Assuming the neuter genre in knowledge organization theory and practice
[Resumen]
El objetivo de esta investigación es contribuir a los estudios de crítica sobre género y organización del
conocimiento y las organizaciones prestando especial interés a si la estructura de ambas es sexista o no.
A lo largo de este estudio se discute si la teoría y práctica de la organización del conocimiento están masculinizadas
y se analizan los sistemas de organización del conocimiento y de las organizaciones señalando
su relevancia e implicaciones.
Las diferentes teorías sobre la organización del conocimiento conllevan distintos planteamientos sobre la
construcción del género. Para el desarrollo futuro de nuevas teorías y prácticas en la organización del conocimiento
es necesario tomar conciencia de la construcción del género. Se hace necesario que las cuestiones de
género en estos ámbitos no se asuman como algo implícito tal y como se ha venido haciendo hasta la fecha.
Prestaremos especial atención a cómo se escribe el género en la organización del conocimiento y a qué
lenguaje se utiliza para construir el conocimiento que representa a unos y no a todas a pesar de la asunción
del género neutro.
Veremos que la teoría de la organización acepta la visión masculina y sus valores como statu quo y consecuentemente
contribuye a la perpetuación de la desigualdad de los géneros en las prácticas institucionalizadas.[Abstract]
The aim of this research is to contribute to criticism studies on genre and knowledge organization and
organizations. We will pay special attention to sexism in their structure.
Along this study, we will discuss whether knowledge organization theory and practice are masculinized.
We will focus on knowledge organization systems indicating its relevance and implications.
Different theories on knowledge organization have different perspectives on genre construction. It is
necessary to become aware of genre construction for a future development of new knowledge organization theories and practices. It is necessary that genre related matters are not assumed as something implicit in
this field as it has generally been done hitherto.
We will pay special attention to genre in knowledge organization. Also, we will centre our attention on the
language used to build up knowledge; a language that tends to represent a part of us and not all of us, in
spite of the assumption of the neuter genre.
We will see that organization theory accepts the male vision and its values as a status quo and consequently,
it contributes to institutionalized practices genre inequality perpetuation

vínculo que se estableció entre Irlanda y

DEHUMANIZING WOMEN IN ADVERTISING: AN ANALYSIS OF BRAND NAME PERFUMES
El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar las palabras y las imágenes utilizadas por anunciantes al nombrar y dar
a conocer las fragancias de perfumes. Nos centraremos en las referencias que nombres e imágenes tienen, así
como en las connotaciones que estos nombres de fragancias y las imágenes llevan con ellos evidenciando que
son una clara evidencia de la sexualización de las niñas y las mujeres en la publicidad de algunas fragancias. El
sexo se convierte en un capítulo fundamental de la publicidad de perfumes para vender el producto convenciendo
al público con mujeres que se convierten en objetos carentes de identidad y valor. En relación a las palabras, los
nombres de perfumes derivan de las palabras comunes del habla cotidiana, su nombre puede ser casi cualquier
vocablo, sin embargo, dependiendo de la persona o en la comunidad, esta referencia será diferenteThe aim of this piece of writing is to provide an analysis of the words and images used by advertisers when
naming and publicizing fragrances. We will also focus on the references that these names and images
have as well as on the connotations or implications that these fragrance names and images carry with
them. We review some fragrances names and images that are a clear evidence of the sexualization of girls
and women in advertising.Sex becomes a fundamental aspect of advertising perfume, advertisers agree to
try to convince the public not just with their fragrance, in all cases analyzed include women posing nude or
naked, falling into the mistake of turning women into decorative objects without further, lacking identity and

