The Effect of Interface Tension on Forced Oscillations of Elongated Microdroplet Aggregates in Magnetic Fluids

    Get PDF
Changes in the shape of microdroplet aggregates exposed to an alternating magnetic field with fre-quency from 0.01 to 1 Hz are investigated both experimentally and using a computer simulation. Micro-droplet aggregates are spherical droplets of a highly concentrated magnetic fluid with a radius from one to several tens of microns dispersed in a liquid with a low concentration of magnetic particles. For values of interfacial tension σ > 2·10– 6 N/m small oscillations in a weak alternating field could not be obtained, but periodic forced oscillations were obtained at strong elongations. Oscillations of elongated microdroplet ag-gregates are of a periodical nonsinusoidal type with higher harmonics and subharmonics in the spectrum. Modeling Oscillations of Magnetizable Microdrops

    Get PDF
Developed a system of computer simulation of oscillations of magnetizable microdrops in a wide range of changing their parameters: surface tension, viscosity, magnetic permeability, density, and radius. Computational experiments of oscillations of magnetizable drops in an alternating magnetic field and the influence of various forces of nature (inertial, viscous, surface and magnetic) on the nature of the oscillations were carried out. Adequacy of the model, used as the basis for the developed system of computer simulation was shown on the basis of computational and experimental data

Возрастной аспект при оценке острого болевого синдрома в оториноларингологии

In this study, 133 patients were divided by age into three groups. First group: from 17 to 29 years old; second group: from 30 to 49 years old; and third group: from 50 to 75 years old. Pain intensity of patients was measured by means of a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), of a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and of a Verbal Lightning Scale (LS). All three scales could be used in measurement of pain of patients of the first group whereas NRS is preferable for the second group and LS - for the third group.

Search for the Zγ decay mode of new high-mass resonances in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
This letter presents a search for narrow, high-mass resonances in the Zγ final state with the Z boson decaying into a pair of electrons or muons. The √s = 13 TeV pp collision data were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and have an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. The data are found to be in agreement with the Standard Model background expectation. Upper limits are set on the resonance production cross section times the decay branching ratio into Zγ. For spin-0 resonances produced via gluon–gluon fusion, the observed limits at 95% confidence level vary between 65.5 fb and 0.6 fb, while for spin-2 resonances produced via gluon–gluon fusion (or quark–antiquark initial states) limits vary between 77.4 (76.1) fb and 0.6 (0.5) fb, for the mass range from 220 GeV to 3400 GeV

The ATLAS trigger system for LHC Run 3 and trigger performance in 2022

The ATLAS trigger system is a crucial component of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. It is responsible for selecting events in line with the ATLAS physics programme. This paper presents an overview of the changes to the trigger and data acquisition system during the second long shutdown of the LHC, and shows the performance of the trigger system and its components in the proton-proton collisions during the 2022 commissioning period as well as its expected performance in proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions for the remainder of the third LHC data-taking period (2022–2025)

Search for non-resonant production of semi-visible jets using Run 2 data in ATLAS

    Get PDF
Semi-visible jets, with a significant contribution to the event's missing transverse momentum, can arise in strongly interacting dark sectors. This results in an event topology where one of the jets can be aligned with the direction of the missing transverse momentum. The first search for semi-visible jets produced via a t-channel mediator exchange is presented. The analysis uses proton-proton collisions with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1 and a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected with the ATLAS detector during the Run 2 of the LHC. No excess over Standard Model predictions is observed. Assuming a coupling strength of unity between the mediator, a Standard Model quark and a dark quark, mediator masses up to 2.7 TeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level. Upper limits on the coupling strength are also derived

Measurement of the tt¯ production cross-section in pp collisions at s√ = 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
The inclusive top-quark pair (tt¯) production cross-section σtt¯ is measured in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy s√ = 5.02 TeV, using 257 pb−1 of data collected in 2017 by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The tt¯ cross-section is measured in both the dilepton and single-lepton final states of the tt¯ system and then combined. The combination of the two measurements yields σtt¯=67.5±0.9(stat.)±2.3(syst.)±1.1(lumi.)±0.2(beam)pb, where the four uncertainties reflect the limited size of the data sample, experimental and theoretical systematic effects, and imperfect knowledge of both the integrated luminosity and the LHC beam energy, giving a total uncertainty of 3.9%. The result is in agreement with theoretical quantum chromodynamic calculations at next-to-next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant, including the resummation of next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic soft-gluon terms, and constrains the parton distribution functions of the proton at large Bjorken-x
