Pooling stated and revealed preference data in the presence of RP endogeneity
Pooled discrete choice models combine revealed preference (RP) data and stated preference (SP) data to exploit advantages of each. SP data is often treated with suspicion because consumers may respond differently in a hypothetical survey context than they do in the marketplace. However, models built on RP data can suffer from endogeneity bias when attributes that drive consumer choices are unobserved by the modeler and correlated with observed variables. Using a synthetic data experiment, we test the performance of pooled RP–SP models in recovering the preference parameters that generated the market data under conditions that choice modelers are likely to face, including (1) when there is potential for endogeneity problems in the RP data, such as omitted variable bias, and (2) when consumer willingness to pay for attributes may differ from the survey context to the market context. We identify situations where pooling RP and SP data does and does not mitigate each data source’s respective weaknesses. We also show that the likelihood ratio test, which has been widely used to determine whether pooling is statistically justifiable, (1) can fail to identify the case where SP context preference differences and RP endogeneity bias shift the parameter estimates of both models in the same direction and magnitude and (2) is unreliable when the product attributes are fixed within a small number of choice sets, which is typical of automotive RP data. Our findings offer new insights into when pooling data sources may or may not be advisable for accurately estimating market preference parameters, including consideration of the conditions and context under which the data were generated as well as the relative balance of information between data sources.This work was supported in part by a grant from the Link Foundation, a grant from the National Science Foundation # 1064241 , and a grant from Ford Motor Company. Quaternionic Madelung Transformation and Non-Abelian Fluid Dynamics
In the 1920's, Madelung noticed that if the complex Schroedinger wavefunction
is expressed in polar form, then its modulus squared and the gradient of its
phase may be interpreted as the hydrodynamic density and velocity,
respectively, of a compressible fluid. In this paper, we generalize Madelung's
transformation to the quaternionic Schroedinger equation. The non-abelian
nature of the full SU(2) gauge group of this equation leads to a richer, more
intricate set of fluid equations than those arising from complex quantum
mechanics. We begin by describing the quaternionic version of Madelung's
transformation, and identifying its ``hydrodynamic'' variables. In order to
find Hamiltonian equations of motion for these, we first develop the canonical
Poisson bracket and Hamiltonian for the quaternionic Schroedinger equation, and
then apply Madelung's transformation to derive non-canonical Poisson brackets
yielding the desired equations of motion. These are a particularly natural set
of equations for a non-abelian fluid, and differ from those obtained by
Bistrovic et al. only by a global gauge transformation. Because we have
obtained these equations by a transformation of the quaternionic Schroedinger
equation, and because many techniques for simulating complex quantum mechanics
generalize straightforwardly to the quaternionic case, our observation leads to
simple algorithms for the computer simulation of non-abelian fluids.Comment: 15 page
Selective amplification of scars in a chaotic optical fiber
In this letter we propose an original mechanism to select scar modes through
coherent gain amplification in a multimode D-shaped fiber. More precisely, we
numerically demonstrate how scar modes can be amplified by positioning a gain
region in the vicinity of specific points of a short periodic orbit known to
give rise to scar modes
A Phenomenological Exploration of Beginning Counselor Educators’ Experiences Developing a Research Agenda
Hermeneutic, phenomenological methodology was used to explore experiences developing a research agenda for five beginning counselor educators. Through in-depth, open-ended interviews, experiences included (a) balance, (b) isolation, and (c) evaluation while references to trusting relationships were manifest across all themes. Recommendations for counselor educators spanning the profession are provided
Driven Morse Oscillator: Model for Multi-photon Dissociation of Nitrogen Oxide
Within a one-dimensional semi-classical model with a Morse potential the
possibility of infrared multi-photon dissociation of vibrationally excited
nitrogen oxide was studied. The dissociation thresholds of typical driving
forces and couplings were found to be similar, which indicates that the results
were robust to variations of the potential and of the definition of
dissociation rate.