The Parlement of the Thre Ages: some notes on the place of origin of one of its manuscripts
[Abstract] The central goal of the present study is to explore the geographical origins of T, one of the manuscripts of the medieval alliterative poem. The Parlement of the Thre Ages (British Museum, MS 31042). For this purpose we will make use of Offord’ s edition of the poem as well as of A Linguistic Atlas of Late Mediaeval English. Following Gillieron’ s proposal (1918: 1– 18) that every word has its own history and dialectal distribution in Middle English we will pay attention to written variations in this text and disregard pronunciation so as to achieve an exact localisation for them. To this end we will make use of the fit-technique. In particular, an effort has been made to demonstrate how this Atlas can be used as well as to show the way in which any medieval manuscript may be located in a particular place in England by means of this powerful tool. A description and analysis of the corpus opens this study. It is followed by a detailed account of A Linguistic Atlas of Late Mediaeval Englis hand the fit-technique. The next step towards achieving our goal is, perhaps, the most disclosing. The poem is analysed by means of the above mentioned fit-technique and then the place of origin not only of the scribe who copied the T version of The Parlement of the Thre Ages but also that of the author are found out. Some theories about the areas from which the poem originally came will also be contrasted here
Francisca Álvarez González, pioneira da alfabetização de adultos em La Coruña
The path to equality is full of women whose work and contribution to social wellbeing has remained invisible. It is our aim to restore the still living memory of an entrepreneur and pioneering woman providing adults’ literacy skills and basic education: Mrs. Francisca Álvarez González. Previous research on her is minimum and that is one of the main reasons why we have decided to restore of her memory from oblivion. Our methodological research strategy has been qualitative. We have reconstructed her life history by means of several unstructured interviews and an examination of personal documentation belonging to the family archive. She was an Orensian pioneer for alphabetization in La Coruña and Cambre. She contributed not only to its inhabitants’ education but also to the economic growth of the area. Our findings show the huge impact of this Galician woman on her area of influence, more complex than thought. This research gives back to History a part of the biography of one of our great womenEl camino hacia la igualdad está lleno de mujeres cuya labor y contribución al bienestar social ha quedado invisibilizada. Nuestro objetivo es recuperar la memoria aún viva de una mujer pionera en la alfabetización y educación de mayores, así como empresaria: Doña Francisca Álvarez González. Apenas se ha hecho investi-gación sobre ella, siendo esta una de las razones fundamentales que nos ha motivado a restaurar su memoria del olvido. La estrategia metodológica de investigación es cualitativa. Se ha reconstruido su historia de vida por medio de diversas entrevistas no estructuradas y un examen de las fuentes documentales personales que pertenecen al archivo familiar. Fue una orensana pionera en la alfabetización de adultos en A Coruña y en Cambre, contribuyendo a la educación de sus habitantes y al crecimiento económico de la zona. Nuestros hallazgos ponen de manifiesto el amplio impacto de esta gallega en su área, más complejo de lo que hasta el momento ha salido a la luz. Los resultados obtenidos tras esta investigación devuelven a la historia la biografía de una de nuestras grandes mujeresO caminho para a igualdade está cheio de mulheres cujo trabalho e contribuição para o bem-estar social se tornaram invisíveis. É nosso objetivo resgatar a memória ainda viva de uma mulher pioneira na alfabetização e educação de idosos, além de empresária: Dona Francisca Álvarez González. Poucas pesquisas foram feitas sobre ela, sendo esta uma das razões fundamentais que nos motivou a resgatar sua memória do esquecimento.A estratégia metodológica da pesquisa é qualitativa. A sua História de Vida foi reconstruída através de várias entrevistas não estruturadas e do exame das fontes documentais pessoais que pertencem ao arquivo familiar.Foi pioneira de Ourense na alfabetização de adultos na Corunha e Cambre, contribuindo para a educação dos seus habitantes e para o crescimento económico da zona. Nossas descobertas revelam o amplo impacto deste galego em sua área, mais complexo do que o que veio à tona até agora. Os resultados obtidos após esta investigação devolvem à história a biografia de uma de nossas grandes mulheres
Los dialectos de la rima del "Cursor Mundi" : la evidencia lingüística para la determinación de la procedencia geográfica de cuatro manuscritos
[Resumen] El objetivo principal de esta investigación es la localizacion geografica
de los dialectos que aparecen en la rima de 4 de las versiones del Curso
Mundi escritas la Inglaterra de entre 1350 y 1450.
Asimismo, se intenta llegar a alguna conclusión con respecto al origen
geografico de las versiones previas a las que se manejan y al hecho de
que estas versiones son transcripciones de versiones previas anteriores
y no copias directas del poema original.
Los manuscritos que se analizan son los siguientes: Cotton Vespasaian Aiii,
Fairfax 14, Gottingen 107,3 y Trinity R3,8.
La metodologia que se ha seguido para alcanzar los objetivos propuestos
ha sido la diseñada por el dialectólogo escocés Angus McIntosh, la llamada
"fit-technnique"
The representativeness threshold for the CETA subcorpus of the Coruña Corpus
The concept of representativeness is the main distinguishing characteristic of specialised corpora in comparison to other sets of texts. The Coruña Corpus of English Scientific Writing currently comprises four published subcorpora (astronomy, life sciences, history, and philosophy) plus three others under compilation (physics, chemistry and linguistics). In this paper we aim to assess the lexical density of the text samples in CETA, the Corpus of English Texts on Astronomy, by means of the ReCor tool, a posteriori. The study is motivated by the following question: does quantitative representativeness analysis using ReCor provide, in the form of a cross-check, further validation of previous research on the representativeness of CETA? Previous work (Crespo and Moskowich, 2010) has indicated that the CETA corpus is well designed and valid for the purposes for which it was intended. We will here suggest metrics to measure these findings. The most important contribution of this study is to offer quantitative data collection results using the ReCor tool, which allows data triangulation and consequently ensures overall data quality. Results show that data analysis with the ReCor tool supports previous findings, and thus we are able to verify that CETA is indeed representative of the language of its time and register.
