The physical examination in pediatric and adolescent patients.

    Get PDF
The initial evaluation and examination of both the pediatric and adolescent patients provides the opportunity for the clinician to establish a relationship that will ensure the successful outcome of the visit. In the younger age group, cooperation of the child before performing an examination should be the focus at the first encounter. This cooperation will enable proper positioning and a systematic approach to examination and documentation of findings. Although the adolescent patients may be older and better able to understand the specifics of the examination, these patients present additional challenges for the examining practitioner

This present study gives an estimation of the time and efficiency in the transformation of pine logs into boards for the manufacturing of pallets in the industry, Haro Madera. Here, the percentage of the wood used and the percentage of sawdust were determined. This was with a yield of 34.936% in the processing of the logs, 43.29% into square posts, and 15.08% in the direct transformation of the logs into boards. In order to determine the factors that affect the production of pine lumber, the wood was classified by its length, diameter, and shape where it was possible to determine its influence in the production into boards. This, therefore, proves that the qualitative factors are influential in the elaboration of the boards to construct pallets, in terms of time. Also, it was possible to determine that for the manufacture of an American type pallet, it took 10.24 minutes, while the European type pallet took 13.9 minutes. To determine the output per machine, a sampling was used. Here, specific observations were made, dividing working time and non-working time. Wood utilization percentage was low, the production line must be improved, and the logs from different plantations should be classified according to their diameter and shape

ED-2: A cold but not so narrow stellar stream crossing the solar neighbourhood

    Get PDF
Context. ED-2 is a stellar stream identified as a compact group in integrals-of-motion space in a local sample of halo stars from the third Gaia data release. Aims. We investigate its nature and possible association with known halo substructures. Methods. We explored the current properties of ED-2 members in phase-space and also analysed the expected distribution via orbit integration. In addition, we studied the metallicity of ED-2 using APOGEE DR17 and LAMOST DR8 (and re-calibrated DR3). Results. ED-2 forms a compact group in the x − z (or R − z) plane, showing a pancake-like structure as it crosses the solar neighbourhood. Dynamically, it is most similar to the globular clusters NGC 3201 and NGC 6101 and to the stellar streams Ylgr and Phlegethon. However, its orbit is sufficiently different for none of these objects to likely be the ED-2 progenitor. We also find ED-2 to be quite metal poor: all of its stars have [Fe/H]≤ − 2.42, with a median [Fe/H] = −2.60−0.21+0.20. At this low metallicity, it is unlikely that ED-2 stems from any known globular cluster. Instead, ED-2 seems to be in a similar category as the recently discovered Phoenix and C-19 stellar streams. We find that ED-2 members are scattered across the whole sky, which is due to its current orbital phase. We predict that as this object moves to its next apocentre, it will acquire an on-sky morphology that is similar to that of cold stellar streams. Finally, because ED-2 is nearing pericentre, we predict that additional members found below the plane will have high radial velocities of close to ∼500 km s−1 in the present-day direction of the globular cluster NGC 6101.Juan de la Cierva fellowship (IJC2020-043742-I),MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033European Space Agency (ESA

Amplify Soundview: Reflecting on the Use of Digital Tools for Promoting Community Engagement & Stewardship in the Development and Care of the Soundview Park in New York City

    Get PDF
In this paper authors describe a project whose principle aim was to “amplify” the engagement and stewardship of local residents in the development and care of Soundview Park, in New York City. The project Amplify Soundview was conducted as a core studio course within Parsons Transdisciplinary Design MFA Program in Fall 2012 in collaboration with New York City’s Partnerships for Parks. The project integrated the Open Locast U platform (created by the MIT Mobile Experience Lab) into four proposals for Soundview Park, developed by Parsons students’ teams. Through the narratives of our students and project partners this paper will describe and reflect upon both analogue and digital tools for civic engagement. In particular, these narratives consider how digital tools such as Locast have the potential to engage the public in a process of asset realization and articulation within an otherwise disadvantaged urban context.

This paper describes the optimization and validation of an analytical method for the determination of 83 pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) in aqueous samples using solid-phase extraction (SPE) followed by ultra performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC-QqQ-MS/MS). First, several experiments were conducted to optimize different SPE extraction parameters such as pH, elution solvents, and Na2EDTA addition. Extraction recovery percentages were between 17 and 146%, being higher than 70% for 47 target analytes. The effect of salinity in the extraction efficiency proved to be negligible ( 90%), and the precision of the method, calculated as the relative standard deviation (RSD) of replicate extractions and analyses, was less than 20%. The optimized method was successfully applied to the analysis of real water samples in estuarine and coastal systems from SW Spain (Cadiz Bay and Huelva Estuary). 49 out of 83 target compounds were found in 75% of samples. Ibuprofen, atenolol, gemfibrozil and caffeine were the most commonly detected substances, reaching concentrations up to 195 ng L-1
