Hunger signs in plants
Soil, water and tissue analysis are all used to diagnose plant nutrition. This is often helpful and can confirm nutrient toxicities or deficiencies, but often the easiest and most direct technique is to look at the plant symptoms. All higher plants take on certain patterns on their leaves when there is a lack or overabundance of a certain nutrient. Para citar este artículoFaber, B. (2015). Hunger signs in plants. Rev. Colomb. The Epoch of Disk Formation: z is Approximately l to Today
We present data on galaxy kinematics, morphologies, and star-formation rates over 0.1 less than z less than 1.2 for approximately 500 blue galaxies. These data show how systems like our own Milky-Way have come into being. At redshifts around 1, about half the age of the Universe ago, Milky-Way mass galaxies were different beasts than today. They had a significant amount of disturbed motions, disturbed morphologies, shallower potential wells, higher specific star-formation rates, and likely higher gas fractions. Since redshift approximately 1, galaxies have decreased in disturbed motions, increased in rotation velocity and potential well depth, become more well-ordered morphologically, and decreased in specific star-formation rate. We find interrelationships between these measurements. Galaxy kinematics are correlated with morphology and specific star-formation rate such that galaxies with the fastest rotation velocities and the least amounts of disturbed motions have the most well-ordered morphologies and the lowest specific star-formation rates. The converse is true. Moreover, we find that the rate at which galaxies become more well-ordered kinematically (i.e., increased rotation velocity, decreased disturbed motions) and morphologically is directly proportional to their stellar mass

Volunteer Researchers: Moving Beyond Cooperators
Engaging volunteer cooperators to perform field research presents a new approach to conducting applied research. We enlisted Extension Service users to conduct research. This allowed for an increased sample size and expanded study area than was possible using traditional approaches. Cooperators received comprehensive training that briefed them on the subject and research protocols. Data were collected via research workbooks and informal written surveys. We obtained acceptable data for demonstrating the efficacy of rodenticide treatment under operational conditions. Unexpectedly, cooperators favored one control method and indicated they would use it in the future, despite no statistical difference between treatment methods
Serious complication 1 year after sacrospinous ligament fixation
Myositis of the gluteal region caused by group A streptococci 1 year after a sacrospinous ligament fixation was recognised as a serious complication of this procedure. Most likely, the infection was spread to the gluteal region through a port d’entree caused by vaginal atrophy, via the non-resorbable sutures. The patient was treated successfully with antibiotics intravenous and local estrogens
MULCH EFFECTS ON AVOCADO ROOT ROT
Abstract Hass avocado on three types of rootstock (Duke 7, Thomas, and Toro Canyon) and Zutano seedlings were planted in root rot infested soil and treated (or untreated) with mulch, Aliette or gypsum, as well as all possible combinations. Toro Canyon rootstocks produced the largest trees, Duke 7 the smallest. Mulch and gypsum did not affect tree size, however Aliette stimulated tree growth. Mulched trees had increased diseased symptoms while Aliette-treated trees were less symptomatic. Gypsum had no effect on disease ratings
Screening and Deconfinement of Sources in Finite Temperature SU(2) Lattice Gauge Theory
Deconfinement and screening of higher-representation sources in
finite-temperature lattice gauge theory is investigated by both
analytical and numerical means. The effective Polyakov-line action at strong
coupling is simulated by an efficient cluster-updating Monte Carlo algorithm
for the case of dimensions. The results compare very favourably with
an improved mean-field solution. The limit of the
theory is shown to be highly singular as far as critical behaviour is
concerned. In that limit the leading amplitudes of higher representation
Polyakov lines vanish at strong coupling, and subleading exponents become
dominant. Each of the higher-representation sources then effectively carry with
them their own critical exponents.Comment: 13pages+7figures, CERN-TH-7222/94 One reference added, else unchange
