackerel is an example of the limitations of the approach. The proposed improvements allow for a better probabilistic estimation of the different scenarios, i.e. to reduce the uncertainty in the provided forecasts
The HARPS search for southern extrasolar planets. XXIII. 8 planetary companions to low-activity solar-type stars
In this paper, we present our HARPS radial-velocity data for eight
low-activity solar-type stars belonging to the HARPS volume-limited sample:
HD6718, HD8535, HD28254, HD290327, HD43197, HD44219, HD148156, and HD156411.
Keplerian fits to these data reveal the presence of low-mass companions around
these targets. With minimum masses ranging from 0.58 to 2.54 MJup, these
companions are in the planetary mass domain. The orbital periods of these
planets range from slightly less than one to almost seven years. The eight
orbits presented in this paper exhibit a wide variety of eccentricities: from

Investigation of the spin-glass regime between the antiferromagnetic and superconducting phases in FeSeTe
Using bulk magnetization along with elastic and inelastic neutron scattering
techniques, we have investigated the phase diagram of
FeSeTe and the nature of magnetic correlations in three
nonsuperconducting samples of FeSeTe,
FeSeTe and FeSeTe. A cusp
and hysteresis in the temperature dependence of the magnetization for the
and 0.3 samples indicates spin-glass (SG) ordering below K. Neutron scattering measurements indicate that the spin-glass behavior is
associated with short-range spin density wave (SDW) ordering characterized by a
static component and a low-energy dynamic component with a characteristic
incommensurate wave vector of and an anisotropy
gap of 2.5 meV. Our high -resolution data also show that the
systems undergo a glassy structural distortion that coincides with the
short-range SDW order
Effect of whey protein purity and glycerol content upon physical properties of edible films manufactured therefrom
This manuscript describes the detailed characterization of edible films made from two different protein products e whey protein isolate (WPI) and whey protein concentrate (WPC), added with three levels of glycerol (Gly) e i.e. 40, 50 and 60%(w/w). The molecular structure, as well as barrier, tensile, thermal,surface and optical properties of said films were determined, in attempts to provide a better understanding of the effects of proteinaceous purity and Gly content of the feedstock. WPI films exhibited statistically lower (p < 0.05) moisture content (MC), film solubility (S), water activity, water vapor permeability (WVP), oxygen and carbon dioxide permeabilities (O2P and CO2P, respectively) and color change values, as well as statistically higher (p < 0.05) density, surface hydrophobicity, mechanical resistance, elasticity, extensibility and transparency values than their WPC counterparts, for the same
content of Gly. These results are consistent with data from thermal and FTIR analyses. Furthermore,a significant increase (p < 0.05) was observed in MC, S, WVP, O2P, CO2P, weight loss and extensibility of
both protein films when the Gly content increased; whereas a significant decrease (p < 0.05) was observed in thermal features, as well as in mechanical resistance and elasticity e thus leading to weaker films. The SOPHIE search for northern extrasolar planets. II. A multi-planet system around HD9446
We report the discovery of a planetary system around HD9446, performed from
radial velocity measurements secured with the spectrograph SOPHIE at the 193-cm
telescope of the Haute-Provence Observatory during more than two years. At
least two planets orbit this G5V, active star: HD9446b has a minimum mass of
0.7 M_Jup and a slightly eccentric orbit with a period of 30 days, whereas
HD9446c has a minimum mass of 1.8 M_Jup and a circular orbit with a period of
193 days. As for most of the known multi-planet systems, the HD9446-system
presents a hierarchical disposition, with a massive outer planet and a lighter
