Employability Education: The Nexus between Education and Market Needs

    Get PDF
This paper aims to focus on the literature of employability skills education. The research done investigates the compelling reasons behind the need for employability skills education as a means to achieving economic development. First, the research shows us evidence that there is a gap between education and market needs. It uncovers how the phenomenon of a massive increase in enrollment rates did not actually achieve the desired outcomes in terms of economic development. Following this, the research shows us that the need for anew strategy to connect studying with reality has become pressing. Next, the research further digs into the meaning of employability, employability education, its importance, and the need for its provision. It also looks at some examples of employability education provision in the developed world and highlights the western trend to consolidate employability education through public policy and International Conventions. Finally, the research sheds light on some critiques of employability education as well as further discussion and recommendations for ways to measure and apply the concept of employability

Isolated Single-stage Power Electronic Building Blocks Using Medium Voltage Series-stacked Wide-bandgap Switches

The demand for efficient power conversion systems that can process the energy at high power and voltage levels is increasing every day. These systems are to be used in microgrid applications. Wide-bandgap semiconductor devices (i.e. Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) devices) are very promising candidates due to their lower conduction and switching losses compared to the state-of-the-art Silicon (Si) devices. The main challenge for these devices is that their breakdown voltages are relatively lower compared to their Si counterpart. In addition, the high frequency operation of the wide-bandgap devices are impeded in many cases by the magnetic core losses of the magnetic coupling components (i.e. coupled inductors and/or high frequency transformers) utilized in the power converter circuit. Six new dc-dc converter topologies are propose. The converters have reduced voltage stresses on the switches. Three of them are unidirectional step-up converters with universal input voltage which make them excellent candidates for photovoltaic and fuel cell applications. The other three converters are bidirectional dc-dc converters with wide voltage conversion ratios. These converters are very good candidates for the applications that require bidirectional power flow capability. In addition, the wide voltage conversion ratios of these converters can be utilized for applications such as energy storage systems with wide voltage swings

The study aimed at revealing the psychological and social effects of the families of handicapped people during COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The triangulation approach was used that gives a deeper understanding of the results derived from quantitative and qualitative data, and a questionnaire prepared by researchers was applied to (142) families with intellectual disabilities, autism disorder, visual impairment, physical and health disabilities, and a semi-structured interview was used with ( 15) of these respondents to find out the most important psychological and social impacts of the families of handicapped people. The psychometric properties of the study tools were verified. The data were analysed quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitative results show that participants have an average level of psychosocial impacts for the families of handicapped people. Furthermore, there were no differences in the psychological and social effects in general between the Egyptian and Saudi societies, while it was found that there were differences in psychological pressure as one of the psychological effects between the two societies for Egyptian society.  Quantitative statistics were supported by qualitative data. Also, the qualitative analysis revealed that there were four dimensions related to the psychological and social effects of the families of handicapped people. They are: the presence of psychological effects ranging from high to medium, the presence of moderate social effects, the presence of moderate economic effects, the finding also indicated that the ranking of psychological effects and social issues for different groups of disabilities depends on their families according to  (intellectual disability, autism disorder, physical and health disabilities, visual disabilities). The study provided several recommendations. The families of handicapped people especially mothers must be supported and provided with specific training programs that suit different disability groups

Assessment for the Environmental Impacts of Chemical Constituents’ Percentage Variation for Ceramic Manufacturing

Ceramic tile manufacturing process is energy intensive since within several stages the product is subject to thermal treatment. The source of thermal energy used is by combustion of natural gas. Unfortunately, the oxidation of this fossil fuel produces greenhouse gases. The impact severity on environment and humans is influenced by the chemical composition of ceramic. Hence the objective of this research is to study the effect of changing the percentage of seven samples with the most effective composition of ceramic used in many countries.  The selected impact categories for the study were global warming, Climate change, acidification, eutrophication, and human toxicity. The constituents’ percentages of ceramic manufacturing have been evaluated using GABI vs OpenLCA. It was found that lowering the percentage of Silicon dioxide in the mixture from 51.01% to 87.8 leads to an overall emission reduction of 28% and the differences between the results were close for both software
