Algunas lecciones sobre la mujer y el hombre en el Magisterio

20 p.Este escrito es un análisis de la educación del Magisterio alrededor de la mujer. Se basa en tres premisas fundamentales: el reconocimiento a los pontífices que han puesto a la mujer en las agendas de discusión de sus pontificados, la situación misma de las mujeres y el aporte de los llamamientos realizados en cada época. Se expone, además, cómo este Magisterio ha reconocido retrocesos y avances de la situación femenina y se recoge, en especial, la contribución de la Carta Apostólica Mulieris Dignitatem, a través de una observación profunda, que marca varios desafíos para lograr la dignificación de la mujer y del hombre, su reciprocidad y su mutuo reconocimiento de la dignidad que proviene de la Creación misma. Finalmente se describe la cátedra sobre Mujer, cultura y sociedad, electiva institucional desarrollada como estrategia para hacer viva esta Carta Apostólica

Identification and characterization of "Plasmodium falciparum" and "Mycobacterium ulcerans" antigens as potential vaccine components and targets for serological test and molecular typing methods

The increase of Plasmodium falciparum’s drug resistance and the resurgence of Mycobacterium ulcerans disease through environmental changes aggravate health problems caused by these pathogens. Buruli ulcer, caused by M. ulcerans, is after tuberculosis and leprosy the third most common mycobacterial human infection and the most poorly understood of these three diseases. It is characterized by chronic, necrotizing ulceration of subcutaneous tissues and the overlying skin. M. ulcerans is a slow-growing mycobacterium which multiplies extracellularly in Buruli ulcer lesions. There is a broad antigenic overlap between mycobacterial species, which complicates the analysis of adaptive immune responses and hampers the development of specific sero-diagnostic tests for M. ulcerans in areas where BCG vaccination has been implemented and tuberculosis is endemic. In an effort to identify immunodominant antigens of M. ulcerans, we have generated panels of monoclonal antibodies from mice immunized with this pathogen. Cross-reactivity studies with other mycobacterial species performed by Western blot and immunofluorescence assays have identified immunodominant epitopes with a limited cross-species distribution (18kDa and the 34-37kDa proteins). In contrast, the majority of antigens were spread widely amongst different mycobacterial species. One set of non-crossreactive monoclonal antibodies recognized an 18kDa protein of M. ulcerans that is associated with the cell-wall fraction, and expressed in Buruli ulcer lesions. The target protein was identified by massspectroscopy as the M. ulcerans orthologue of the M. leprae 18kDa small heat shock protein, which has no orthologues in the genomes of M. bovis and M. tuberculosis. Human anti-18kDa small heat shock protein antibodies were found in the serum of all Buruli ulcer patients tested, but not in sera from Europeans volunteers and only rarely in sera from Africans living in Buruli ulcer non-endemic regions. Reactivity of sera from a large proportion of people living in a Buruli ulcer endemic area and in contact with Buruli ulcer patients indicated that an 18kDa small heat shock protein-based serological test is suitable to detect exposure to M. ulcerans. Since M. ulcerans shows only very limited genetic diversity, standard multi-locus sequence typing of housekeeping genes is not a suitable tool for molecular epidemiological analysis of Buruli ulcer. Among the monoclonal antibodies exhibiting broad inter-species cross-reactivity, one group recognized the M. ulcerans orthologue of mycobacterial laminin-binding protein. DNA sequence analysis demonstrated that the corresponding hupB gene from M. ulcerans isolates of diverse geographical origin exhibited considerable diversity based both on insertional/deletional polymorphism and on single base exchanges. Dominance of non-conservative exchanges was indicative of a diversifying selection pressure. Sequences analysis of a set of such variable genes may develop into a new tool for genetic fingerprinting of isolates. There is great need to identify new malaria vaccine and drug targets. Monoclonal antibodies were used to characterize a novel conserved protein of P. falciparum designated D13. Western blot analysis demonstrated that D13 is stage-specifically expressed during schizogony in asexual blood stages of the parasite. It has a functionally essential role in parasite biology, since anti-D13 monoclonal antibodies have parasite growth inhibitory activity. The D13 protein may represent a suitable target for a malaria vaccine design. Immunofluorescence analysis with monoclonal antibodies specific for glyceraldehydes-3- phosphate dehydrogenase (pfGAPDH) and pfAldolase showed that pfGAPDH and pfAldolase colocalise in early stages of both liver and asexual blood stage parasite development. However, during schizogony, unlike pfAldolase, pfGAPDH was enriched in the apical region of the parasites. In addition, Western blot analyses demonstrate that pfGAPDH is in both the membrane-containing pellet and supernatant fractions. These results have provided evidence that pfGAPDH exerts non-glycolytic function(s) in P. falciparum; including possibly a role in vesicular transport and biogenesis of apical organelles. This data together with the limited amino acid sequence identity with human GAPDH suggest that the pfGAPDH could be a promising safe target for drug treatment

