Abstract: Handicraft is an ancestral production practice, which despite having been reinvented over time, is often put aside in a contemporary context. This happens due to all the technological and production advances, that have developed since the first moments of industrialization. Handicraft is considered a primary form of design, and it's believed that the latter can intervene to make it more sustainable in a contemporary context, in its cultural, social, economic, and environmental aspects. Since currently there are successful examples that work with this type of collaboration and that are presented throughout this dissertation. As a case study, a model of collaboration is proposed, in which all stages of the creative process are developed in collaboration, by a Craftsman and a Designer. The collaboration has a systemic approach, which includes not only the development of the product but also the packaging and graphic image, involving several aspects of design. The main objective is to raise awareness of the value of handicrafts and highlight the importance of this kind of collaboration, to encourage the creation of contemporary products with cultural identity

The principal aim of the study was evidences of the validity offered psicométrica of the Gestáltico Visomotor Bender’s Test (TGV) and the System of Qualification of Gradual Punctuation (B-SPG). In this respect the maturity was appraised visomotora at 108 children of both sexes by ages understood between 6 and 10 years of primary age of mixed colleges of level of Metropolitan Lima and to compare these results with an equal sample (108) of children of the condition of Sao Paulo State in Brazil. Thinking that Bender’s TGV with the B-SPG is a consistent test where all the articles contribute to the test. Significant differences being observed in function to the age where to major minor age number of mistakes and minor total score. This inversely proportional relation between the age and the number of mistakes was described as method to measure the maturity visomotora and was established by Bender in his original study in the year 1955. On the other hand, they did not find significant differences in function to the sex.

Mammals are threatened worldwide, with 26% of all species being includedin the IUCN threatened categories. This overall pattern is primarily associatedwith habitat loss or degradation, and human persecution for terrestrial mam-mals, and pollution, open net fishing, climate change, and prey depletion formarine mammals. Mammals play a key role in maintaining ecosystems func-tionality and resilience, and therefore information on their distribution is cru-cial to delineate and support conservation actions. MAMMALS INPORTUGAL is a publicly available data set compiling unpublishedgeoreferenced occurrence records of 92 terrestrial, volant, and marine mam-mals in mainland Portugal and archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira thatincludes 105,026 data entries between 1873 and 2021 (72% of the data occur-ring in 2000 and 2021). The methods used to collect the data were: live obser-vations/captures (43%), sign surveys (35%), camera trapping (16%),bioacoustics surveys (4%) and radiotracking, and inquiries that represent lessthan 1% of the records. The data set includes 13 types of records: (1) burrowsjsoil moundsjtunnel, (2) capture, (3) colony, (4) dead animaljhairjskullsjjaws, (5) genetic confirmation, (6) inquiries, (7) observation of live animal (8),observation in shelters, (9) photo trappingjvideo, (10) predators dietjpelletsjpine cones/nuts, (11) scatjtrackjditch, (12) telemetry and (13) vocalizationjecholocation. The spatial uncertainty of most records ranges between 0 and100 m (76%). Rodentia (n=31,573) has the highest number of records followedby Chiroptera (n=18,857), Carnivora (n=18,594), Lagomorpha (n=17,496),Cetartiodactyla (n=11,568) and Eulipotyphla (n=7008). The data setincludes records of species classified by the IUCN as threatened(e.g.,Oryctolagus cuniculus[n=12,159],Monachus monachus[n=1,512],andLynx pardinus[n=197]). We believe that this data set may stimulate thepublication of other European countries data sets that would certainly contrib-ute to ecology and conservation-related research, and therefore assisting onthe development of more accurate and tailored conservation managementstrategies for each species.

A seguir, alguns tópicos importantes mereceram tratamento à parte: a fome, o alimento e o domínio religioso, as descobertas européias e a difusão mundial de alimentos, gosto e gastronomia.

Is Europe ready for a results-based approach to fisheries management? The voice of stakeholders

    Get PDF
The reformed Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), adopted by the European Union in 2013, aims to achieve sustainable exploitation of marine resources. Beyond the mainstream of stakeholders' engagement, the literature increasingly calls for shared accountability in fisheries management. In such scenarios, identifying stakeholders' insights becomes critical for a successful design of innovative management approaches. This paper analyses how the stakeholders perceive a results-based management system for four fisheries in different European sea-basins as well as at a pan-European level. The results indicate a need for adaptive and participatory management approaches, building on regional adaptations within transparent and plural frameworks for fisheries. To succeed, the system should explicitly address its associated public and private costs; neither participation nor accountability comes for free. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

Mitochondria-Targeted Photodynamic Therapy with a Galactodendritic Chlorin to Enhance Cell Death in Resistant Bladder Cancer Cells

    No full text
Here, we report the rational design of a new third-generation photosensitizer (PS), a chlorin conjugated with galactodendritic units, ChlGal8, to improve the effectiveness of bladder cancer treatment. ChlGal8 shows better photochemical and photophysical properties than a recently reported homologous porphyrin, PorGal8. In addition to inheriting excellent photostability, the ability to generate singlet oxygen, and the ability to interact with the proteins galectin-1 and human serum albumin (HSA), ChlGal8 exhibits high absorption in the red region of the electromagnetic spectrum. In vitro studies of anticancer activity of ChlGal8 revealed that once this PS is taken up by UM-UC-3 bladder cancer cells, it induces high cytotoxicity after a single dose of light irradiation. In HT-1376 bladder cancer cells resistant to therapy, a second light irradiation treatment enhanced in vitro and in vivo photodynamic efficacy. The enhanced phototoxicity in HT-1376 cancer cells seems to be due to the ability of ChlGal8 to accumulate in the mitochondria, via facilitative glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1), in the period between single and repeated irradiation. A photodynamic therapy (PDT) regimen using an extra dose of light irradiation and ChlGal8 as PS represents a promising strategy in treating resistant cancers in a clinical setting
