Correlation of minimum apparent diffusion coefficient with maximum standardized uptake on fluorodeoxyglucose PET-CT in patients with rectal adenocarcinoma

    Get PDF
PURPOSE:The aim of this study was to retrospectively assess the correlation between minimum apparent diffusion coefficient (ADCmin) values obtained from diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and maximum standardized uptake values (SUVmax) obtained from positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) in rectal cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-one patients with pathologically confirmed rectal adenocarcinoma were included in this study. For preoperative staging, PET-CT and pelvic MRI with diffusion-weighted imaging were performed within one week (mean time interval, 3±1 day). For ADC measurements, the region of interest (ROI) was manually drawn along the border of each hyperintense tumor on b=1000 s/mm2 images. After repeating this procedure on each consecutive tumor-containing slice to cover the entire tumoral area, ROIs were copied to ADC maps. ADCmin was determined as the lowest ADC value among all ROIs in each tumor. For SUVmax measurements, whole-body images were assessed visually on transaxial, sagittal, and coronal images. ROIs were determined from the lesions observed on each slice, and SUVmax values were calculated automatically. The mean values of ADCmin and SUVmax were compared using Spearman’s test. RESULTS:The mean ADCmin was 0.62±0.19×10-3 mm2/s (range, 0.368–1.227×10-3 mm2/s), the mean SUVmax was 20.07±9.3 (range, 4.3–49.5). A significant negative correlation was found between ADCmin and SUVmax (r=-0.347; P = 0.026). CONCLUSION:There was a significant negative correlation between the ADCmin and SUVmax values in rectal adenocarcinomas

A 26-year-old female patient, who presented to the emergency department with chronic renal failure, general condition disturbance and dyspnea, was intubated due to low oxygen saturation. The results of the blood biochemical test were normal except for low saturation. Our case did not have any coronary artery disease or obstructive pulmonary disease. While she was undergoing the positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) treatment in the intensive care unit, the patient was detected to have right heart failure on her echocardiogram examination and pneumomediastinum was found on her direct radiography examination and on chest x-ray and computed tomography (CT) on the 2nd day of her hospitalization. The development of pneumomediastinum associated with PEEP for low saturation appears to be a rare phenomenon. In accompany with the findings of the case, the examination data and the literature information were prepared as a case report.

COVID-19 vaccinations: summary guidance for Cancer patients in 28Languages: breaking barriers to Cancer patient Information

    Get PDF
Background: Covid-19 vaccination has started in the majority of the countries at the global level. Cancer patients are at high risk for infection, serious illness, and death from COVID-19 and need vaccination guidance and support. Guidance availability in the English language only is a major limit for recommendations' delivery and their application in the world's population and generates information inequalities across the different populations. Methods: Most of the available COVID-19 vaccination guidance for cancer patients was screened and scrutinized by the European Cancer Patients Coalition (ECPC) and an international oncology panel of 52 physicians from 33 countries. Results: A summary guidance was developed and provided in 28 languages in order to reach more than 70 percent of the global population. Conclusion: Language barrier and e-guidance availability in the native language are the most important barriers when communicating with patients. E-guidance availability in various native languages should be considered a major priority by international medical and health organizations that are communicating with patients at the global level.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The Sariçiçek Howardite Fall in Turkey: Source Crater of HED Meteorites on Vesta and İmpact Risk of Vestoids

The Sariçiçek howardite meteorite shower consisting of 343 documented stones occurred on 2 September 2015 in Turkey and is the first documented howardite fall. Cosmogenic isotopes show that Sariçiçek experienced a complex cosmic ray exposure history, exposed during ~12–14 Ma in a regolith near the surface of a parent asteroid, and that an ~1 m sized meteoroid was launched by an impact 22 ± 2 Ma ago to Earth (as did one third of all HED meteorites). SIMS dating of zircon and baddeleyite yielded 4550.4 ± 2.5 Ma and 4553 ± 8.8 Ma crystallization ages for the basaltic magma clasts. The apatite U-Pb age of 4525 ± 17 Ma, K-Ar age of ~3.9 Ga, and the U,Th-He ages of 1.8 ± 0.7 and 2.6 ± 0.3 Ga are interpreted to represent thermal metamorphic and impact-related resetting ages, respectively. Petrographic, geochemical and O-, Cr- and Tiisotopic studies confirm that Sariçiçek belongs to the normal clan of HED meteorites. Petrographic observations and analysis of organic material indicate a small portion of carbonaceous chondrite material in the Sariçiçek regolith and organic contamination of the meteorite after a few days on soil. Video observations of the fall show an atmospheric entry at 17.3 ± 0.8 kms-1 from NW, fragmentations at 37, 33, 31 and 27 km altitude, and provide a pre-atmospheric orbit that is the first dynamical link between the normal HED meteorite clan and the inner Main Belt. Spectral data indicate the similarity of Sariçiçek with the Vesta asteroid family (V-class) spectra, a group of asteroids stretching to delivery resonances, which includes (4) Vesta. Dynamical modeling of meteoroid delivery to Earth shows that the complete disruption of a ~1 km sized Vesta family asteroid or a ~10 km sized impact crater on Vesta is required to provide sufficient meteoroids ≤4 m in size to account for the influx of meteorites from this HED clan. The 16.7 km diameter Antonia impact crater on Vesta was formed on terrain of the same age as given by the 4He retention age of Sariçiçek. Lunar scaling for crater production to crater counts of its ejecta blanket show it was formed ~22 Ma ago

12th International Conference of the European-Academy-of-Design (EAD) -- APR 12-14, 2017 -- Sapienza Univ Rome, Fac Architecture, Rome, ITALYWOS: 000419738000046Design management has evolved from the simple view as the management of design projects and processes, to include more upstream responsibilities and skills, at the intersection of design and strategic management. Recent literature highlights the role of design in leading and shaping company strategy, conceiving new business models, and in driving organizational change and renewal. Yet existing tools and frameworks for assessing design management capabilities fall short in catching up with the transition that has been undergoing in the ways design is utilized and managed inside organizations. This paper presents a new Design Management Audit Framework that aims to fill the gaps in existing tools by incorporating new capabilities that are increasingly emphasized by the emerging design, design management and strategic management literature. The tool also seeks to provide an answer to the question: "What are the new capabilities to be integrated into design management practices of our future economies?"European Academy of Desig
