Solar energy, its conversion and utilization

The work being carried out at the University of Florida Solar Energy and Energy Conversion Laboratory in converting solar energy, our only income, into other needed and useful forms of energy is described. A treatment such as this demonstrates, in proper perspective, how solar energy can benefit mankind with its many problems of shortages and pollution. Descriptions were given of the conversion processes, equipment, and performance. The testing of materials, solar water heating, space heating, cooking and baking, solar distillation, refrigeration and air-conditioning, work with the solar furnace, conversion to mechanical power, hot air engines, solar-heated sewage digestion, conversion to electricity, and other devices will be discussed

Lyapunov 1-forms for flows

In this paper we find conditions which guarantee that a given flow $\Phi$ on a compact metric space $X$ admits a Lyapunov one-form $\omega$ lying in a prescribed \v{C}ech cohomology class $\xi\in \check H^1(X;\R)$. These conditions are formulated in terms of the restriction of $\xi$ to the chain recurrent set of $\Phi$. The result of the paper may be viewed as a generalization of a well-known theorem of C. Presidential Promises and the Uniting American Families Act: Bringing Same-Sex Immigration Rights to the United States

Binational same-sex couples in the United States all too often face a difficult reality. Due to discriminatory immigration laws, which prevent United States citizens from sponsoring their same-sex partners for permanent residence, same-sex couples must choose between deportation and separating their families. The Uniting American Families Act, however, offers a remedy to this unacceptable inequality. Yet the Act currently does not have the congressional support it needs to pass. This Note argues that President Obama, as the country’s Executive, should use his “bully pulpit” to inspire the Act’s passage. Specifically, this Note examines the manifestation and extent of Executive power in relation to immigration, the timeliness of the issue, and the recent broadening of Executive power to support a conclusion that Mr. Obama should take such action

A Mathematical Model for Defining Explosive Yield and Mixing Probabilities of Liquid Propellants

This paper describes how a mathematical model can be constructed to fit theoretical or experimental data on yield and spill of liquid propellants. It shows how these primary quantities can be separated, how probability distributions can be found for each, and how probability confidence regions and confidence limits can be established. The fundamental function of this very general mathematical model, based upon four independent parameters, and the characteristics of the resulting probability surface are discussed in detail. The mathematical model, programmed for an IBM 709 computer, is applied to some spill test data of liquid propellants for which the necessary information is available and then with a minimum number of assumptions to missile failure yield estimates
