This paper offers some results from a study on the professional life of graduates in Philology in Spain. Philologists' global assessment of their career is that it provides the content for access to culture and knowledge. However, their possibilities for obtaining a job are scarce both because of the lack of job opportunities for these graduates and the ill-designed curriculum for their professional life. Finally, the negative and positive aspects in the curriculum design related to obtaining a job in Europe space are indicated

Force-matched embedded-atom method potential for niobium
Large-scale simulations of plastic deformation and phase transformations in
alloys require reliable classical interatomic potentials. We construct an
embedded-atom method potential for niobium as the first step in alloy potential
development. Optimization of the potential parameters to a well-converged set
of density-functional theory (DFT) forces, energies, and stresses produces a
reliable and transferable potential for molecular dynamics simulations. The
potential accurately describes properties related to the fitting data, and also
produces excellent results for quantities outside the fitting range. Structural
and elastic properties, defect energetics, and thermal behavior compare well
with DFT results and experimental data, e.g., DFT surface energies are
reproduced with less than 4% error, generalized stacking-fault energies differ
from DFT values by less than 15%, and the melting temperature is within 2% of
the experimental value.Comment: 17 pages, 13 figures, 7 table
Np95 interacts with de novo DNA methyltransferases, Dnmt3a and Dnmt3b, and mediates epigenetic silencing of the viral CMV promoter in embryonic stem cells
Recent studies have indicated that nuclear protein of 95 kDa (Np95) is essential for maintaining genomic methylation by recruiting DNA methyltransferase (Dnmt) 1 to hemi-methylated sites. Here, we show that Np95 interacts more strongly with regulatory domains of the de novo methyltransferases Dnmt3a and Dnmt3b. To investigate possible functions, we developed an epigenetic silencing assay using fluorescent reporters in embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Interestingly, silencing of the cytomegalovirus promoter in ESCs preceded DNA methylation and was strictly dependent on the presence of either Np95, histone H3 methyltransferase G9a or Dnmt3a and Dnmt3b. Our results indicate a regulatory role for Np95, Dnmt3a and Dnmt3b in mediating epigenetic silencing through histone modification followed by DNA methylation

Formic Acid Free Flowsheet Development To Eliminate Catalytic Hydrogen Generation In The Defense Waste Processing
The Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF) processes legacy nuclear waste generated at the Savannah River Site (SRS) during production of plutonium and tritium demanded by the Cold War. The nuclear waste is first treated via a complex sequence of controlled chemical reactions and then vitrified into a borosilicate glass form and poured into stainless steel canisters. Converting the nuclear waste into borosilicate glass canisters is a safe, effective way to reduce the volume of the waste and stabilize the radionuclides. Testing was initiated to determine whether the elimination of formic acid from the DWPF's chemical processing flowsheet would eliminate catalytic hydrogen generation. Historically, hydrogen is generated in chemical processing of alkaline High Level Waste sludge in DWPF. In current processing, sludge is combined with nitric and formic acid to neutralize the waste, reduce mercury and manganese, destroy nitrite, and modify (thin) the slurry rheology. The noble metal catalyzed formic acid decomposition produces hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Elimination of formic acid by replacement with glycolic acid has the potential to eliminate the production of catalytic hydrogen. Flowsheet testing was performed to develop the nitric-glycolic acid flowsheet as an alternative to the nitric-formic flowsheet currently being processed at the DWPF. This new flowsheet has shown that mercury can be reduced and removed by steam stripping in DWPF with no catalytic hydrogen generation. All processing objectives were also met, including greatly reducing the Slurry Mix Evaporator (SME) product yield stress as compared to the baseline nitric/formic flowsheet. Ten DWPF tests were performed with nonradioactive simulants designed to cover a broad compositional range. No hydrogen was generated in testing without formic acid
Numerical study on the flexural behaviour of slim-floor beams with hollow core slabs at elevated temperature
[EN] Slim-floor beams are a novel typology of steel beams where the steel profile is fully embedded within the concrete floor depth. While the use of this system is increasing fast in the construction practice, the available investigations on its fire performance are still scarce. This paper focuses on analysing the fire behaviour of slim floor beams combined with hollow core slabs as flooring system. Two configurations are studied, namely Integrated Floor Beam (IFB) and Shallow Floor Beam (SFB). A finite element model is developed and validated by comparison with experimental results available in the literature as well as with thermal tests carried out by the authors. Subsequently, parametric studies are conducted with the aim of providing practical design recommendations. The influence of the composite beam configuration, concrete type, longitudinal reinforcement and steel plate thickness is studied. The conclusions drawn in this paper suggest that the SFB configuration may provide a significant enhancement in terms of fire resistance compared to IFB, provided that the appropriate combination of the parameters studied is used. The authors would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Spanish "Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad" for the help provided through the Project BIA2015-67192-R and to the European Union through the FEDER funds.Albero Gabarda, V.; Espinós Capilla, A.; Serra Mercé, E.; Romero, ML.; Hospitaler Pérez, A.
