In this article, conceived from the perspective of the researcher, we start from a short introduction to the state of the art of Early Modern Military Historiography and the return to the primary sources. From this point we focus on the Archivo General Militar, Segovia, the oldest document repository of the Spanish Armies. As the oldest military archive, we make an approach to the documentation generated by the Army over the centuries and preserved in the Alcázar, to its specific document types, and to their use as instrument for the historical research. The analysis of these documentary resources is a valuable tool for research in Early Modern Spanish Military History.El presente artículo aúna dos objetivos. Por un lado, aproximarse brevemente a la nueva historiografía militar de la Edad Moderna y su vuelta a la reconsideración de fuentes primarias. Por otro lado, estudiar y analizar la documentación existente en el Archivo General Militar de Segovia, decano de los archivos históricos militares en España. El desarrollo de este segundo apartado incluye, primero, la historia, etapas de formación y organización de los fondos documentales del archivo. A continuación se considera el uso instrumental para la investigación histórica que dichos fondos permiten. Un uso múltiple dada la amplitud temática de las informaciones contenidas, que van desde lo personal (expedientes personales y matrimoniales, hojas de servicios, pasaportes, pleitos, testamentarías, etc.) a lo institucional (Montepío Militar, Justicia Militar)

Oxidative Stress Associated with Chilling Injury in Immature Fruit: Postharvest Technological and Biotechnological Solutions

Immature, vegetable-like fruits are produced by crops of great economic importance, including cucumbers, zucchini, eggplants and bell peppers, among others. Because of their high respiration rates, associated with high rates of dehydration and metabolism, and their susceptibility to chilling injury (CI), vegetable fruits are highly perishable commodities, requiring particular storage conditions to avoid postharvest losses. This review focuses on the oxidative stress that affects the postharvest quality of vegetable fruits under chilling storage. We define the physiological and biochemical factors that are associated with the oxidative stress and the development of CI symptoms in these commodities, and discuss the different physical, chemical and biotechnological approaches that have been proposed to reduce oxidative stress while enhancing the chilling tolerance of vegetable fruits

Educando a Marte. Rentabilidad de la innovación docente militar y versatilidad profesional

Este trabajo se centra en uno de los éxitos del reformismo militar, el nuevo modelo de enseñanza militar y científico-técnica de los Cuerpos Facultativos. La formación del oficial del XVIII será el punto de partida de un intento de aproximación a la rentabilidad de la nueva política educativa y de los colegios militares de ingenieros y artillería, éste último paradigma de la innovación docente militar. Y desde el universo académico de esta institución, rastreamos la rentabilidad de la educación de Marte y entre sus réditos más notables, se analiza la versatilidad profesional de oficiales que se desenvolvieron en territorios como el espionaje industrial por Europa, trabajando conjuntamente artilleros y el ingeniero Betancourt; o que transitaron de la ciencia a la nueva economía política con naturalidad, como el capitán Vicente Alcalá Galiano

Recruitment and Innovation Systems in the Formation of the Bourbon Military. Education for War

This article focused on the systems of social recruitment and military education in the xviii, which started from discriminatory access and was articulated on two procedures that coexisted to educate the Cadets. The model was unequal promoting officers with different instruction, highlighting those of the academy of engineers in Barcelona, artillery in Barcelona and Cádiz, and Segovia. In the universe of education for war, ephemeral centers with innovative teaching approaches were integrated; some focused premonitory for all officers. The official documentation is final for the analysis in key of balance, from the perspective of the myth of the Bourbon reforms. As a contribution of interest and complementary we accredit that military education entered the social debate, giving voice to a contemporary, Cadalso, military and writer who in El buen militar a la violeta... addresses the training of the officer and his social representation, with what we close the circle of knowledge about the education model for the war of the Bourbon armies.El presente artículo trata de los sistemas de captación social y de educación militar en el xviii, que partió del acceso discriminatorio y se articuló sobre dos procedimientos que coexistieron para educar a los cadetes. El modelo fue desigual promoviendo oficiales con instrucción diferente, destacando los de la academia de ingenieros de Barcelona; de artillería en Barcelona y Cádiz, y de Segovia. En el universo de la educación para la guerra, se integraron efímeros centros con innovadores planteamientos docentes; alguno focalizado premonitoriamente para todos los oficiales. La documentación oficial es definitiva para el análisis en clave de balance, desde la perspectiva del mito de las reformas militares borbónicas. Como aportación de interés y complementaria acreditamos que la educación militar entró en el debate social, dando voz a un contemporáneo, Cadalso, militar y escritor que en El buen militar a la violeta… aborda la formación del oficial y su representación social, con lo que cerramos el círculo del conocimiento sobre el modelo de educación para la guerra de los ejércitos borbónicos

El relato individual de la batalla : diarios y hojas de servicio de militares

Presentación del valor historiográfico y de las pautas metodológicas de explotación de las hojas de servicio y diarios de militares españoles. Los testimonios individuales permiten renovar la perspectiva concreta del individuo y de la guerra desde el campo de batalla, frente a la documentación más general que han fundamentado las nuevas corrientes de la historia militar.Presentation of the historiographic value and the methodological guidelines for the exploitation of the service sheets and diaries of the Spanish military.