Education in Confessional Schools According to the Speech of his Students

This article comes from the research project “Representations of formal and private education in students of Catholic schools in the metropolitan area.” The research analyzed a series of oral speeches, about education in the Catholic school, in students who have been educated for over 9 years in these institutions. The analysis identified representations that young people had built with their learning environment and the values that revolve around his education in schools guided by principles of a religion. A qualitative method was used with ethnographic-semiotic approach that guided the collection of oral statements, through semi-structured interviews and focus groups, analyzed from theories and methods of the pedagogy and semiotics. Thus, an approach was made to the constituent elements (values) of educational practices one of the many training projects and certainly the oldest counts in Latin America in general. It was possible to find answers about the valuation of these phenomena, showing a dichotomy between educating “a good person” to the confessional way and educating a citizen. With these results, it aims to promote reflection about the educational phenomenon from the perspective of the learner, while the theoretical and practical relationship between pedagogy and semiotics is strengthened

Song-lyrics based lessons with controversial issues to foster productive language skills interaction in the EFL classroom.

El presente proyecto tiene como objetivo analizar el impacto de la implementación de lecciones basadas en canciones y temas controversiales para fomentar la interacción de habilidades lingüísticas relacionadas a la producción en estudiantes de inglés como lengua extranjera, particularmente en estudiantes del grado 901 en el Colegio José Max León. Las observaciones evidenciaron que, aunque los estudiantes en general tienen un buen manejo de las habilidades comunicativas en inglés; siempre se espera que la interacción en el aula sea dirigida por los maestros y está demasiado contaminada por la planificación y el manejo del aula, lo que lleva a los estudiantes a ser participantes de segunda mano en su propio proceso de aprendizaje. Teniendo en cuenta la motivación de los estudiantes al escuchar canciones en clase, la implementación de lecciones basadas en música y el enfoque de temas controvertidos tenían el propósito de fomentar las habilidades de interacción de los estudiantes, mediante la recopilación de datos a través de diarios, grabaciones de audio y notas de campo. As the participant’s teacher, class observations evidenced that, although students have in general good management of English communicative skills, interaction in the classroom is always expected to be directed by the teachers and is particularly contaminated by classroom planning and management, leading students to be second hand participants in their own learning process. Having in mind students’ motivation in class when listening to songs, the implementation of song-lyrics based lessons and the approach to controversial issues, had as purpose to foster students’ productive language skills interaction, by collecting data through diaries, audio recordings and field notes. It is expected with the present research that students identify, understand and put into action interactional skills required for every moment of their learning process, not only while interacting in English, but during their academic life as well

El obtener una imagen segmentada correctamente sigue siendo un asunto sin resolverse. Por lo general los resultados obtenidos por un computador al segmentar una imagen contienen sobre-segmentaciones, sub-segmentaciones y bordes mal definidos. En gran parte, estos inconvenientes recaen sobre el criterio de similitud utilizado por los algoritmos de segmentación. Illegal gold mining in the indigenous reservation of the Alto Andágueda

El resguardo indígena embera katío del río Alto Andágueda está siendo afectado por uno de los problemas nacionales más importantes, denominado minería ilegal, lo cual altera los componentes sociales, culturales, económicos y ambientales de los nativos del lugar y vulnera sus derechos fundamentales. Esto trae como consecuencia la presencia de delitos conexos como extorsión, explotación infantil y violación, entre otros, además de una nefasta destrucción del ambiente, por lo que amerita una revisión de responsabilidades y participación de las entidades comprendidas en las ramas del poder público colombiano para atender la problemática en este resguardo indígena.The Embera Katío indigenous reservation of the Alto Andágueda river is being affected by one of the most important national problems called illegal mining, which alters the social, cultural, economic, and environmental aspects of the native population and violates their fundamental rights. Consequently, there is a strong presence of related crimes such as extortion, child exploitation, and rape, among others, in addition to the disastrous destruction of the environment. This warrants a review of the responsibilities and participation of the Colombian public entities in order to address the problem in this indigenous reservation

Mercado Integrado Latinoamericano (MILA): ¿Objetivos no cumplidos?

El presente artículo es el resultado del estudio del proceso de integración de los mercados de valores latinoamericanos y sus objetivos -- El propósito es determinar si se ha logrado impulsar el desarrollo de los mercados de valores de los países participantes, de la misma forma en que se ha podido observar en integraciones en otras regiones -- Para este fin se hizo un recuento de los aspectos generales de los orígenes de MILA, desde su nacimiento hasta la actualidad, y se incluyó la descripción de los cuatro países participantes con datos económicos y de mercado -- También se identificaron aquellos actores no gubernamentales que participaron en el proceso de negociación dentro de MILA, con el fin de tener una visión general del proceso de negociación -- MILA es la primera integración de bolsas que no fue antecedida por una fusión, sino por un acoplamiento de sistemas, debido a lo cual se torna importante comprender el manejo jurídico y tributario de cada país, ya que representa uno de los principales retos para el desarrollo del mercado común -- En último lugar se estudió la evolución de la cifras de transacciones del Mercado Integrado Latinoamericano y se compararon con las metas planteadas desde un inicio, para poder determinar qué tan valedero ha sido el esfuerzo de los mercados integrados y cuál ha sido su ganancia en estos año
