    Anti aldol reactions of an L-erythrulose derivative with several α-chiral aldehydes mediated by dicyclohexylboron chloride are examined. Good yields and stereoselectivities are observed. The results are best explained when the reactions are assumed to occur via boat-like transition states with minimization of 1,3-allylic strain and avoidance of syn pentane interactions

    This article is an effort to determine the status and contribution of technology management as an integral part of the supply chain, In the present article it starts from the premise that, the technology management system is an integral part of the supply chain; To corroborate the hypothesis, a field study was carried out in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia, aimed at medium-sized service, commercial and industrial companies, in order to diagnose the management of technological processes related to identify how technological management processes related to the supply chain are carried out and Logistic processes in these organizations. One of the conclusions reached in the study is that although the majority of participating companies currently use the technology management, this is not effective, since some activities in the supply chain are outside of its scope which prevents a true control and traceability of the products and services offered by companies

    Managing drought economic effects through insurance schemes based on local water availability.

    In many arid or semi-arid Mediterranean regions, agriculture is dependent on irrigation. When hydrological drought phenomena occur, farmers suffer from water shortages, incurring important economic losses. Yet, there is not agricultural insurance available for lack of irrigation water. This work attempts to evaluate hydrological drought risk and its economic impact on crop production in order to provide the basis for the design of drought insurance for irrigated arable crops. With this objective a model that relates water availability with expected yields is developed. Crop water requirements are calculated from evapotranspiration, effective rainfall and soil water balance. FAO?s methodology and AquaCrop software have been used to establish the relationship between water allocations and crop yields. The analysis is applied to the irrigation zone ?Riegos de Bardenas?, which is located in the Ebro river basin, northeast Spain, to the main arable crops in the area. Results show the fair premiums of different hydrological drought insurance products. Whole-farm insurance or irrigation district insurance should be preferable to crop specific insurance due to the drought management strategies used by farmers

    This research work is aimed at strengthening the resources that farmers have for crops management of pests and diseases in a digital way using internet of things through the development of a prototype. It can obtain important information of variables within a strawberry crop such as Relative Humidity, temperature and pH. These data are processed and received by means of protocols in real time. These devices allow managing the information of different variables through communication among sensors. This study presents the most critical characteristics of the strawberry by using the data collection of an IoT system. In this way the initial results can demonstrate that the system yields important information for the appropriate management of strawberry crop production

    Reynosa urban area has 690,000 inhabitants (384,000 adults \u3e20 years old), 35% moved from other states. The use of cell phones is in 81%, personal computer or laptop with 29%. The prevalence of overweight is 39%, obesity 36%, and T2D 13%. The expected adult population with T2D is 49,900 individuals. The are 5 clinics prepared to attend T2D, and few with specialized personnel. The CeDiMet is a collaborative clinic involving health personnel and researchers from the Universidad Mexico Americana del Norte, Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas, Hospital General de Mexico “Dr. Eduardo Liceaga”, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and the Texas Diabetes Institute in San Antonio. The funding source comes from private companies in Reynosa. The clinical structure includes physicians, nurses, nutritionists, psychologists, and a section for telemedicine for consulting specialists from USA and Mexico City. Besides clinical attendance, the CeDiMet will conduct educational activities in offices, factories, churches, and schools for prevention of obesity complications (T2D and hypertension), early detection of diabetic foot, fatty liver, and endothelial damage. “Tree of Health in the Family” is a program to encourage youth to know and understand the metabolic problems in their families to focus on prevention. Recently, we obtained a grant from COTACyT to explore the effect of COVID-19 in a cohort of 200 students and their families. The analysis of post-traumatic stress due to confinement and antibodies concentration to detect contacts and its association with metabolic problems is an example of the research we can perform

    The caveolae‐associated coiled‐coil protein, NECC2, regulates insulin signalling in Adipocytes