Classical and quantum decay of one dimensional finite wells with oscillating walls
To study the time decay laws (tdl) of quasibounded hamiltonian systems we
have considered two finite potential wells with oscillating walls filled by non
interacting particles. We show that the tdl can be qualitatively different for
different movement of the oscillating wall at classical level according to the
characteristic of trapped periodic orbits. However, the quantum dynamics do not

Approximate Analytic Solution for the Spatiotemporal Evolution of Wave Packets undergoing Arbitrary Dispersion
We apply expansion methods to obtain an approximate expression in terms of
elementary functions for the space and time dependence of wave packets in a
dispersive medium. The specific application to pulses in a cold plasma is
considered in detail, and the explicit analytic formula that results is
provided. When certain general initial conditions are satisfied, these
expressions describe the packet evolution quite well. We conclude by employing
the method to exhibit aspects of dispersive pulse propagation in a cold plasma,
and suggest how predicted and experimental effects may be compared to improve

Optimal use of time dependent probability density data to extract potential energy surfaces
A novel algorithm was recently presented to utilize emerging time dependent
probability density data to extract molecular potential energy surfaces. This
paper builds on the previous work and seeks to enhance the capabilities of the
extraction algorithm: An improved method of removing the generally ill-posed
nature of the inverse problem is introduced via an extended Tikhonov
regularization and methods for choosing the optimal regularization parameters
are discussed. Several ways to incorporate multiple data sets are investigated,
including the means to optimally combine data from many experiments exploring
different portions of the potential. Results are presented on the stability of
the inversion procedure, including the optimal combination scheme, under the
influence of data noise. The method is applied to the simulated inversion of a

Multi-filament structures in relativistic self-focusing
A simple model is derived to prove the multi-filament structure of
relativistic self-focusing with ultra-intense lasers. Exact analytical
solutions describing the transverse structure of waveguide channels with
electron cavitation, for which both the relativistic and ponderomotive

Efficacy of cilostazol on platelet reactivity and cardiovascular outcomes in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: insights from a meta-analysis of randomised trials
Background: Cilostazol overcomes high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HTPR) and reduces adverse cardiovascular (CV) outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, the role for triple antiplatelet therapy (TAPT) with cilostazol in addition to aspirin and clopidogrel after PCI is not well defined. Methods: We conducted a MEDLINE/EMBASE/CENTRAL search for randomised trials, until May 2014, evaluating TAPT compared with dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) of aspirin and clopidogrel alone in patients undergoing PCI and reporting platelet reactivity and/or CV outcomes. The primary platelet reactivity outcome was differences in platelet reactivity unit (PRU) with secondary outcomes of %platelet inhibition and rate of HTPR. The primary CV outcome was major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), with secondary outcomes of death, cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stent thrombosis (ST), target lesion revascularisation (TLR) and target vessel revascularisation (TVR) as well as safety outcomes of bleeding and drug discontinuations. Results: In 17 trials that evaluated platelet reactivity outcomes, the mean PRU value was 47.73 units lower with TAPT versus DAPT (95% CI −61.41 to −34.04, p<0.0001; mean PRU 182.90 vs 232.65). TAPT also increased platelet inhibition by 12.71% (95% CI 10.76 to 14.67, p<0.0001), and led to a 60% reduction in the risk of HTPR (relative risk=0.40; 95% CI 0.30 to 0.53) compared with DAPT. Moreover, among the 34 trials that evaluated CV outcomes, TAPT reduced the risk of MACE (incident rate ratio (IRR)=0.68; 95% CI 0.60 to 0.78), TLR (IRR=0.57; 95% CI 0.44 to 0.73), TVR (IRR=0.69; 95% CI 0.59 to 0.81) and ST (IRR=0.63; 95% CI 0.40 to 0.98) with no difference for other outcomes including bleeding, even in trials using drug-eluting stents. Drug discontinuation due to adverse effects was, however, higher with TAPT vs DAPT (IRR=1.59; 95% CI 1.32 to 1.91). Conclusions: In patients undergoing PCI, addition of cilostazol to DAPT results in decreased platelet reactivity and a significant reduction in CV outcomes including ST, even in the drug-eluting stent era
