Towards a unified model representation of machine learning knowledge
Nowadays, Machine Learning (ML) algorithms are being widely applied in virtually all possible scenarios.
However, developing a ML project entails the effort of many ML experts who have to select and configure
the appropriate algorithm to process the data to learn from, between other things. Since there exist thousands
of algorithms, it becomes a time-consuming and challenging task. To this end, recently, AutoML emerged to
provide mechanisms to automate parts of this process. However, most of the efforts focus on applying brute
force procedures to try different algorithms or configuration and select the one which gives better results.
To make a smarter and more efficient selection, a repository of knowledge is necessary. To this end, this
paper proposes (1) an approach towards a common language to consolidate the current distributed knowledge
sources related the algorithm selection in ML, and (2) a method to join the knowledge gathered through this
language in a unified store that can be exploited later on. The preliminary evaluations of this approach allow
to create a unified store collecting the knowledge of 13 different sources and to identify a bunch of research
lines to conduct.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2016-76956-C3-2-RCentro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial P009-18/E0
Analyzing Variable Human Actions for Robotic Process Automation
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) provides a means to
automate mundane and repetitive human tasks. Task Mining approaches
can be used to discover the actions that humans take to carry out a
particular task. A weakness of such approaches, however, is that they
cannot deal well with humans who carry out the same task differently
for different cases according to some hidden rule. The logs that are used
for Task Mining generally do not contain sufficient data to distinguish
the exact drivers behind this variability. In this paper, we propose a new
Task Mining framework that has been designed to support engineers who
wish to apply RPA to a task that is subject to variable human actions.
This framework extracts features from User Interface (UI) Logs that
are extended with a new source of data, namely screen captures. The
framework invokes Supervised Machine Learning algorithms to generate
decision models, which characterize the decisions behind variable human
actions in a machine-and-human-readable form. We evaluated the pro posed Task Mining framework with a set of synthetic UI Logs. Despite
the use of only relatively small logs, our results demonstrate that a high
accuracy is generally achieved.Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades PID2019-105455GB-C31 (NICO)Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI) EXP 00130458/IDI-20210319-P018-20/E09 (CODICE
Two deep learning approaches to forecasting disaggregated freight flows: convolutional and encoder–decoder recurrent
Time series forecasting of disaggregated freight flow is a key issue in decision-making by port authorities. For this purpose
and to test new deep learning techniques we have selected seven time series of imported goods from Morocco to Spain
through the port of Algeciras, and we have tested two forecasting deep neural networks models: dilated causal
convolutional and encoder–decoder recurrent. We have experimented with four different granularities for each series:
quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily. The results show that our neural network models can manage these raw series without
first removing seasonality or trend. We also highlight the ability of neural models to work with a fixed input size of one
year, being able to make good predictions using the same input size for all granularities. The two deep learning models have
globally improved the benchmarks of the M4 Competition of forecasting. Each neural network model obtains its best results
under different circumstances: the recurrent one with daily granularity and intermittent series, and the convolutional one
with weekly and monthly granularitie

p38γ and p38δ regulate postnatal cardiac metabolism through glycogen synthase 1
During the first weeks of postnatal heart development, cardiomyocytes undergo a major adaptive metabolic shift from glycolytic energy production to fatty acid oxidation. This metabolic change is contemporaneous to the up-regulation and activation of the p38γ and p38δ stress-activated protein kinases in the heart. We demonstrate that p38γ/δ contribute to the early postnatal cardiac metabolic switch through inhibitory phosphorylation of glycogen synthase 1 (GYS1) and glycogen metabolism inactivation. Premature induction of p38γ/δ activation in cardiomyocytes of newborn mice results in an early GYS1 phosphorylation and inhibition of cardiac glycogen production, triggering an early metabolic shift that induces a deficit in cardiomyocyte fuel supply, leading to whole-body metabolic deregulation and maladaptive cardiac pathogenesis. Notably, the adverse effects of forced premature cardiac p38γ/δ activation in neonate mice are prevented by maternal diet supplementation of fatty acids during pregnancy and lactation. These results suggest that diet interventions have a potential for treating human cardiac genetic diseases that affect heart metabolism.G.S. is a YIP EMBO member.
