    Publication of the values of Spanish university libraries on their websites. The article aims to shed light on the values that guide professional practice in Spanish university libraries and the strategies deployed to publicise them on library websites. Identifying the statements that inform each library staff’s behaviour called for analysing the corporate documents published on such sites. Value visibility and accessibility were assessed on the grounds of the length of the route from the home page. The prominence of the corporate document containing the information was also studied. The analysis initially revealed values relating to the administration of public assets, such as engagement with the institution, its services and users. That was followed by professional values such as defence of access to information, data and science. The values most frequently espoused were innovation and professionalism. Libraries are encouraged to define their values which, along with their mission and vision, are a significant component of their internal and external strategy and communication policy. Their publication, in turn, redounds to transparency and enhances the relationship with their target audience

    The relationship between vulnerable financial consumers and banking institutions. A qualitative study in Spain

    The financial exclusion phenomenon has been approached from different perspectives. After reviewing the recent literature, we adopt a financial ecology approach and propose a comprehensive framework to analyse the different types of difficulties (access, use and perception) that vulnerable financial consumers face in relationships with banking institutions as well as their underlying causes. We consider financial inclusion as the sustainable provision of financial services and products and an adjustment to individual needs. We examine a special group of urban vulnerable consumers: underbanked people facing poverty and social exclusion. Data were obtained from focus groups and were coded and analysed using qualitative data analysis software. The results show that use difficulties predominate, followed by perception difficulties. Bank pressure and lack of financial training stood out among the main causes of these financial difficulties. We conclude that poorer neighbourhoods constitute a distinctive financial ecology produced by the ?discrimination? of a significant number of their inhabitants in the use of mainstream financial services. The study provides evidence of the socio-spatial nature of the exclusion process and calls for further research on the role of policy responses to restrict abusive practices.Fundación de la Universidad de Cantabria para el Estudio y la Investigación del Sector Financiero (UCEIF

    MULTICAGE CAD-4 para la detección de adicciones conductuales: validez estructural después de la inclusión de una escala en el abuso de teléfonos inteligentes

    Addictive behaviors are not limited to drugs use, but also include certain daily behaviors that can cause gratification. Their progression to more severe pathological patterns entails grave consequences for the individual, including multiple psychopathological manifestations. The early detection of this type of behavior is of concern to primary health care. Therefore, in order to detect risk at early stages, reliable and valid tools for daily practice are essential. The MULTICAGE CAD-4 questionnaire is a screening tool for simultaneously detecting addictive behaviors. This study includes a new scale for the detection of smartphone abuse. The objective is to evaluate the adequacy of its psychometric properties. A sample of 2,074 subjects that were recruited from primary care centers ofMadrid(Spain) completed the MULTICAGE CAD-4 questionnaire. A confirmatory factor analysis, using unweighted least squares method, was performed. The test showed good internal consistency both at item and scale levels. The questionnaire structure was consistent with theoretical expectations. The MULTICAGE CAD-4, including the new smartphone scale, is a robust, reliable tool with a valid structure for assessing the presence of dysfunctional or potentially addictive behaviors, and especially useful in primary health care services.Los comportamientos adictivos no se limitan al uso de drogas, sino que también incluyen ciertos comportamientos diarios que pueden causar gratificación. Su progresión a patrones patológicos más severos conlleva graves consecuencias para el individuo, incluidas múltiples manifestaciones psicopatológicas. La detección temprana de este tipo de comportamiento es de interés para la atención primaria de salud. Por lo tanto, para detectar riesgos en etapas tempranas, las herramientas confiables y válidas para la práctica diaria son esenciales. El cuestionario MULTICAGE CAD-4 es una herramienta de detección para detectar simultáneamente conductas adictivas. Este estudio incluye una nueva escala para la detección del abuso de teléfonos inteligentes. El objetivo es evaluar la adecuación de sus propiedades psicométricas. Una muestra de 2.074 sujetos reclutados en centros de atención primaria de Madrid (España) completó el cuestionario MULTICAGE CAD-4. Se realizó un análisis factorial confirmatorio, utilizando el método de mínimos cuadrados no ponderados. La prueba mostró una buena consistencia interna tanto a nivel del ítem como de las escalas. La estructura del cuestionario fue consistente con las expectativas teóricas. El MULTICAGE CAD-4, incluida la nueva escala para teléfonos inteligentes, es una herramienta robusta y confiable con una estructura válida para evaluar la presencia de comportamientos disfuncionales o potencialmente adictivos, y especialmente útil en servicios de atención primaria de salud

    Efficacy of the creation of a patient school program in the detection of needs in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease

