A simulation study of linker vacancy distribution and its effect on UiO-66 stability

    Get PDF
In this work, we computationally investigate the impact of the distribution of linker vacancies on the relative stability of defected UiO-66 structures. Analysis of a significant number of defected structures reveals that higher defect numbers correlate with lower stability, but variations in missing linker distribution and orientation contribute to widely differing amorphization pressures. Our results suggest that structures with more evenly distributed vacancies exhibit a positive linear relationship between amorphization pressure and bulk modulus. Furthermore, we found structures with a disproportionate number of missing linkers with the same orientation and structures where a large volume of the framework remains pristine, display outlier behavior in this respect. Evaluation of anisotropic elastic moduli uncovers directional instability in structures with a high number of vacancies with the same orientation. These findings have important implications for designing and optimizing UiO-66-based materials, aiding in defect configuration selection for specific applications.</p

Time lag between metamorphism and crystallization of anatectic granites (Córdoba, Argentina)

SHRIMP and LA-ICP-MS analyses carried out on zircons from the Río de los Sauces granite revealed their metamorphic and igneous nature. The metamorphic zircons yielded an age of 537±4.8 (2σ)Ma that probably predates the onset of the anatexis during the Pampean orogeny. By contrast, the igneous zircons yielded a younger age of 529±6 (2σ)Ma and reflected its crystallization age. These data point to a short time lag of ca. 8Myr between the High Temperature (HT) metamorphic peak and the subsequent crystallization age of the granite. Concordia age of 534±3.8 (2σ)Ma, for both types of zircon populations, can be considered as the mean age of the Pampean HT metamorphism in the Sierras de Córdoba

Estimation of genetic parameters for cheese-making traits in Spanish Churra sheep

Artículo de investigaciónThe global production of sheep milk is growing, and the main industrial use of sheep milk is cheese making. The Spanish Churra sheep breed is one of the most important native dairy breeds in Spain. The present study aimed to estimate genetic parameters for a wide range of traits influencing the cheese-making ability of Churra sheep milk. Using a total of 1,049 Churra ewes, we studied the following cheese-making traits: 4 traits related to milk coagulation properties (rennet coagulation time, curd-firming time, and curd firmness at 30 and 60 min after addition of rennet), 2 traits related to cheese yield (individual laboratory cheese yield and individual laboratory dried curd yield), and 3 traits measuring curd firmness over time (maximum curd firmness, time to attain maximum curd firmness, and syneresis). In addition, a list of milk traits, including the native pH of the milk and several milk production and composition traits (milk yield; the fat, protein, and dried extract percentages; and the somatic cell count), were also analyzed for the studied animals. After discarding the noncoagulating samples (only 3.7%), data of 1,010 ewes were analyzed with multiple-trait animal models by using the restricted maximum likelihood method to estimate (co)variance components, heritabilities, and genetic correlations. In general, the heritability estimates were low to moderate, ranging from 0.08 (for the individual laboratory dried curd yield trait) to 0.42 (for the fat percentage trait). High genetic correlations were found within pairs of related traits (i.e., 0.93 between fat and dried extract percentages, −0.93 between the log of the curd-firming time and curd firmness at 30 min, 0.70 between individual laboratory cheese yield and individual laboratory dried curd yield, and −0.94 between time to attain maximum curd firmness and syneresis). Considering all the information provided here, we suggest that in addition to the current consideration of the protein percentage trait for improving cheese yield traits, the inclusion of the pH of milk as a measured trait in the Churra dairy breeding program would represent an efficient strategy for improving the cheese-making ability of milk from this breed.S

ObjectivesTo determine the attitude of doctors towards the current model of primary care and to calculate its relationship with social and demographic and/or work variables.DesignMulti-centre cross-sectional study.SettingHealth centres in Area II of the Murcia region.ParticipantsAll general practitioners, family doctors and paediatricians in the health centres mentioned (54 in all).Main measurementsThe «Scale of attitudes towards the contents of primary health care» by Ballesteros et al. was used as the tool of evaluation. This scale provides both a total score and a specific score for each of its 7 dimensions.ResultsIn general, doctors´ attitudes were favourable (4.1 points average out of 5). We found a less favourable attitude in the dimension «Inclusion of second-level professionals in primary care», with family doctors most in agreement. The professionals working in centres on the periphery and those without tenure had a more positive attitude towards the current model, for the remaining variables.ConclusionsUnderstanding professionals´ attitudes and the variables related to them may serve as a basis for designing intervention strategies aimed at improving the quality of primary care and for the positive evolution of professionals working in PC

The Sierra de Cachi (Salta, NW Argentina): geological evidence about a Famatinian retro-arc at mid crustal levels

The Cachi mountain ranges, located in Salta (NW Argentina), form an inlier where Neoproterozoic and Paleozoic materials of the Andes crop out in a plutono-metamorphic dome surrounded by Mesozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary rocks. The pre-Mesozoic rocks record a regional metamorphism of low pressure and high temperature conditions, which reached partial melting conditions and was coeval with the intrusion of sheeted granite and trondhjemite plutons. The metamorphic evolution and the emplacement of the plutons took place in an extensional tectonic setting. New U-Pb zircon dating by TIMS and SHRIMP methods yields similar ages for the migmatization (479.7 ± 3.5 Ma) and the emplacement of granites (472.1 ± 11 Ma), constraining the extensional event to Early Ordovician times. We also report the finding of gabbro boulders, which also yield a similar U-Pb SHRIMP zircon age of 477.5 ± 3.9 Ma. So, we propose that the extensional event recognized in Sierra de Cachi took place in a retro-arc setting linked to the Famatinian subduction along the western border of Gondwana.
