Ultimate pressures achieved in TiZrV sputter-coated vacuum chambers

    Get PDF
Two metre long, cylindrical vacuum chambers of diameter ranging from 34 to 100 mm, coated with TiZrV getter films by sputtering, have been baked for about 24 h at temperatures from 120 to 250 degrees C. The ultimate pressures achieved after bakeout were found to correspond to the ratio of the pressure gauge degassing to the effective pumping speed provided by the chamber at the location of the gauge. The results covering a pressure range from 10/sup -11/ Torr down to 10 /sup -13/ Torr are presented and discussed. (6 refs)

Structural and mechanical properties of nanocrystalline Zr co-sputtered a-C(:H) amorphous films

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Zr as alloying element to carbon films, particularly in respect to film structure and mechanical properties. The films were deposited by magnetron sputtering in reactive (Ar + CH4) and non-reactive (Ar) atmosphere with different Zr contents (from 0 to 14 at.%) in order to achieve a nanocomposite based films. With an increase of Zr content a broad peak was observed in X-ray diffraction spectra suggesting the presence of nanocrystalline (nc) ZrC phase for the coatings with Zr content higher than 4 at.%. The application of Scherrer formula yielded a grain sizes with a dimension of 1.0–2.2 nm. These results were supported by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showing typical charge transfer at Zr-C nanograins and carbon matrix interface. The nc-ZrC phase was also observed by transmission electron microscopy. The hardness of the coatings was approximately independent of Zr content. However, the Young modulus increased linearly. The residual stress of the coatings was strongly improved by the presence of nc-ZrC phase embedded in the a-C matrix. Finally, the incorporation of H into the matrix led to denser and harder films

Mixture models of geometric distributions in genomic analysis of inter-nucleotide distances

    Get PDF
The mapping defined by inter-nucleotide distances (InD) provides a reversible numerical representation of the primary structure of DNA. If nucleotides were independently placed along the genome, a finite mixture model of four geometric distributions could be fitted to the InD where the four marginal distributions would be the expected distributions of the four nucleotide types. We analyze a finite mixture model of geometric distributions (f2), with marginals not explicitly addressed to the nucleotide types, as an approximation to the InD. We use BIC in the composite likelihood framework for choosing the number of components of the mixture and the EM algorithm for estimating the model parameters. Based on divergence profiles, an experimental study was carried out on the complete genomes of 45 species to evaluate f2. Although the proposed model is not suited to the InD, our analysis shows that divergence profiles involving the empirical distribution of the InD are also exhibited by profiles involving f2. It suggests that statistical regularities of the InD can be described by the model f2. Some characteristics of the DNA sequences captured by the model f2 are illustrated. In particular, clusterings of subgroups of eukaryotes (primates, mammalians, animals and plants) are detected

Vacuum properties of TiZrV non-evaporable getter films

Sputter-deposited thin films of TiZrV are fully activated after 24 h "in situ" heating at 180 °C. This activation temperature is the lowest of some 18 different getter coatings studied so far, and it allows the use of the getter thin film technology with aluminium alloy vacuum chambers, which cannot be baked at temperatures higher than 200 °C.An updated review is given of the most recent results obtained on TiZrV coatings, covering the following topics: influence of the elemental composition and crystal structure on activation temperature, discharge gas trapping and degassing, dependence of pumping speed and surface saturation capacity on film morphology, ageing consequent to activation-air venting cycles and ultimate pressures. Furthermore, the results obtained when exposing a coated particle beam chamber to synchrotron radiation in a real accelerator environment (ESRF Grenoble) are presented and discussed

The municipality of Lins, in the state of São Paulo, has undergone significant transformations in Mental Health Care, evolving from a hospital reference model to a territorial and community-based model. This work aims to carry out a historical retrospective of the changes that have occurred, describing the actions of psychosocial assistance, promotion, prevention and rehabilitation through the implementation of substitutive services integrated into primary care, pointing to the solutions that can fulfill the principles of Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS - National Health System). The priority was the implementation of Centros de Atenção Psicossocial (Psychosocial Care Centers), which are strategic devices to favor social insertion. The Municipal Management has made significant technical and financial investments that have enabled the consolidation of the National Mental Health Policy, extending inter-sector articulations.

Approximate confidence intervals for a linear combination of binomial proportions: A new variant

    Get PDF
We propose a new adjustment for constructing an improved version of theWald interval for linear combinations of binomial proportions, which addresses the presence of extremal samples. A comparative simulation study was carried out to investigate the performance of this new variant with respect to the exact coverage probability, expected interval length, and mesial and distal noncoverage probabilities. Additionally, we discuss the application of a criterion for interpreting interval location in the case of small samples and/or in situations in which extremal observations exist. The confidence intervals obtained from the new variant performed better for some evaluation measures