    Introducción: La Poliquistosis Renal Autosómica Dominante es una enfermedad renal crónica responsable del 10% de los casos de insuficiencia renal terminal. La participación y los grupos de apoyo entre iguales son herramientas que mejoran el bienestar, evitando complicaciones y retrasando el avance de la enfermedad. Objetivos: Detectar necesidades informativas, así como recursos de apoyo, en este grupo de pacientes mediante la puesta en marcha de una Escuela de Pacientes con poliquistosis renal autosómica dominante. Material y Método: Se utilizó un diseño mixto (cuantitativo y cualitativo). El estudio se desarrolló mediante cuatro fases: 1) Grupo focal: pacientes con poliquistosis renal y sus cuidadores; 2) Selección de los pacientes expertos; 3) Elaboración de los contenidos del programa de la Escuela de pacientes con poliquitstosis renal autosómica dominante; 4) Pilotaje del programa. Resultados: Se detectaron necesidades de información referentes al tratamiento oral y al afrontamiento de la poliquistosis renal que no están cubiertas por los equipos de nefrología. Conclusiones: La Escuela de Pacientes ha demostrado ser una herramienta útil para detectar necesidades y recursos en pacientes con poliquistosis renal autosómica dominante que han de enfrentarse a una enfermedad crónica donde se requiere la participación del paciente para garantizar la adhesión al tratamiento.Introduction: Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease is a chronic kidney disease responsible for 10% of cases of end-stage renal failure. Participation and peer support groups are tools that improve well-being, avoiding complications and delaying disease progression. Objectives: To detect information needs, as well as support resources, in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease trough a Patient School. Material and Method: A mixed design (quantitative and qualitative) was used. The study was developed through four phases: 1) Focus group: patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and their caregivers; 2) Selection of expert patients; 3) Preparation of the contents of the program of the Patient School with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease; 4) Piloting the program. Results: Information needs regarding oral treatment and coping with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease were detected, which are not covered by nephrology teams. Conclusions: Patients School has proven to be a useful tool to detect needs and resources in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease who have to face a chronic disease where patient participation is required to ensure adherence to treatmen

    Immediate effects of dasatinib on the migration and redistribution of naïve and memory lymphocytes associated with lymphocytosis in chronic myeloid leukemia patients

    Introduction: Dasatinib is a dual SRC/ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitor used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) that is known to have unique immunomodulatory effects. In particular, dasatinib intake typically causes lymphocytosis, which has been linked to better clinical response. Since the underlying mechanisms are unknown and SRC family kinases are involved in many cell motility processes, we hypothesized that the movement and migration of lymphocytes is modulated by dasatinib. Patients, Materials and Methods: Peripheral blood samples from CML patients treated with second-line dasatinib were collected before and 2 h after the first dasatinib intake, and follow-up samples from the same patients 3 and 6 months after the start of therapy. The migratory capacity and phenotype of lymphocytes and differential blood counts before and after drug intake were compared for all study time-points. Results: We report here for the first time that dasatinib intake is associated with inhibition of peripheral blood T-cell migration toward the homeostatic chemokines CCL19 and CCL21, which control the trafficking toward secondary lymphoid organs, mainly the lymph nodes. Accordingly, the proportion of lymphocytes in blood expressing CCR7, the chemokine receptor for both CCL19 and CCL21, decreased after the intake including both naïve CD45RA+ and central memory CD45RO+ T-cells. Similarly, naïve B-cells diminished with dasatinib. Finally, such changes in the migratory patterns did not occur in those patients whose lymphocyte counts remained unchanged after taking the drug. Discussion: We, therefore, conclude that lymphocytosis induced by dasatinib reflects a pronounced redistribution of naïve and memory populations of all lymphocyte subsets including CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells and B-cells

    Influence of the characteristics of the house and place of residence in the daily educational activities of children during the period of COVID-19’ confinement

    The period of confinement motivated by the COVID-19 pandemic and established by the governments of different countries has influenced the lifestyle of millions of children, not being able to continue carrying out multiple educational activities as they did until confinement. The objective of this research was to determine and analyze whether the living conditions of children during the period of confinement caused by COVID-19 influenced their daily educational activities. A descriptive, comparative and cross- sectional quantitative study with a non-experimental design was carried out, with a single measurement in a single group. Factors associate with living conditions were analyzed, such as the place of residence and the type of house in which Spanish children have been confined, as well as the number and use of technological devices. The parents' perception of the children's state of fatigue, happiness, energy and tiredness was also analyzed. We have worked with a sample of 837 Spanish children. As a data collection instrument, the validated questionnaire on Equipment and Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Households (TIC-H2019) of the National Statistics Institute (INE) was used, following the recommendations of the Statistical Office of the European Union (EUROSTAT). The results confirm some statistically significant influence of the conditions of the house and place of residence on the daily time dedicated to different educational activities such as reading, physical activity, free play or use of technological devices between children residing in small flats and those residing in large flats or houses with garden and those residing in urban and rural settings

    Artificial intelligence and all its supporting tools, e.g. machine and deep learning in computational intelligence-based systems, are rebuilding our society (economy, education, life-style, etc.) and promising a new era for the social welfare state. In this paper we summarize recent advances in data science and artificial intelligence within the interplay between natural and artificial computation. A review of recent works published in the latter field and the state the art are summarized in a comprehensive and self-contained way to provide a baseline framework for the international community in artificial intelligence.
