BB-anomalies in a twin Pati-Salam theory of flavour including the 2022 LHCb RK()R_{K^{(*)}} analysis

We perform a comprehensive phenomenological analysis of the twin Pati-Salam theory of flavour, focussing on the parameter space relevant for interpreting the BB-anomalies via vector leptoquark U1U_1 exchange. This model provides a very predictive framework in which the U1U_1 couplings and the Yukawa couplings find a common origin via mixing of chiral quarks and leptons with vector-like fermions, providing a direct link between the BB-anomalies and the fermion masses and mixing. We propose and study a simplified model with three vector-like fermion families, in the massless first family approximation, and show that the second and third family charged fermion masses and mixings and the BB-anomalies can be simultaneously explained and related. The model has the proper flavour structure to be compatible with all low-energy observables, and leads to predictions in promising observables such as τ3μ\tau\rightarrow3\mu, τμγ\tau\rightarrow\mu\gamma and BK()ννˉB\rightarrow K^{(*)}\nu\bar{\nu} at Belle II and LHCb. The model also predicts a rich spectrum of TeV scale gauge bosons and vector-like fermions, all accessible to the LHC. In this updated version we have included an extended analysis considering the new 2022 LHCb data on RK()R_{K^{(*)}}, which has slightly shifted the preferred parameter space with respect to the 2021 case. The model can still explain the RD()R_{D^{(*)}} anomalies at 1σ\sigma in a narrow window, however we expect small deviations from the SM on the RK()R_{K^{(*)}} ratios, to be tested in the future via more precise measurements by the LHCb collaboration. We also predict ΔRD=ΔRD\Delta R_{D}= \Delta R_{D^{*}}, with future measurements shifting the world averages to slightly smaller central values.Comment: 44 pages + appendices and references, 14 figures. v5: Typos correcte

Tri-unification: a separate SU(5)SU(5) for each fermion family

In this paper we discuss SU(5)3SU(5)^{3} with cyclic symmetry as a possible grand unified theory (GUT). The basic idea of such a tri-unification is that there is a separate SU(5)SU(5) for each fermion family, with the light Higgs doublet(s) arising from the third family SU(5)SU(5), providing a basis for charged fermion mass hierarchies. SU(5)3SU(5)^{3} tri-unification reconciles the idea of gauge non-universality with the idea of gauge coupling unification, opening the possibility to build consistent non-universal descriptions of Nature that are valid all the way up to the scale of grand unification. As a concrete example, we propose a grand unified embedding of the tri-hypercharge model U(1)Y3U(1)_Y^3 based on an SU(5)3SU(5)^{3} framework with cyclic symmetry. We discuss a minimal tri-hypercharge example which can account for all the quark and lepton (including neutrino) masses and mixing parameters. We show that it is possible to unify the gauge couplings into a single gauge coupling associated with the cyclic SU(5)3SU(5)^{3} gauge group, by assuming minimal multiplet splitting, together with a set of relatively light colour octet scalars. We also study proton decay in this example, and present the predictions for the proton lifetime in the dominant e+π0e^+\pi^0 channel.Comment: 18 pages + Appendix, 7 figures. v2: citations added, conclusions unchange

Financial Soundness Prediction Using a Multi-classification Model: Evidence from Current Financial Crisis in OECD Banks

    Get PDF
The paper aims to develop an early warning model that separates previously rated banks (337 Fitch-rated banks from OECD) into three classes, based on their financial health and using a one-year window. The early warning system is based on a classification model which estimates the Fitch ratings using Bankscope bankspecific data, regulatory and macroeconomic data as input variables. The authors propose a “hybridization technique” that combines the Extreme learning machine and the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique. Due to the imbalanced nature of the problem, the authors apply an oversampling technique on the data aiming to improve the classification results on the minority groups. The methodology proposed outperforms other existing classification techniques used to predict bank solvency. It proved essential in improving average accuracy and especially the performance of the minority groups

Eco-efficiency in the SMEs of Venezuela. Current status and future perspectives

[EN] This paper presents a comparison analysis of eco-efficiency in the small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) of Venezuela. The research can be divided into three parts: the first part reviews similar studies in the literature on the level of eco-efficiency exhibited by the companies of Venezuela and other countries. In the second place, the findings of a survey conducted on Venezuelan SMEs allowed the definition of 54 eco-efficiency profiles. Thirdly, six national experts in cleaner production and eco-efficiency were interviewed. The interview was based on a questionnaire similar to that used in the survey of the Venezuelan SMEs. At a second meeting, the experts were asked to discuss on the similarities and differences between their answers and those of the company's managers. The findings of the survey allow us to conclude that Venezuelan SMEs understand the legal environmental regulations that affect them but they do not perceive the influence of external driving forces like customers demand for green products or institutional incentives. The adoption of eco-efficiency practices is not perceived as an incentive to improve competitiveness so that the environmental strategies adopted generally aim at reducing costs or avoiding non-compliance sanctions and negative effects on the company image. Materials recycling and reuse, especially packaging materials, are common practices; however, other environmental tools or practices have not been implemented yet, e.g. environmental management systems (EMS), process, product and services design tools based on the product life cycle, renewable energy resources or green marketing. There are also differences among the eight industrial sectors analyzed, food and chemical industries having the higher index of eco-efficiency practices, and plastic and wood industries the lower. New database to select phase change materials: chemical nature, properties, and applications

    Get PDF
Today, thermal energy storage materials are proposed as a promising solution to increase the energy efficiency in building sector and to reduce the total energy demand because building sector accounts up to 34% of total energy consumption. Under this situation, phase change materials (PCM) are well-considered as materials to store energy allowing high energy densities (between 50 and 600 MJ/cm3). Available materials to be used as PCM for building application in literature were added to a database for to be used with CES Selector software. More than three hundred PCM whit phase change temperatures between −50 °C and 150 °C and considering commercial and non-commercial PCM were listed and classified by their properties and the values available of the materials have been introduced in this database. The main objective of this study is to generate a PCM database and draw on it in order to facilitate the selection of the most suitable PCM depending on the building application. The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Commission Seventh Framework Programme (FP/ 2007-2013) under grant agreement no. ENER/FP7/1295983 (MERITS) and under grant agreement no. PIRSES-GA-2013-610692 (INNOSTORAGE). In situ thermal and acoustic performance and environmental impact of the introduction of a shape-stabilized PCM layer for building applications

    Get PDF
Energy consumption in buildings accounts for up to 34% of total energy demand in developed countries. Thermal energy storage (TES) through phase change materials (PCM) is considered as a promising solution for this energetic problem in buildings. The material used in this paper is an own-developed shape stabilized PCM with a polymeric matrix and 12% paraffin PCM, and it includes a waste from the recycling steel process known as electrical arc furnace dust (EAFD), which provides acoustic insulation performance capability. This dense sheet material was installed and experimentally tested. Ambient temperature, humidity, and wall temperatures were measured and the thermal behaviour and acoustic properties were registered. Finally, because of the nature of the waste used, a leaching test was also carried out. The thermal profiles show that the inclusion of PCM decreases the indoor ambient temperature up to 3 ºC; the acoustic measurements performed in situ demonstrate that the new dense sheet material is able to acoustically insulate up to 4 dB more than the reference cubicle; and the leaching test results show that the material developed incorporating PCM and EAFD must be considered a nonhazardous material
