This paper is an approach of the inventory models selection problem in single echelon system management with independent items. Four inventory models are considered, three reactive, which don't use demand forecasting for decision making, and one active model, that decides based on forecasting. Average operation cost per period is the performance measurement variable considered, calculated by using simulation of the models applied on sales temporal series. The paper analyses the effects, in the relative models performance, of the demand forecast accuracy and the use of minimum acquisition quantity in the active model. The analysis uses a search model jointly a simulator to optimize the parameters. The results present useful information for models selection and parameters determination in organizations environment

Performance levels of athletes with disabilities have improved significantly, and research in this area has collaborated with practitioners involved in the physical, technical, tactical, and development of equipment and artifacts to make activities feasible. The settings of frame throwers do not cooperate with the interface between the athlete and his sporting artifact. Regiments do not consider the inclusion of forms that favor sports practice. Frame throwers have recently undergone regimental changes which may hamper the design and the possibilities and functional capabilities for their users. This study aims to create an ergonomic frame thrower specific for the sports functional classes F54 and F57. The research was developed in three phases (Evaluation, Design and Testing). Four athletes who compete in the “Circuito Paraolímpico Loterias da Caixa de Atletismo”, sponsored by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee. Data collection included protocols for the evaluation of athletes, benchmarks, performance, semi-structured interview, bipolar questionnaire for musculoskeletal complaints. The software Ergolândia 5.0, Kinovea Video Editor program and IBM SPSS version 2 were used for the analysis. The athletes underwent a 6-week training routine with the usual frame thrower and later with the ergonomic one. The evaluations were performed before and after training. The customized frame thrower not only showed to be effective in reducing pain and complaints but also it allowed a change in the results. The study ended with the production of four pit banks for the functional classes from 54 to 57 that had as a characteristic the bipartite structure with specific accessories for each of the classes.

Evolutionary multi-objective optimisation with preferences for multivariable PI controller tuning

Multi-objective optimisation design procedures have shown to be a valuable tool for control engineers. They enable the designer having a close embedment of the tuning process for a wide variety of applica- tions. In such procedures, evolutionary multi-objective optimisation has been extensively used for PI and PID controller tuning; one reason for this is due to their flexibility to include mechanisms in order to en- hance convergence and diversity. Although its usability, when dealing with multi-variable processes, the resulting Pareto front approximation might not be useful, due to the number of design objectives stated. That is, a vast region of the objective space might be impractical or useless a priori, due to the strong degradation in some of the design objectives. In this paper preference handling techniques are incorpo- rated into the optimisation process, seeking to improve the pertinency of the approximated Pareto front for multi-variable PI controller tuning. That is, the inclusion of preferences into the optimisation process, in order to seek actively for a pertinent Pareto front approximation. With such approach, it is possible to tune a multi-variable PI controller, fulfilling several design objectives, using previous knowledge from the designer on the expected trade-off performance. This is validated with a well-known benchmark exam- ple in multi-variable control. Control tests show the usefulness of the proposed approach when compared with other tuning techniques. This work was partially supported by the fellowship BJT-304804/2014-2 from the National Council of Scientific and Technologic Development of Brazil (CNPq) and by EVO-CONTROL project (ref. The objective of this study was to identify statutory changes in throwing sports occurred in 2014 and how they interfere with the Brazilian athletes’ performance. The research is characterized as descriptive, documentary and quantitative. Rules were consulted in the archives from the International Paralympic Committee and the Brazilian Paralympic Committee as well as 177 results from competitions between 2013 and 2014. Student’s t-test (paired) was used during statistical analysis with a 5% significance level. Results show a significant difference in throwing competitors’ performance following the statutory changes. The functional classification F58 and F57 revealed a decrease in performance in 2014. Athletes with higher functional capabilities had worse performance compared to the results of those who are less functionally capable. The results of this investigation show that the changes in rules had direct consequences in results during the years analyzed, thus suggesting athletes have yet to assimilate and adapt to them

From August 1999 to January 2000, samples of house dust were collected from 160 domiciles in the city of Juiz de Fora, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. In 36 of these domiciles kitchen samples were obtained. Prevalence rate was 77.5%, varying according to the geographical sector. There were found 2,278 specimens of mites, with 1,530 (67.2%) in the adult stage and 748 (32.8%) in immature forms. The main species found were Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, D. farinae, Euroglyphus maynei, Blomia tropicalis and Tyrophagus putrescentiae. In a minor incidence we found Lepidoglyphus destructor, Suidasia pontificiae, Chortoglyphus arcuatus, Cheyletus malaccensis, C. fortis, Ker bakeri, Cheletonella vespertilionis, C. caucasica and others. C. vespertilionis and C. caucasica were identified for the first time in the domiciliary ecosystem and in Brazil. The abundance rate and the infestation intensity were analyzed. There was a varied correlation between climatic conditions and positive domiciles and number of mites. The difference between the number of positive domiciles in the urban area and in the expanding urban area was significant and so was the difference between samples from the domiciles compared to those from the kitchens.
