Simplified R-Symmetry Breaking and Low-Scale Gauge Mediation
We argue that some of the difficulties in constructing realistic models of
low-scale gauge mediation are artifacts of the narrow set of models that have
been studied. In particular, much attention has been payed to the scenario in
which the Goldstino superfield in an O'Raifeartaigh model is responsible for
both supersymmetry breaking and R-symmetry breaking. In such models, the
competing problems of generating sufficiently massive gauginos while preserving
an acceptably light gravitino can be quite challenging. We show that by sharing
the burdens of breaking supersymmetry and R-symmetry with a second field, these
problems are easily solved even within the O'Raifeartaigh framework. We present
explicit models realizing minimal gauge mediation with a gravitino mass in the
eV range that are both calculable and falsifiable.Comment: 31 pages, 4 figures, references added, minor change
Realization of Minimal Supergravity
Minimal supergravity mediation of supersymmetry breaking has attracted much
attention due to its simplicity, which leads to its predictive power. We
consider how Nature possibly realizes minimal supergravity through inflationary
selection of the theory. Minimality is impressively consistent with the present
observational bounds and it might be tested with the aid of low-energy soft
parameters obtained in future experiments.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure
ANALGESIC AND ANTIPYRETIC ACTIVITIES OF DRYMARIA CORDATA (LINN.) WILLD (CARYOPHYLLACEAE) EXTRACT
Drymaria cordata (Linn.) Willd (Caryophyllaceae) is an herbaceous plant widely used in traditional African medicine (TAM) for the treatment of diverse ailments including painful and febrile conditions. This study was conducted to investigate the analgesic and antipyretic properties of the whole plant extract of D. cordata. The acetic acid-induced writhing, formalin, and tail clip tests were used to evaluate analgesic activity while the 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP)-, d-amphetamine-, and yeast-induced hyperthermia tests were used to investigate antipyretic activity in rodents. D. cordata (100, 200, and 400 mg kg-1, p.o) produced significant (
Multifield Dynamics in Higgs-otic Inflation
In Higgs-otic inflation a complex neutral scalar combination of the and
MSSM Higgs fields plays the role of inflaton in a chaotic fashion. The
potential is protected from large trans-Planckian corrections at large inflaton
if the system is embedded in string theory so that the Higgs fields parametrize
a D-brane position. The inflaton potential is then given by a DBI+CS D-brane
action yielding an approximate linear behaviour at large field. The inflaton
scalar potential is a 2-field model with specific non-canonical kinetic terms.
Previous computations of the cosmological parameters (i.e. scalar and tensor
perturbations) did not take into account the full 2-field character of the
model, ignoring in particular the presence of isocurvature perturbations and
their coupling to the adiabatic modes. It is well known that for generic
2-field potentials such effects may significantly alter the observational
signatures of a given model. We perform a full analysis of adiabatic and
isocurvature perturbations in the Higgs-otic 2-field model. We show that the
predictivity of the model is increased compared to the adiabatic approximation.
Isocurvature perturbations moderately feed back into adiabatic fluctuations.
