Joiner's Interpersonal-Psychological Theory of Suicide (IPTS) considers the interpersonal variables of low social belonging and the perception of being a burden on others as drivers of suicidal ideation. This study has sought to review the empirical evidence on this prediction. In all, 40 studies were found. The findings report a major mediator and moderator role of perceived burdensomeness (PB) and thwarted belongingness (TB) in the relationship between the propensity toward suicide and psychological, social, and environmental factors. As the theory predicts, expecting to find that the interaction of both of these variables would be more closely linked to suicidal ideation, this does not appear to have been fully supported, generally finding a greater significance when they were integrated into separate models. It seems that attributing other forms of relationship with suicide for the variables identified by Joiner would provide IPTS with greater empirical support.

Palacios-Vélez, E., Palacios-Sánchez, L. A., & Espinosa- Espinosa, J. L. January-February, 2018). Evaluation of water use efficiency in irrigated agriculture supported by satellite images. Water Technology and Sciences (in Spanish), 9(1), 31- 38, DOI: 10.24850/j-tyca-2018-01-02.       To evaluate the water use efficiency is a necessary condition to improve water productivity. The overall water use efficiency is the product of conveyance efficiency in the largest and minor irrigation canal systems, multiplied by the application efficiency at the users´ plots. Conveyance efficiency is achieved by measuring the water delivered at the irrigated plots between the amounts of water taken from the sources of supply. These measurements are generally carried out by the personnel operating the irrigation systems. In most of the districts, these measurements are usually carried mandatory to report to the National Water Commission, with a variable precision. However, the water application efficiency in the users´ plots is much more difficult to be done, because the measurement of water consumption by plants is not easy to assess. Indeed, the efficiency in plot irrigation, is the ratio of crop water evapotranspiration between the amounts of water applied, both measurements are difficult to perform. However, in recent years it has been possible to estimate water consumption by crops using satellite imagery. Thus, in this paper, a methodology used in the Mayo River Irrigation District in Sonora, Mexico is shown for the last agricultural cycle 2015-2016 using Landsat 7 and 8 satellite images, with acceptable results. This methodology is based on the PLEIADES project 2007 – 2010

Haematological parameters in a free-ranging population of Didelphis virginiana from Mexico

The American opossum Didelphis virginiana is the marsupial species with the largest geographic distribution in North America, a very important natural host and key to the maintenance and transmission of many zoonotic pathogenic microorganisms of importance in public health, and one of the wild mammals with the greatest adaptation to the human environment, but despite all that very little is known about some physiological aspects in their free-ranging populations. In the present study, basic haematological parameters of 201 opossums from a synanthropic population of D. virginiana in a rural locality of the state of Yucatan, are first described. The average values of haemoglobin, packed cell volume, red blood cells, and eosinophils were higher in males and adults (except eosinophils) than in females and juveniles, respectively, and juvenile opossums had higher values of lymphocytes, neutrophils, and platelets than males. Non-pregnant females had significantly higher values of mean corpuscular volume, lymphocytes and platelets than pregnant ones, while red blood cell count and segmented neutrophils showed higher values in pregnant females. The establishment of the basic haematological parameters for free-ranging populations of D. virginiana is a very useful reference for both the health monitoring of the populations and further studying the host-parasite relationship of some zoonotic pathogens present in the Yucatan Peninsula

La Educación Financiera y su Contribución al Desarrollo Sustentable en México

    Get PDF

Influence of nanoparticle morphology and its dispersion ability regarding thermal properties of water used as phase change material

    Get PDF
Nanoparticles with different morphologies were added to water to study if the morphology of the nanoparticles affects the main parameters of water used as phase change material (PCM). Considered morphologies were spherical, tubes and sheets in the form of spherical carbon black nanoparticles (CB), multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), and graphene oxide nanosheets (GO). Results demonstrate that effectively the morphology of nanoparticles affect the thermophysical properties of the nano-enhanced PCM (NePCM). Depending on the morphology of the added nanoparticle, the final NePCM will have different subcooling and thermal conductivity, whereas its phase change enthalpy is not affected and, therefore, is the same for all produced NePCM

We sincerely appreciate the work done by Mahato [1] in which a qualitative classification of the sacrum is done to determine the number of segments, position of auricular surfaces, symmetry and abnormalities. This work is of the utmost importance since it is crucial for several surgical interventions and at the same time correlates certain pathologies with the morphology, mostly low back pai

Simultaneous carriage of mcr-1 and other antimicrobial resistance determinants in Escherichia coli from poultry

The use of antimicrobial growth promoters (AGPs) in sub-therapeutic doses for long periods promotes the selection of resistant microorganisms and the subsequent risk of spreading this resistance to the human population and the environment. Global concern about antimicrobial resistance development and transference of resistance genes from animal to human has been rising. The goal of our research was to evaluate the susceptibility pattern to different classes of antimicrobials of colistin-resistant Escherichia coli from poultry production systems that use AGPs, and characterize the resistance determinants associated to transferable platforms. E. coli strains (n = 41) were obtained from fecal samples collected from typical Argentine commercial broiler farms and susceptibility for 23 antimicrobials, relevant for human or veterinary medicine, was determined. Isolates were tested by PCR for the presence of mcr-1, extended spectrum β-lactamase encoding genes and plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) coding genes. Conjugation and susceptibility patterns of the transconjugant studies were performed. ERIC-PCR and REP-PCR analysis showed a high diversity of the isolates. Resistance to several antimicrobials was determined and all colistin-resistant isolates harbored the mcr-1 gene. CTX-M-2 cefotaximase was the main mechanism responsible for third generation cephalosporins resistance, and PMQR determinants were also identified. In addition, co-transference of the qnrB determinant on the mcr-1-positive transconjugants was corroborated, which suggests that these resistance genes are likely to be located in the same plasmid. In this work a wide range of antimicrobial resistance mechanisms were identified in E. coli strains isolated from the environment of healthy chickens highlighting the risk of antimicrobial abuse/misuse in animals under intensive production systems and its consequences for public health.Instituto de PatobiologíaFil: Dominguez, Johana Elizabeth. Primary lymphomas of the appendix occur in 0.015% of all gastrointestinal lymphomas. The most common manifestation is acute appendicitis secondary to luminal obstruction. The most common is immunophenotype B low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma. A 53-year-old male, with a previous three-week surgical history due to acute appendicitis, histopathological report of acute appendicitis and lymphoid hyperplasia. Later, he was admitted, with abdominal pain in the right iliac fossa, an abdominal ultrasound and simple abdominal tomography were performed, with suspicion of residual abscess. Surgical intervention is decided, observing paracecal tumor in the emergency site of the appendix, the tumor is removed. Pathological study that reports an appendicular base infiltrated by mucosa-associated lymphoma. The diagnosis of appendicular tumors is mostly, intraoperatively incidental. It is necessary to have the diagnostic possibility when performing an appendectomy, since it changes the prognosis and treatment of the patient

    Get PDF
