    Get PDF
This poster focuses on capturing the temporal evolution of migration-related topics on relevant tweets. It uses Dynamic Embedded Topic Model (DETM) as a learning algorithm to perform a quantitative and qualitative analysis of these emerging topics. TweetsKB is extended with the extracted Twitter dataset along with the results of DETM which considers temporality. These results are then further analyzed and visualized. It reveals that the trajectories of the migration-related topics are in agreement with historical events

Efecto de la competencia de malezas y la densidad de siembra sobre dos cultivares de sorgo granífero (Sorghum bicor)

    Get PDF

Using Semantic Web technologies in the development of data warehouses: A systematic mapping

    Get PDF
The exploration and use of Semantic Web technologies have attracted considerable attention from researchers examining data warehouse (DW) development. However, the impact of this research and the maturity level of its results are still unclear. The objective of this study is to examine recently published research articles that take into account the use of Semantic Web technologies in the DW arena with the intention of summarizing their results, classifying their contributions to the field according to publication type, evaluating the maturity level of the results, and identifying future research challenges. Three main conclusions were derived from this study: (a) there is a major technological gap that inhibits the wide adoption of Semantic Web technologies in the business domain;(b) there is limited evidence that the results of the analyzed studies are applicable and transferable to industrial use; and (c) interest in researching the relationship between DWs and Semantic Web has decreased because new paradigms, such as linked open data, have attracted the interest of researchers. This study was supported by the Universidad de La Frontera, Chile, PROY. Interaction of Cu-dipeptide complexes with Calf Thymus DNA and antiproliferative activity of [Cu(ala-phe)] in osteosarcoma-derived cells

    Get PDF
In this work the study of Calf Thymus DNA interaction with several Cu(l-dipeptide) complexes was reported. The binding stoichiometry (Cu(mmol)/DNAmol base) was determined and in an attempt to clarify the binding mode, EPR and CD experiments were performed. All the studied complexes interacted with DNA, in a more selective way than [Cu(H2O)6]2+, being the [Cu(ala-phe)] the complex with the highest interaction. The EPR experiments suggested that the monomeric species formed in solution were coordinated through a nitrogen atom of the DNA bases (inner-sphere binding) and the CD studies showed structural changes upon the DNA–complex interaction. Besides, the ratio Cu(mmol)/DNAmol base obtained by the binding stoichiometry experiments was close to that found by EPR and CD determinations. The effect on cell proliferation determined by the crystal violet bioassay on UMR106 rat osteosarcoma-derived cells showed that the [Cu(ala-phe)] complex exerted an antiproliferative action against this tumor linePEDECIBA Química (Uruguayan organisations)CNPqCONICETUNLPConsejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC

Other-Sex Friendships in Late Adolescence: Risky Associations for Substance Use and Sexual Debut?

    Get PDF
Adolescents’ friendships with other-sex peers serve important developmental functions, but they may also facilitate engagement in problem behavior. This study examines the unique contributions of other-sex friendships and friends’ behavior to alcohol use, smoking, and initiation of sexual intercourse among late adolescent girls and boys. A total of 320 adolescents (53% girls; 33% racial/ethnic minorities) provided sociometric nominations of friendships annually in grades 10–12. Friendship networks were derived using social network analysis in each grade. Adolescents and their friends also reported on their alcohol use, smoking, and sexual debut at each assessment. After controlling for demographics, previous problem behavior, and friends’ behavior, other-sex friendships in 10th grade were associated with initiation of smoking among girls over the following year, and other-sex friendships in 11th grade were linked with lower levels of subsequent alcohol use among boys. Additionally, friends’ smoking and sexual experience in 10th grade predicted the same behaviors for all adolescents over the following year. Other-sex friendships thus appear to serve as a risk context for adolescent girls’ smoking and a protective context for adolescent boys’ drinking. Promoting mixed-gender activities and friendships among older high school students may be helpful in reducing males’ alcohol use, but may need to incorporate additional components to prevent increases in females’ smoking

DNA methylation in glioblastoma: impact on gene expression and clinical outcome

International audienceBACKGROUND: Changes in promoter DNA methylation pattern of genes involved in key biological pathways have been reported in glioblastoma. Genome-wide assessments of DNA methylation levels are now required to decipher the epigenetic events involved in the aggressive phenotype of glioblastoma, and to guide new treatment strategies. RESULTS: We performed a whole-genome integrative analysis of methylation and gene expression profiles in 40 newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients. We also screened for associations between the level of methylation of CpG sites and overall survival in a cohort of 50 patients uniformly treated by surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy with concomitant and adjuvant temozolomide (STUPP protocol). The methylation analysis identified 616 CpG sites differentially methylated between glioblastoma and control brain, a quarter of which was differentially expressed in a concordant way. Thirteen of the genes with concordant CpG sites displayed an inverse correlation between promoter methylation and expression level in glioblastomas: B3GNT5, FABP7, ZNF217, BST2, OAS1, SLC13A5, GSTM5, ME1, UBXD3, TSPYL5, FAAH, C7orf13, and C3orf14. Survival analysis identified six CpG sites associated with overall survival. SOX10 promoter methylation status (two CpG sites) stratified patients similarly to MGMT status, but with a higher Area Under the Curve (0.78 vs. 0.71, p-value < 5e-04). The methylation status of the FNDC3B, TBX3, DGKI, and FSD1 promoters identified patients with MGMT-methylated tumors that did not respond to STUPP treatment (p-value < 1e-04). CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the first genome-wide integrative analysis of DNA methylation and gene expression profiles obtained from the same GBM cohort. We also present a methylome-based survival analysis for one of the largest uniformly treated GBM cohort ever studied, for more than 27,000 CpG sites. We have identified genes whose expression may be tightly regulated by epigenetic mechanisms and markers that may guide treatment decisions