However, the isocurvature component is exponentially damped by the end of
inflation. The tensor to scalar ratio varies in a region ,
consistent with combined Planck/BICEP results.Comment: 35 pages, 11 figure
Higgs Boson Mass in Low Scale Gauge Mediation Models
We consider low scale gauge mediation models with a very light gravitino
m_{3/2}~16 eV, in the light of recent experimental hints on the Higgs boson
mass. The light gravitino is very interesting since there is no gravitino
over-production problem, but it seems difficult to explain the Higgs boson mass
of ~125 GeV. This is because of the conflict between the light gravitino mass
and heavy SUSY particle masses needed for producing the relatively heavy Higgs
boson mass. We consider two possible extensions in this paper: a singlet
extension of the Higgs sector, and strongly coupled gauge mediation. We show
that there is a large parameter space, in both scenarios, where the Higgs boson
mass of ~125 GeV is explained without any conflict with such a very light
gravitino.Comment: 23 pages, 5 figure
Decaying Dark Matter in the Supersymmetric Standard Model with Freeze-in and Seesaw mechanims
Inspired by the decaying dark matter (DM) which can explain cosmic ray
anomalies naturally, we consider the supersymmetric Standard Model with three
right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) and R-parity, and introduce a TeV-scale DM sector
with two fields \phi_{1,2} and a discrete symmetry. The DM sector only
interacts with the RHNs via a very heavy field exchange and then we can explain
the cosmic ray anomalies. With the second right-handed neutrino N_2 dominant
seesaw mechanism at the low scale around 10^4 GeV, we show that \phi_{1,2} can
obtain the vacuum expectation values around the TeV scale, and then the
lightest state from \phi_{1,2} is the decay DM with lifetime around \sim
10^{26}s. In particular, the DM very long lifetime is related to the tiny
neutrino masses, and the dominant DM decay channels to \mu and \tau are related
to the approximate \mu-\tau symmetry. Furthermore, the correct DM relic density
can be obtained via the freeze-in mechanism, the small-scale problem for power
spectrum can be solved due to the decays of the R-parity odd meta-stable states
in the DM sector, and the baryon asymmetry can be generated via the soft
leptogensis.Comment: 24 pages,3 figure

A microscopic theory of gauge mediation
We construct models of indirect gauge mediation where the dynamics
responsible for breaking supersymmetry simultaneously generates a weakly
coupled subsector of messengers. This provides a microscopic realization of
messenger gauge mediation where the messenger and hidden sector fields are
unified into a single sector. The UV theory is SQCD with massless and massive
quarks plus singlets, and at low energies it flows to a weakly coupled quiver
gauge theory. One node provides the primary source of supersymmetry breaking,
which is then transmitted to the node giving rise to the messenger fields.
These models break R-symmetry spontaneously, produce realistic gaugino and
sfermion masses, and give a heavy gravitino.Comment: 24 pages, 2 figures, accepted to JHEP for publicatio
Dark Stars and Boosted Dark Matter Annihilation Rates
Dark Stars (DS) may constitute the first phase of stellar evolution, powered
by dark matter (DM) annihilation. We will investigate here the properties of DS
assuming the DM particle has the required properties to explain the excess
positron and elec- tron signals in the cosmic rays detected by the PAMELA and
FERMI satellites. Any possible DM interpretation of these signals requires
exotic DM candidates, with an- nihilation cross sections a few orders of
magnitude higher than the canonical value required for correct thermal relic
abundance for Weakly Interacting Dark Matter can- didates; additionally in most
models the annihilation must be preferentially to lep- tons. Secondly, we study
the dependence of DS properties on the concentration pa- rameter of the initial
DM density profile of the halos where the first stars are formed. We restrict
our study to the DM in the star due to simple (vs. extended) adiabatic
contraction and minimal (vs. extended) capture; this simple study is sufficient
to illustrate dependence on the cross section and concentration parameter. Our
basic results are that the final stellar properties, once the star enters the
main sequence, are always roughly the same, regardless of the value of boosted
annihilation or concentration parameter in the range between c=2 and c=5:
stellar mass ~ 1000M\odot, luminosity ~ 10^7 L\odot, lifetime ~ 10^6 yrs (for
the minimal DM models considered here; additional DM would lead to more massive
dark stars). However, the lifetime, final mass, and final luminosity of the DS
show some dependence on boost factor and concentration parameter as discussed
in the paper.Comment: 37 pages, 11 figure
The Supersymmetric Standard Models with Decay and Stable Dark Matters
We propose two supersymmetric Standard Models (SMs) with decaying and stable
dark matter (DM) particles. To explain the SM fermion masses and mixings and
have a heavy decay DM particle S, we consider the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism by
introducing an anomalous U(1)_X gauge symmetry. Around the string scale, the
U(1)_X gauge symmetry is broken down to a Z_2 symmetry under which S is odd
while all the SM particles are even. S obtains a vacuum expectation value
around the TeV scale, and then it can three-body decay dominantly to the
second/third family of the SM leptons in Model I and to the first family of the
SM leptons in Model II. Choosing a benchmark point in the constrained minimal
supersymmetric SM with exact R parity, we show that the lightest neutralino DM
is consistent with the CDMS II experiment. Considering S three-body decay and
choosing suitable parameters, we show that the PAMELA and Fermi-LAT experiments
and the PAMELA and ATIC experiments can be explained in Model I and Model II,
respectively.Comment: RevTex4, 26 pages, 6 figures, references added, version to appear in
