Mestrado em Engenharia Alimentar - Processamento de Alimentos - Instituto Superior de AgronomiaThe main objective of this work involves the development of formulations of low-calorie fillings for chocolate candies that have a positive impact on consumers health. This theme of master’s thesis, was developed within the QREN Project - I&DT Co-promotion 33880 “HealthyBombons”, in partnership with AJM Pastelarias, Lda. Fruit fillings based on three types of fruit, pear (pera rocha), blueberries and green apple were produced. Thee fillings were compared with two commercial fruit fillings, raspberry and passionflower, produced by the company AJM Pastelarias, Lda. For the production of the fillings were four types of ingredients with different features, were produced, gelling agents (rice flour or psyllium and inulin), chocolate, sweeteners and spices. The effect of psyllium, sweeteners, protein and fiber concentration in the structure of the fillings and the effect of the type of the fruit fillings with the additions of rice flour or psyllium and inulin, were studied. The filling was produced at 90°C, on a mixer with an helix pad, for 30 minutes at a rotation speed of 400 rpm at let to set at 20ºC for 12 hours. There was a significant reduction in caloric value, both in the gelled fruit fillings and on the rice flour and psyllium fillings, of the order of 220 kca

    VIRUS-RESISTANCE GENES: THE MOUSE MODEL.

    Get PDF
Human and animals differ widely in their responses to virus infections. Viruses may induce barely discernible symptoms in some of them and severe, life-threatening illness in others. Evidence is accumulating that genetic background is one of the major factors involved, thus, identifying genes that control the response to virus infection is a crucial step in elucidating how they might affect the pathophysiological processes underlying the severity of the disease induced.  In this review, it’s illustrated how mouse-virus systems are being used to identify candidate virus-resistance genes, and how they provide the probes to detect functional homologues of resistance genes that are shared by rodent and other species

Um filtro para palavras exóticas frequentes em Português

    Get PDF

PNAEQ - 13 years of post-analytical EQAS in Portugal

    Get PDF
In the last 13 years, PNAEQ provided a specific program on post-analytical phase. In order to raise the offer of schemes in areas like Thrombosis/ Haemostasis, PNAEQ has established a consortium with ECAT Foundation distributing two more schemes: Post- Analytical Platelet Function and Pre- and Post-Analytical in Haemostasis. Furthermore, five of the analytical schemes organized by PNAEQ include a post-analytical interpretation, such as Blood Morphology, Hemoglobinopathies, Hydatidose, Rubella and Toxoplasmosis. The main objective of implementing specific and integrated programs on post-analytical phase is to evaluate the performance of laboratories on these matters in order to improve their quality service. The specific program on post-analytical phase provided by PNAEQ comprises 6 types of surveys: audits (vertical and presential), case simulation, case-study, document evaluation, quality indicators and questionnaires. Each survey represents a different tool to evaluate several items of the post-analytical process (Table 1), as well as the laboratory collaborators involved in each task (Figure 1). The items in evaluation are annually selected in the PNAEQ Working Group on Pre- and Post-Analytical Phase (created in 2015) and in compliance with the Portuguese Legislation and the ISO 15189:2012(E). Since 2007 PNAEQ has distributed 6 types of tools in the Post-Analytical Phase EQA, stabilizing in 3 of them in the last five years: Audits, Case Simulation and Quality Indicators. The participation rate has been increasing since 2015, which can be due to the multiple actions performed by PNAEQ Working Group on Pre- and Post-Analytical Phase. In addition, the Case Simulation surveys are the most participated (74% average) since the participation depends on PNAEQ. For the future, PNAEQ and the Working Group will work on the continuous update of the tools content distributed in each survey according to international references and the experience of other EQA organizers.N/

Promovendo a subericultura?

Portugal currently leads worldwide all the facets of the cork business, from the forest market, through manufacturing and the trade of cork products. This scenario is enhanced with the fact that in Portugal the cork oak trees have the best conditions for their development. However, up to 1930s, this role was played by other countries, especially by Spain, and is important to understand the factors that contributed to this situation. Recent historiography has highlighted the public policies pursued by Portugal during the Estado Novo, in comparison with those followed by the Franco regime, as one of the main reasons for the rise of the portuguese cork sector, which includes forestry policy. Therefore, it’s important to carry out a similar exercise for the chronology in question, thus the aim of this work is to analyze, in a comparative perspective, the nineteenth-century forest and cereal policies of Portugal and Spain, in the latter case due to the implications that cereal protectionism had towards the cork oak forests. Legislative sources, technical reports and official agricultural statistics were used, and it was concluded that there was no clear advantage derived from any agroforestry public policy by the spanish cork industry compared to the portuguese one. In the matter of fact, as we will demonstrate, both States procedured with great similarity

    FELINE CUTANEOUS LYMPHANGIOMA- CASE REPORT

This article describes a case report of a feline cutaneous lymphangioma. Lymphangiomas (synonym: lymphangiomatosis) and lymphangiosarcomas are rare tumors, usually associated with skin, some are believed to be congenital in young animals associated with vascular abnormalities. In gross pathology description they are poorly defined, cavernous-spongy, soft and they may be identified along fascial planes, because of this it may be difficult to remove, so tumors tend to recur. In histopathology description we can see interconnecting channels lined by endothelium usually without erythrocytes, but these tumors do not have unique features

Mapping, filtering and measuring impact of ambiguous words in Portuguese

This paper deals with ambiguous simple words of Portuguese. The Portuguese dictionary of simple inflected words contains (DELAF) 936.215 entries, from which there are 889.986 different inflected forms. It is possible to obtain the full list of ambiguous inflected forms (43.126), that is, word forms belonging to different categories and/or lemmas: capital,A/N/N (capital). We may consider A/N/N an ambiguity class. There are 137 ambiguity classes. Each ambiguity class presents a certain level of ambiguity (Amb) that corresponds to the number of lexical entries associated to each ambiguous form (again, for class A/N/N Amb=3). Based on this information it is possible to map how ambiguity affects the lexicon. Using the frequency information associated to the list of tokens of a large corpus (the CETEMPÚBLICO corpus, with 200 million words), it is possible to calculate how ambiguity affects real texts. Combining the two types of information, it is possible to devise and evaluate different strategies to reduce lexical ambiguity

A 6 year-old male Labrador Retriever presented with a slow growing subcutaneous tumor in the elbow that mimetized a hygroma. Histologically the tumor consisted of a multinodular mass of spindle cells proliferating from the muscular layer of the subcutaneous vessels. Tumor cells stained positively for alpha-smooth muscle actin and vimentin but were negative for desmin and S-100. The diagnosis was cutaneous angioleiomyosarcoma.