    Adipocyte dysfunction in obesity is commonly associated with impaired insulin signalling in adipocytes and insulin resistance. Insulin signalling has been associated with caveolae, which are coated by large complexes of caveolin and cavin proteins, along with proteins with membrane‐binding and remodelling properties. Here, we analysed the regulation and function of a component of caveolae involved in growth factor signalling in neuroendocrine cells, neuroendocrine long coiled‐coil protein‐2 (NECC2), in adipocytes. Studies in 3T3‐L1 cells showed that NECC2 expression increased during adipogenesis. Furthermore, NECC2 co‐immunoprecipitated with caveolin‐1 (CAV1) and exhibited a distribution pattern similar to that of the components of adipocyte caveolae, CAV1, Cavin1, the insulin receptor and cortical actin. Interestingly, NECC2 overexpression enhanced insulin‐activated Akt phosphorylation, whereas NECC2 downregulation impaired insulin‐induced phosphorylation of Akt and ERK2. Finally, an up‐regulation of NECC2 in subcutaneous and omental adipose tissue was found in association with human obesity and insulin resistance. This effect was also observed in 3T3‐L1 adipocytes exposed to hyperglycaemia/hyperinsulinemia. Overall, the present study identifies NECC2 as a component of adipocyte caveolae that is regulated in response to obesity and associated metabolic complications, and supports the contribution of this protein as a molecular scaffold modulating insulin signal transduction at these membrane microdomains.La disfunción de los adipocitos en la obesidad se asocia comúnmente con la alteración de la señalización de la insulina en los adipocitos y la resistencia a la insulina. La señalización de la insulina se ha asociado con las caveolas, que están recubiertas por grandes complejos de proteínas de caveolina y cavina, junto con proteínas con propiedades de remodelación y unión a la membrana. Aquí, analizamos la regulación y la función de un componente de las caveolas involucrado en la señalización del factor de crecimiento en las células neuroendocrinas, la proteína 2 neuroendocrina de espiral larga (NECC 2 ) , en los adipocitos. Los estudios en células 3T3‐L1 mostraron que la expresión de NECC 2 aumentó durante la adipogénesis. Además, NECC 2 co‐inmunoprecipitado con caveolina‐1 ( CAV1) y mostró un patrón de distribución similar al de los componentes de las caveolas adipocitarias, CAV 1, Cavin1, el receptor de insulina y la actina cortical. Curiosamente, la sobreexpresión de NECC 2 mejoró la fosforilación de Akt activada por insulina, mientras que la regulación negativa de NECC 2 perjudicó la fosforilación de Akt y ERK 2 inducida por insulina . resistencia a la insulina. Este efecto también se observó en adipocitos 3T3‐L1 expuestos a hiperglucemia/hiperinsulinemia. En general, el presente estudio identifica NECC2 como un componente de las caveolas de los adipocitos que se regula en respuesta a la obesidad y las complicaciones metabólicas asociadas, y respalda la contribución de esta proteína como un andamio molecular que modula la transducción de señales de insulina en estos microdominios de membrana

    Overexpression of CYB5R3 and NQO1, Two NAD\u3csup\u3e+\u3c/sup\u3e-Producing Enzymes, Mimics Aspects of Caloric Restriction

    Calorie restriction (CR) is one of the most robust means to improve health and survival in model organisms. CR imposes a metabolic program that leads to increased stress resistance and delayed onset of chronic diseases, including cancer. In rodents, CR induces the upregulation of two NADH‐dehydrogenases, namely NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase 1 (Nqo1) and cytochrome b5 reductase 3 (Cyb5r3), which provide electrons for energy metabolism. It has been proposed that this upregulation may be responsible for some of the beneficial effects of CR, and defects in their activity are linked to aging and several age‐associated diseases. However, it is unclear whether changes in metabolic homeostasis solely through upregulation of these NADH‐dehydrogenases have a positive impact on health and survival. We generated a mouse that overexpresses both metabolic enzymes leading to phenotypes that resemble aspects of CR including a modest increase in lifespan, greater physical performance, a decrease in chronic inflammation, and, importantly, protection against carcinogenesis, one of the main hallmarks of CR. Furthermore, these animals showed an enhancement of metabolic flexibility and a significant upregulation of the NAD+/sirtuin pathway. The results highlight the importance of these NAD+ producers for the promotion of health and extended lifespan

    Commissioning and performance of the CMS silicon strip tracker with cosmic ray muons

Cosmic ray muons were detected in the muon chambers and used to trigger the readout of all CMS sub-detectors. About 15 million events with a muon in the tracker were collected. The efficiency of hit and track reconstruction were measured to be higher than 99% and consistent with expectations from Monte Carlo simulation.     Performance of the CMS Level-1 trigger during commissioning with cosmic ray muons and LHC beams

This paper describes the trigger components used, the algorithms that were executed, and the trigger synchronisation. Using data from extended cosmic ray runs, the muon, electron/photon, and jet triggers have been validated, and their performance evaluated.
