The compound Poisson limit ruling periodic extreme behaviour of non-uniformly hyperbolic dynamics
We prove that the distributional limit of the normalised number of returns to
small neighbourhoods of periodic points of non-uniformly hyperbolic dynamical
systems is compound Poisson. The returns to small balls around a fixed point in
the phase space correspond to the occurrence of rare events, or exceedances of
high thresholds, so that there is a connection between the laws of Return Times
Statistics and Extreme Value Laws. The fact that the fixed point in the phase
space is a repelling periodic point implies that there is a tendency for the
exceedances to appear in clusters whose average sizes is given by the Extremal
Index, which depends on the expansion of the system at the periodic point.
We recall that for generic points, the exceedances, in the limit, are
singular and occur at Poisson times. However, around periodic points, the
picture is different: the respective point processes of exceedances converge to
a compound Poisson process, so instead of single exceedances, we have entire
clusters of exceedances occurring at Poisson times with a geometric
distribution ruling its multiplicity.
The systems to which our results apply include: general piecewise expanding
maps of the interval (Rychlik maps), maps with indifferent fixed points
(Manneville-Pomeau maps) and Benedicks-Carleson quadratic maps.Comment: To appear in Communications in Mathematical Physic
Outflows in the Narrow Line Region of Bright Seyfert Galaxies - I: GMOS-IFU Data
We present two-dimensional maps of emission-line fluxes and kinematics, as
well as of the stellar kinematics of the central few kpc of five bright nearby
Seyfert galaxies -- Mrk\,6, Mrk\,79, Mrk\,348, Mrk\,607 and Mrk\,1058 --
obtained from observations with the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS)
Integral Field Unit (IFU) on the Gemini North Telescope. The data cover the
inner 3\farcs55\farcs0 -- corresponding to physical scales in the range
0.60.9 to 1.52.2\,kpc -- at a spatial resolution ranging
from 110 to 280 pc with a spectral coverage of 4300 -- 7100\,\AA\ and velocity
resolution of 90\,km\,s. The gas excitation is Seyfert like
everywhere but show excitation, but show excitation gradients that are
correlated with the gas kinematics, reddening and/or the gas density. The gas
kinematics show in all cases two components: a rotation one similar to that
observed in the stellar velocity field, and an outflow component. In the case
of Mrk607, the gas is counter-rotating relative to the stars. Enhanced gas
velocity dispersion is observed in association to the outflows according to two
patterns: at the locations of the highest outflow velocities along the
ionization axis or perpendicularly to it in a strip centered at the nucleus
that we attribute to an equatorial outflow. Bipolar outflows are observed in
Mrk\,348 and Mrk\,79, while in Mrk\,1058 only the blueshifted part is clearly
observed, while in the cases of Mrk\,6 and Mrk\,607 the geometry of the outflow
needs further constraints from modeling to be presented in a forthcoming study,
where the mass flow rate and powers will also be obtained.Comment: 20 pages, accepted by MNRA

Re-entrant spin glass and magnetoresistance in Co_{0.2}Zn_{0.8}Fe_{1.6}Ti_{0.4}O_4 spinel oxide
We have investigated the static and dynamic response of magnetic clusters in
Co_{0.2}Zn_{0.8}Fe_{1.6}Ti_{0.4}O_4 spinel oxide, where a sequence of magnetic
phase transitions, i.e., paramagnetic (PM) to ferromagnetic at T_{C}
270K and ferromagnetic to canted spin glass state at T_f\leq$ 125K is

Evolutionary Multi-Objective Design of SARS-CoV-2 Protease Inhibitor Candidates
Computational drug design based on artificial intelligence is an emerging
research area. At the time of writing this paper, the world suffers from an
outbreak of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. A promising way to stop the virus
replication is via protease inhibition. We propose an evolutionary
multi-objective algorithm (EMOA) to design potential protease inhibitors for
SARS-CoV-2's main protease. Based on the SELFIES representation the EMOA
maximizes the binding of candidate ligands to the protein using the docking
tool QuickVina 2, while at the same time taking into account further objectives
like drug-likeliness or the fulfillment of filter constraints. The experimental
part analyzes the evolutionary process and discusses the inhibitor candidates.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, submitted to PPSN 202
Extreme value statistics for dynamical systems with noise
We study the distribution of maxima ( extreme value statistics ) for sequences of observables computed along orbits generated by random transformations. The underlying, deterministic, dynamical system can be regular or chaotic. In the former case, we show that, by perturbing rational or irrational rotations with additive noise, an extreme value law appears, regardless of the intensity of the noise, while unperturbed rotations do not admit such limiting distributions. In the case of deterministic chaotic dynamics, we will consider observables specially designed to study the recurrence properties in the neighbourhood of periodic points. Hence, the exponential limiting law for the distribution of maxima is modified by the presence of the extremal index , a positive parameter not larger than one, whose inverse gives the average size of the clusters of extreme events. The theory predicts that such a parameter is unitary when the system is perturbed randomly. We perform sophisticated numerical tests to assess how strong the impact of noise level is when finite time series are considered. We find agreement with the asymptotic theoretical results but also non-trivial behaviour in the finite range. In particular, our results suggest that, in many applications where finite datasets can be produced or analysed, one must be careful in assuming that the smoothing nature of noise prevails over the underlying deterministic dynamics
Multi-Photon Signals from Composite Models at LHC
We analyze the collider signals of composite scalars that emerge in certain
little Higgs models and models of vectorlike confinement. Similar to the decay
of the pion into photon pairs, these scalars mainly decay through
anomaly-induced interactions into electroweak gauge bosons, leading to a
distinct signal with three or more photons in the final state. We study the
standard model backgrounds for these signals, and find that the LHC can
discover these models over a large range of parameter space with 30 fb
at 14 TeV. An early discovery at the current 7 TeV run is possible in some
regions of parameter space. We also discuss possibilities to measure the spin
of the particles in the and decay channels.Comment: 18 pages, LaTe
The lepton flavor violating decays in the simplest little Higgs model
In the simplest little Higgs model the new flavor-changing interactions
between heavy neutrinos and the Standard Model leptons can generate
contributions to some lepton flavor violating decays of -boson at one-loop
level, such as , , and . We examine the decay modes, and find that the branching
ratios can reach for the three decays, which should be accessible at
the Giga option of the ILC.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figure
Unparticle Searches Through Compton Scattering
We investigate the effects of unparticles on Compton scattering, e gamma -> e
gamma based on a future e^+e^- linear collider such as the CLIC. For different
polarization configurations, we calculate the lower limits of the unparticle
energy scale Lambda_U for a discovery reach at the center of mass energies
sqrt(s)=0.5 TeV- 3 TeV. It is shown that, especially, for smaller values of the
mass dimension d, (1 <d <1.3), and for high energies and luminosities of the
collider these bounds are very significant. As a stringent limit, we find
Lambda_U>80 TeV for d<1.3 at sqrt(s)=3 TeV, and 1 ab^(-1) integrated luminosity
per year, which is comparable with the limits calculated from other low and
high energy physics implications.Comment: Table 1 and 2 have been combined as Table 1, references updated,
