    The impact of World University Rankings on BRICS students' choices of universities (the case of the Ural Federal University)

    World rankings affect universities’ positions on the global education market. The survey (2017-2018, UrFU) of Chinese students (n = 20) and experts (n = 4) found that for students the quality of education and their parents’ / friends’ opinions were the key factors in their university choice. Experts believe, however, that the role of rankings will grow and that high ranking positions will be used by universities to attract investment and improve their status

    Anomia is present pre-symptomatically in frontotemporal dementia due to MAPT mutations

To view a copy of this licence, visit http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.Introduction: A third of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is caused by an autosomal-dominant genetic mutation in one of three genes: microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT), chromosome 9 open reading frame 72 (C9orf72) and progranulin (GRN). Prior studies of prodromal FTD have identified impaired executive function and social cognition early in the disease but few have studied naming in detail. Methods: We investigated performance on the Boston Naming Test (BNT) in the GENetic Frontotemporal dementia Initiative cohort of 499 mutation carriers and 248 mutation-negative controls divided across three genetic groups: C9orf72, MAPT and GRN. Mutation carriers were further divided into 3 groups according to their global CDR plus NACC FTLD score: 0 (asymptomatic), 0.5 (prodromal) and 1 + (fully symptomatic). Groups were compared using a bootstrapped linear regression model, adjusting for age, sex, language and education. Finally, we identified neural correlates of anomia within carriers of each genetic group using a voxel-based morphometry analysis. Results: All symptomatic groups performed worse on the BNT than controls with the MAPT symptomatic group scoring the worst. Furthermore, MAPT asymptomatic and prodromal groups performed significantly worse than controls. Correlates of anomia in MAPT mutation carriers included bilateral anterior temporal lobe regions and the anterior insula. Similar bilateral anterior temporal lobe involvement was seen in C9orf72 mutation carriers as well as more widespread left frontal atrophy. In GRN mutation carriers, neural correlates were limited to the left hemisphere, and involved frontal, temporal, insula and striatal regions. Conclusion: This study suggests the development of early anomia in MAPT mutation carriers, likely to be associated with impaired semantic knowledge.     Environmental security and sustainable development of large urban centres

    Our article focuses on the environmental security and sustainable development of large urban centres. In addition, it analyses the demographic and ecological situation in the Russian Federation in order to determine the environmental influence of the social and economic factors as well as the factors of development and growth of large urban hubs. The results demonstrate that there exists a necessity to increase the environmental security in order to foster the sustainable development in the regions and urban centres that would lead to the better satisfaction with the level of life, lower mortality, and growing economic well-being. All of these can be achieved using balanced state support and policies targeted at increasing environmental security and creation of the sustainable future for the generation to come

    The object of investigation: the wing-shaped profile with the front portion to be deformed by the preset law and with flexible rear part in the fluid stream. The purpose of the work: the improvement of the calculation methods and the investigation (on its base) of influence of the constructive parameters of the wing, the kind of its kinematic disturbance and characteristics of the stream on the modes of the system motion and the importance of such parameters interaction as the lifting and suction forces, the hydrodynamic moment, the function of the speeds break. The contribution to the development of the approximate analytical methods of solution of the hydroelasticity problems has been inserted. The common solution of the coupled system of the equations of hydrodynamics and bending oscillation of the plates has been obtained.     University 4.0 within the context of the sustainable development of higher education

    The process of development of universities from the places where medieval elites met to conduct alliances and partnerships to the modern biotechnological and digital institutions of higher education, research and business took several centuries and went through four main stages. This paper describes the role and the place of the University 4.0 within the context of the sustainable development of higher education in the 21st century. We show that University 4.0 is designed to promote the technology industry through partnerships that support research, marketing, workforce development, as well as entrepreneurship. In keeping with the cooperative nature efforts directed and driven by the policy-makers and relevant stakeholders need to be dedicated to promoting modern universities as hub for the development of intelligent, connected technologies and services that would lead to the sustainable development of higher education that would reflect the challenges of our time

    Language Androcentrism in British Textbooks in the 80s of the XXth century

    The problem of gender and gender studies permeate all areas of human life, becoming more and more relevant every day. Gender correctness is becoming an integral part of the narrative, making new demands on communication. Language is a tool for constructing, reproduction and recreation of a gender worldview. At the moment, the gender picture of the world is undergoing drastic changes, revision and reflection. In this regard, it is important to look at the history of language androcentrism in order to avoid it in modern communication. In this article, based on the material of British educational texts of the early 80s of the XX century, the linguistic methods of constructing gender are analyzed. Based on the A. Pauwel’s methodology the signs of androcentrism are revealed. The signs of anrocentrism include the following: derivatives of women's status from the male, the women’s invisibility in language, and stereotypical image of both sexes. The study found that all the above-mentioned signs of gender asymmetry are fully reflected in authentic British educational texts.     Concentrations of dinoflagellate cysts in the surface layer of bottom sediment from the White Sea

    Dinoflagellate cysts were studied in 42 samples from surface sediments of the White Sea. Total concentration of dinocysts varies from single cysts to 25000 cyst/g of dry sediments, which reflects biological productivity in White Sea waters and regional particular features of sedimentation processes. The highest concentrations are observed in silts; they are related to the regions of propagation of highly productive Barents Sea waters in the White Sea. Generally, spatial distribution of dinocyst species in the surface sediments corresponds to distribution of the major types of water masses in the White Sea. Cysts of relatively warm-water species (Operculodinium centrocarpum, Spiniferites sp.) of North Atlantic origin that dominate in the sediments indicate an intensive intrusion of Barents Sea water masses to the White Sea along with hydrological dwelling conditions in the White Sea favorable for development of these species during their vegetation period. The cold-water dinocyst assemblage (Islandinium minutum, Polykrikos sp.) is rather strictly confined to inner parts of shallow-water bays, firstly, those adjacent to the Onega and Severnaya Dvina river mouths
