The Grésigne State Forest (Tarn, France) has been included in the European network
Natura 2000 for its exceptional entomological richness, especially with saproxylic beetles. Among the many
species encountered, the three species listed in the annexe II of the Habitat Directive, Limoniscus violaceus,
Cerambyx cerdo and Lucanus cervus, are characteristic of different habitats (cavities at the bottom of the
trees, dying trees and decaying wood) and imply specific management rules for their conservation. First,
an "objective document" (Docob) was drawn up in appliance of the Habitat Directive. Then, a new forest
management plan (2004-2021) was established, including measures to preserve these high heritage value
species: setting up a network of old stands, increasing the dead wood volume compartment, preserving trees
with cavities. Part of these measures is fi nanced by a Natura 2000 contract, on a French state-European

Metadata towards an e-research cyberinfrastructure : The case of French PhD theses
This paper analyses metadata practices and needs in the French research community. It focuses on PhD theses whose life-cycle is totally controlled by the academic institutions. It uses information treatments dealing with setting up research policy as samples for an e-research orientation. Several case-studies illustrate the fundamental role of various repositories containing affiliations, authorities or linguistic items. ARTIST, the collective author of this paper, is introduced

" Ah, the Grésigne forest ! ” - From Jean Rabil to Natura 2000
The exceptional entomological wealth of the Grésigne forest in the Tarn département ranks it as third among
European forests in terms of beetle populations (2,483 species counted to date) and earned its status as a
Natura 2000 site under the European Habitats directive. Saproxylic beetles, including 3 species in the
Habitats directive (Limoniscus violaceus, Cerambyx cerdo and Lucanus cervus), play an essential role in wood
decomposition and are an important heritage feature. The Office national des Forêts, which manages the
forest, has gradually implemented management rules that protect the saproxylic beetles and their microhabitats,
starting with a controlled biological reserve all the way to the drafting of a Natura 2000 objectives
document. The article describes the management rules and their implementation in the field and opens up

Ionizing radiation to prevent arterial intimal hyperplasia at the edges of the stent: Induces necrosis and fibrosis
BACKGROUND: Although ionizing radiation has been proposed for the prevention of intimal hyperplasia in coronary and peripheral arteries in multicenter clinical trials, information is lacking on how irradiation affects arterial histology after stenting and especially how it affects the edges of the stent. We investigated intimal hyperplasia recasting with histological changes in arterial wall at the edges of the stent after arterial stenting followed by adequate external radiation for the prevention of intimal hyperplasia in pigs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The aorta was experimentally stented in 30 pigs who were then assigned to two groups: irradiation with 20 Gy and a control group with no irradiation. The aorta was resected for morphometric and histological studies 6 weeks after procedure. RESULTS: Intimal thickness was reduced and the intima/media ratio was significantly lower in irradiated groups than in control pigs. In the irradiated group histological examination at the edges of the stent showed thin neointimal proliferation with an intact endothelium. In all sections analyzed in the 20-Gy irradiated group the vascular media at 45 days contained necrotic areas and fibrosis with calcifications. CONCLUSIONS: After arterial injury, adequate ionizing radiation effectively reduces neointimal thickening. Irradiation-induced histological changes include previously undetected recasting with necrosis and fibrosis at the arterial edges of the stent. The parietal recasting we observed in animal arteries irradiated at high doses is unclear and a cause of concern especially after clinical spontaneous dissection was recently reported. The use of ionizing radiation for the prevention of arterial restenosis awaits confirmation with a long-term follow-up including specific experimental histological analyse
