Investigation and protection of fishery resources in the middle of Bohai Sea

    Get PDF
In May and October 2017, 12 stations were set up in the Central Bohai Sea for fishery resources investigation. The results show that there are many dominant species in this area, and the inshore fishery resources are higher than those in the open sea because of the abundant nutrients from land, the high density of zooplankton and the food of swimming animals. In order to effectively protect the fishery resources in the Central Bohai Sea, this paper puts forward some suggestions, such as strengthening the protection propaganda, scientific and reasonable fishing, and strengthening the management of marine environment

Searching for axion dark matter with MeerKAT Radio Telescope

Axions provide a natural and well-motivated dark matter candidate, with the capability to convert directly to photons in the presence of an electromagnetic field. A particularly compelling observational target is the conversion of dark matter axions into photons in the magnetospheres of highly magnetised neutron stars, which is expected to produce a narrow spectral peak centred at the frequency of the axion mass. We point the MeerKAT radio telescope towards the isolated neutron star J0806.4-4123 for 1010-hours of observation and obtain the radio spectra in the frequency range 769769-10511051 MHz. By modelling the conversion process of infalling axion dark matter (DM), we then compare these spectra to theoretical expectations for a given choice of axion parameters. Whilst finding no signal above 5σ5\sigma in the data, we provide a unique constraint on the Primakoff coupling of axion DM, gaγγ9.3×1012GeV1g_{{\rm a}\gamma\gamma}\lesssim 9.3 \times 10^{-12}\,{\rm GeV}^{-1} at the 95%95\% confidence level, in the mass range 3.183.18-4.35μ4.35\,\mueV. This result serves the strongest constraint in the axion mass range 4.204.20-4.35μ4.35\,\mueV.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, accepted by Physical Review

    Diverse Applications of Nanomedicine

    Get PDF
The design and use of materials in the nanoscale size range for addressing medical and health-related issues continues to receive increasing interest. Research in nanomedicine spans a multitude of areas, including drug delivery, vaccine development, antibacterial, diagnosis and imaging tools, wearable devices, implants, high-throughput screening platforms, etc. using biological, nonbiological, biomimetic, or hybrid materials. Many of these developments are starting to be translated into viable clinical products. Here, we provide an overview of recent developments in nanomedicine and highlight the current challenges and upcoming opportunities for the field and translation to the clinic. \ua9 2017 American Chemical Society

Elliptical-arc-fillet flexure hinges: Toward a generalized model for commonly used flexure hinges

    No full text
Flexure hinges have been used to produce frictionless and backlashless transmissions in a variety of precision mechanisms. Although there are many types of flexure hinges available, designers often chose a single type of flexure hinge (e.g., circular flexure hinges) without considering others in the design of flexure-based mechanisms. This is because the analytical equations are unique to each kind of flexure hinge. This work offers a solution to this problem in the form of a generalized flexure hinge model. We propose a new class of flexure hinges, namely, elliptical-arc-fillet flexure hinges, which brings elliptical arc, circular-arc-fillet, elliptical-fillet, elliptical, circular, circular-fillet, and right-circular flexure hinges together under one set of equations. The closed-form equations for all the elements in the compliance and precision matrices of elliptical-arc-fillet flexure hinges have been derived. The analytical results are within 10 percent error compared to the finite element results and within 8 percent error compared to the experimental results. The equations for evaluating the strain energy and stress level for elliptical-arc-fillet flexure hinges are also provided. This model can be used as a complementary model for the generalized model for conic flexure hinges
