    Electromagnetic structure of the deuteron: review of recent theoretical and experimental results

    This talk reviews recent theoretical and experimental results for elastic electron deuteron scattering (yielding the deuteron form factors), threshold electrodisintegration (e+de+p+ne+d\to e'+p+n where the mass of the final npnp pair, WW, is only a few MeV above the threshold value of mp+mnm_p+m_n), and high energy deuteron photodisintegration (γ+dp+n\gamma+d\to p+n). The talk is based on the complete reviews of Refs.     Cluster Interpretation of Properties of Alternating Parity Bands in Heavy Nuclei

    The properties of the states of the alternating parity bands in actinides, Ba, Ce and Nd isotopes are analyzed within a cluster model. The model is based on the assumption that cluster type shapes are produced by the collective motion of the nuclear system in the mass asymmetry coordinate. The calculated spin dependences of the parity splitting and of the electric multipole transition moments are in agreement with the experimental data.Comment: 29 pages, 10 figure

    Polarization observables in high-energy deuteron photodisintegration within the Quark-Gluon Strings Model

    Deuteron two-body photodisintegration is analysed within the framework of the Quark-Gluon Strings Model. The model describes fairly well the recent experimental data from TJNAF in the few GeV region. Angular distributions at different γ\gamma-energies are presented and the effect of a forward-backward asymmetry is discussed.     Measurement of the Cross Section Asymmetry of the Reaction gp-->pi0p in the Resonance Energy Region Eg = 0.5 - 1.1 GeV

    The cross section asymmetry Sigma has been measured for the photoproduction of pi0-mesons off protons, using polarized photons in the energy range Eg = 0.5 - 1.1 GeV. The CM angular coverage is Theta = 85 - 125 deg with energy and angle steps of 25 MeV and 5 deg, respectively. The obtained Sigma data, which cover the second and third resonance regions, are compared with existing experimental data and recent phenomenological analyses. The influence of these measurements on such analyses is also considered

    Mass distributions for induced fission of different Hg isotopes

    With the improved scission-point model the mass distributions are calculated for induced fission of different Hg isotopes with the masses 180-196. The drastic change in the shape of the mass distribution from asymmetric to symmetric is revealed with increasing mass number of the fissioning Hg isotope, and the reactions are proposed to verify this prediction experimentally. The asymmetric mass distribution of fission fragments observed in the recent experiment on the fission of 180Hg is explained. The calculated mass distribution and mean total kinetic energy of fission fragments are in a good agreement with the available experimental data

    Investigation of the quasifission process by theoretical analysis of experimental data of fissionlike reaction products

    The fusion excitation function is the important quantity in planning experiments for the synthesis of superheavy elements. Its values seem to be determined by the experimental study of the hindrance to complete fusion by the observation of mass, angular and energy distributions of the fissionlike fragments. There is ambiguity in establishment of the reaction mechanism leading to the observed binary fissionlike fragments. The fissionlike fragments can be produced in the quasifission, fast fission, and fusion-fission processes which have overlapping in the mass (angular, kinetic energy) distributions of fragments. The branching ratio between quasifission and complete fusion strongly depends on the characteristics of the entrance channel. In this paper we consider a wide set of reactions (with different mass asymmetry and mass symmetry parameters) with the aim to explain the role played by many quantities on the reaction mechanisms. We also present the results of study of the 48^{48}Ca+249^{249}Bk reaction used to synthesize superheavy nuclei with Z = 117 by the determination of the evaporation residue cross sections and the effective fission barriers of excited nuclei formed along the de-excitation cascade of the compound nucleus.Comment: 21 pages, 15 figures, 2 table

    Angular anisotropy of the fusion-fission and quasifission fragments

    The anisotropy in the angular distribution of the fusion-fission and quasifission fragments for the 16^{16}O+238^{238}U, 19^{19}F+208^{208}Pb and 32^{32}S+208^{208}Pb reactions is studied by analyzing the angular momentum distributions of the dinuclear system and compound nucleus which are formed after capture and complete fusion, respectively. The orientation angles of axial symmetry axes of colliding nuclei to the beam direction are taken into account for the calculation of the variance of the projection of the total spin onto the fission axis. It is shown that the deviation of the experimental angular anisotropy from the statistical model picture is connected with the contribution of the quasifission fragments which is dominant in the 32^{32}S+208^{208}Pb reaction. Enhancement of anisotropy at low energies in the 16^{16}O+238^{238}U reaction is connected with quasifission of the dinuclear system having low temperature and effective moment of inertia.Comment: 17 pages 8 figures.     Search for the Production of Element 112 in the 48Ca + 238U Reaction

    We have searched for the production of element 112 in the reaction of 231 MeV 48Ca with 238U. We have not observed any events with a "one event" upper limit cross section of 1.6 pb for EVR-fission events and 1.8 pb for EVR-alpha events.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.

    The helicity dependence of the γppπ0\vec{\gamma} \vec{p} \to p \pi^0 reaction has been measured for the first time in the photon energy range from 550 to 790 MeV. The experiment, performed at the Mainz microtron MAMI, used a 4π\pi-detector system, a circularly polarized, tagged photon beam, and a longitudinally polarized frozen-spin target. These data are predominantly sensitive to the D13(1520)D_{13}(1520) resonance and are used to determine its parameters.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
