Estudio cualitativo sobre los significados de la Medicina Complementaria y Alternativa para el cáncer en estudiantes de Ciencias de la Salud
Social representations (SR) have always been a fundamental concept for psychology (Moscovici, 1973). This qualitative study uses the concept of SR, applied to the Health's field; the aim is to analyze the SR of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) for cancer in students of Health Sciences, using the methodology of thematic analysis. Results indicate that the SR of CAM have been developed based on many different elements, but where prevails an objectification and anchoring of CAM on what is common and familiar, rather than based on scientific knowledge. This to reflect on the training of future professionals and their practices in curing cancer. © 2018 Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
Quasi-Exactly Solvable N-Body Spin Hamiltonians with Short-Range Interaction Potentials
We review some recent results on quasi-exactly solvable spin models presenting near-neighbors interactions. These systems can be understood as cyclic generalizations of the usual Calogero-Sutherland models. A nontrivial modification of the exchange operator formalism is used to obtain several infinite families of eigenfunctions of these models in closed form
Inozemtsev's hyperbolic spin model and its related spin chain
In this paper we study Inozemtsev's su(m) quantum spin model with hyperbolic
interactions and the associated spin chain of Haldane-Shastry type introduced
by Frahm and Inozemtsev. We compute the spectrum of Inozemtsev's model, and use
this result and the freezing trick to derive a simple analytic expression for
the partition function of the Frahm-Inozemtsev chain. We show that the energy
levels of the latter chain can be written in terms of the usual motifs for the
Haldane-Shastry chain, although with a different dispersion relation. The
formula for the partition function is used to analyze the behavior of the level
density and the distribution of spacings between consecutive unfolded levels.
We discuss the relevance of our results in connection with two well-known
conjectures in quantum chaos.Comment: 22 pages, RevTeX, 7 figure
The boson peak in structural and orientational glasses of simple alcohols: Specific heat at low temperatures
We review in this work specific-heat experiments, that we have conducted on
different hydrogen-bonded glasses during last years. Specifically, we have
measured the low-temperature specific heat Cp for a set of glassy alcohols:
normal and fully-deuterated ethanol, 1- and 2- propanol, and glycerol. Ethanol
exhibits a very interesting polymorphism presenting three different solid
phases at low temperature: a fully-ordered (monoclinic) crystal, an
orientationally-disordered (cubic) crystal or 'orientational glass', and the
ordinary structural glass. By measuring and comparing the low-temperature
specific heat of the three phases, in the 'boson peak' range 2-10 K as well as
in the tunneling-states range below 1K, we are able to provide a quantitative
confirmation that ''glassy behavior'' is not an exclusive property of amorphous
solids. On the other hand, propanol is the simplest monoalcohol with two
different stereoisomers (1- and 2-propanol), what allows us to study directly
the influence of the spatial rearrangement of atoms on the universal properties
of glasses. We have measured the specific heat of both isomers, finding a
noteworthy quantitative difference between them. Finally, low-temperature
specific-heat data of glassy glycerol have also been obtained. Here we propose
a simple method based upon the soft-potential model to analyze low-temperature
specific-heat measurements, and we use this method for a quantitative
comparison of all these data of glassy alcohols and as a stringent test of
several universal correlations and scaling laws suggested in the literature. In
particular, we find that the interstitialcy model for the boson peak [A. V.
Granato, Phys. Rev. Lett. 68 (1992) 974] gives a very good account of the
temperature at which the maximum in Cp/T^3 occurs.Comment: 16 pages, 2 figures, Proceedings of the 4th International Discussion

An exactly solvable supersymmetric spin chain of BC_N type
We construct a new exactly solvable supersymmetric spin chain related to the
BC_N extended root system, which includes as a particular case the BC_N version
of the Polychronakos-Frahm spin chain. We also introduce a supersymmetric spin
dynamical model of Calogero type which yields the new chain in the large
coupling limit. This connection is exploited to derive two different
closed-form expressions for the chain's partition function by means of
Polychronakos's freezing trick. We establish a boson-fermion duality relation
for the new chain's spectrum, which is in fact valid for a large class of (not
necessarily integrable) spin chains of BC_N type. The exact expressions for the
partition function are also used to study the chain's spectrum as a whole,
showing that the level density is normally distributed even for a moderately
large number of particles. We also determine a simple analytic approximation to
the distribution of normalized spacings between consecutive levels which fits
the numerical data with remarkable accuracy. Our results provide further
evidence that spin chains of Haldane-Shastry type are exceptional integrable
models, in the sense that their spacings distribution is not Poissonian, as
posited by the Berry-Tabor conjecture for "generic'' quantum integrable
systems.Comment: 36 pages, 7 figure
