Effective Maxwell's equations in general periodic microstructures
We study the time harmonic Maxwell equations in a meta-material consisting of
perfect conductors and void space. The meta-material is assumed to be periodic
with period ; we study the behaviour of solutions in the limit and derive an effective system. In
geometries with a non-trivial topology, the limit system implies that certain
components of the effective fields vanish. We identify the corresponding
effective system and can predict, from topological properties of the
meta-material, whether or not it permits the propagation of waves
A orillas del Pirgua. Representaciones rupestres en el sitio RÃo Pirgua 1 (Guachipas, Salta)
The department of Guachipas, Salta (Northwestern Argentina) is characterized by a concentration of archaeological sites, some of them standout because of their rock art. In this article, the RÃo Pirgua 1 site is described, with its rock art being compared with that from other sites in the Las Juntas micro-region. The analyzed set consisted of 96 painted motifs that included shield-shape motifs (characteristic of this area), human figures and camelids in different poses. These representations were the product of three phases of conception. The most recent coinciding with the Inca presence in the region (A.D. 1450-1535), another phase dating to the Regional Developments Period (A.D. 900-1450), and an earlier one corresponding to the first millennium of the Christian era (A.D. 0-900). Here we discuss these temporal adscriptions. Nootropic effects of LSD: Behavioral, molecular and computational evidence
The therapeutic use of classical psychedelic substances such as d-lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) surged in recent years. Studies in rodents suggest that these effects are produced by increased neural plasticity, including stimulation of the mTOR pathway, a key regulator of metabolism, plasticity, and aging. Could psychedelic-induced neural plasticity be harnessed to enhance cognition? Here we show that LSD treatment enhanced performance in a novel object recognition task in rats, and in a visuo-spatial memory task in humans. A proteomic analysis of human brain organoids showed that LSD affected metabolic pathways associated with neural plasticity, including mTOR. To gain insight into the relation of neural plasticity, aging and LSD-induced cognitive gains, we emulated the experiments in rats and humans with a neural network model of a cortico-hippocampal circuit. Using the baseline strength of plasticity as a proxy for age and assuming an increase in plasticity strength related to LSD dose, the simulations provided a good fit for the experimental data. Altogether, the results suggest that LSD has nootropic effects. This project was supported by the Beckley Foundation; Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior (CAPES) – Finance Code 001, Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientÃfico e Tecnológico (CNPq) (grants 308775/2015-5 and 408145/2016-1), São Paulo Research Foundation grants (2013/07699-0, 2014/10068-4, 2017/25588-1 and 2019/00098-7), intramural grants from D'Or Institute and Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, and a Juan de la Cierva-Incorporación Scholarship (IJCI-2016-27864) from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and a Newton International Fellowship from the Royal Society.Peer reviewe
Different methods of public management and use of cultural heritage. Los Colorados provincial multiple use reserve (La Rioja, Argentina) case study, between 2005 and 2019
This work describes the management models developed at Los Colorados Provincial Multiple Use Reserve (La Rioja Province, Argentina) between 2005 and 2019. Ten year constant work allowed a self-reflection regarding management, in which crossings of different methods applied to social and cultural problems were addressed in an inclusive and sustainable project of cultural heritage. Considerations are made on the construction of interdisciplinary approaches that contribute to human well-being, and also their link with archaeological heritage during interaction with the community and the environment. The social and cultural aspects that allow understanding the theoretical and practical aspects that contribute to the praxis of heritage management models are taken into account

Power and prestige in the south-central Andes: an approach based on the shield-shape paintings of Guachipas (northwestern argentina)
This article presents a detailed analysis of the shield-shape motif in two areas in the Guachipas region, Salta (north western Argentina). The dispersion of this representation in archeological contexts from Northwestern Argentina and North Chile, and its chronological order to the TardÃo (Desarrollos Regionales and Inka periods) is debated. The possibility of considering these motifs as symbols of power and prestige of individuals that represent the new hierarchy during those periods in the center-south Andes, is evaluated.Fil: Podestá, M.
