    Reducing service creation time leveraging on network function virtualization

    Fifth-generation (5G) networks are envisioned to simultaneously support several services with different connectivity requirements. In this respect, service creation time is a key performance indicator (KPI) for service providers when planning the migration to 5G. For example, the European 5G infrastructure public private partnership (5G-PPP) suggests to reduce this time from 90 hours to 90 minutes, in the different phases of the service creation time KPI identified by this organization. This reduction can be achieved by leveraging on 5G state-of-the-art technologies: network function virtualization, network slicing, software-defined networking, and cloud computing, among others. Although some authors and projects have already studied the service creation time KPI in 5G, there is no literature that comprehensively analyzes and presents results related to each phase of this KPI. In this article, we explore the potential of network function virtualization technologies to reduce service creation time. To this end, we investigate the various phases of the service creation time KPI by designing and implementing, a realistic as well as complex network service that leverages on network function virtualization and related technologies. For our use case, we chose a content delivery network service specifically designed to distribute video. This decision was based on an analysis where we considered several parameters, like the complexity in the phases of design, fulfillment, and service assurance. We dissected all phases of the service creation time KPI required to turn our service blueprint into a deployment by utilizing network function virtualization tools. Henceforth, we defined and conducted several experiments, which were oriented to analyzing the different phases of the service creation time KPI. After analyzing the obtained results, we can conclude that using these new tools permits a substantial reduction in the time taken by each phase of the service creation time KPI.publishe

    Reduced Plasma Nonesterified Fatty Acid Levels and the Advent of an Acute Lung Injury in Mice after Intravenous or Enteral Oleic Acid Administration

    Although exerting valuable functions in living organisms, nonesterified fatty acids (NEFAs) can be toxic to cells. Increased blood concentration of oleic acid (OLA) and other fatty acids is detected in many pathological conditions. In sepsis and leptospirosis, high plasma levels of NEFA and low albumin concentrations are correlated to the disease severity. Surprisingly, 24 h after intravenous or intragastric administration of OLA, main NEFA levels (OLA inclusive) were dose dependently decreased. However, lung injury was detected in intravenously treated mice, and highest dose killed all mice. When administered by the enteral route, OLA was not toxic in any tested conditions. Results indicate that OLA has important regulatory properties on fatty acid metabolism, possibly lowering circulating fatty acid through activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors. The significant reduction in blood NEFA levels detected after OLA enteral administration can contribute to the already known health benefits brought about by unsaturated-fatty-acid-enriched diets

    Vigor de sementes e adubação nitrogenada na produtividade e qualidade fisiológica de sementes de trigo

    A utilização de sementes de qualidade, associada Ă  adubação nitrogenada aplicada em doses e momentos adequados, pode aumentar a produtividade e o potencial fisiolĂłgico das sementes produzidas. Neste sentido, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do vigor de sementes utilizadas na semeadura associado a combinaçÔes de doses e Ă©pocas de aplicação de nitrogĂȘnio sobre a produtividade e a qualidade fisiolĂłgica de sementes de trigo. O experimento foi conduzido com a cultivar BRS Gralha-Azul, sob delineamento de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 2x7, com quatro repetiçÔes. Os tratamentos consistiram em dois nĂ­veis de vigor de sementes (alto e baixo) associados a sete combinaçÔes de doses e aplicação da adução nitrogenada (N1- sem N; N2- 40 kg ha-1 de N no perfilhamento; N3- 80 kg ha-1 de N no perfilhamento; N4- 40 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura; N5- 80 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura; N6- 40 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura e 40 kg ha-1 de N no perfilhamento; N7- 20 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura e 60 kg ha-1 de N no perfilhamento). Foram avaliados: germinação, primeira contagem da germinação, comprimento e massa seca de plĂąntulas, emergĂȘncia de plĂąntulas em areia, Ă­ndice de velocidade e emergĂȘncia, condutividade elĂ©trica, massa de mil sementes e produtividade de sementes. A adubação com 20 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura e 60 kg ha-1 de N no inĂ­cio do perfilhamento foi o mais eficiente para a produção de sementes vigorosas da cultivar BRS Gralha-Azul. Sementes com alto vigor apresentam melhor potencial fisiolĂłgico.     Aspect-based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) is a task whose objective is to classify the individual sentiment polarity of all entities, called aspects, in a sentence. The task is composed of two subtasks: Aspect Term Extraction (ATE), identify all aspect terms in a sentence; and Sentiment Orientation Extraction (SOE), given a sentence and its aspect terms, the task is to determine the sentiment polarity of each aspect term (positive, negative or neutral). This article presents we present our participation in Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis in Portuguese (ABSAPT) 2022 at IberLEF 2022.     Risk factors for infection, predictors of severe disease, and antibody response to COVID-19 in patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases in Portugal: a multicenter, nationwide study

Methods: Nationwide study of adult patients with inflammatory RMDs prospectively followed in the Rheumatic Diseases Portuguese Register-Reuma.pt-during the first 6 months of the pandemic. We compared patients with COVID-19 with those who did not develop the disease and patients with mild/moderate disease with those exhibiting severe/critical COVID-19. IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 were measured ≄3 months after infection and results were compared with matched controls. Results: 162 cases of COVID-19 were registered in a total of 6,363 appointments. Patients treated with TNF inhibitors (TNFi; OR = 0.160, 95% CI 0.099-0.260, P < 0.001) and tocilizumab (OR 0.147, 95% CI 0.053-0.408, P < 0.001) had reduced odds of infection. Further, TNFi tended to be protective of severe and critical disease. Older age, major comorbidities, and rituximab were associated with an increased risk of infection and worse prognosis. Most patients with inflammatory RMDs (86.2%) developed a robust antibody response. Seroconversion was associated with symptomatic disease (OR 13.46, 95% CI 2.21-81.85, P = 0.005) and tended to be blunted by TNFi (OR 0.17, 95% CI 0.03-1.05; P = 0.057). Conclusions: TNFi and tocilizumab reduced the risk of infection by SARS-CoV-2. Treatment with TNFi also tended to reduce rates of severe disease and seroconversion. Older age, general comorbidities and rituximab were associated with increased risk for infection and worse prognosis, in line with previous reports.     Fingerprinting outdoor air environment using microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs) – A review

    © 2016 The Authors The impact of bioaerosol emissions from urban, agricultural and industrial environments on local air quality is of growing policy concern. Yet the risk exposure from outdoor emissions is difficult to quantify in real-time as microbial concentration in air is low and varies depending on meteorological factors and land use types. While there is also a large number of sampling methods in use, there is yet no standardised protocol established. In this review, a critical insight into chemical fingerprint analysis of microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOC) is provided. The most suitable techniques for sampling and analysing MVOCs in outdoor environments are reviewed and the need for further studies on MVOCs from outdoor environments including background levels is highlighted. There is yet no rapid and portable technique that allows rapid detection and analysis of MVOCs on site. Further directions towards a portable GC–MS coupled with SPME or an electronic nose are discussed

    Background: Paracoccidioides brasiliensis causes paracoccidioidomycosis, one of the most prevalent systemic mycosis in Latin America. Thus, understanding the characteristics of the protective immune response to P. brasiliensis is of interest, as it may reveal targets for disease control. The initiation of the immune response relies on the activation of pattern recognition receptors, among which are TLRs. Both TLR2 and TLR4 have been implicated in the recognition of P. brasiliensis and regulation of the immune response. However, the role of TLR9 during the infection by this fungus remains unclear.J.F.
